The Pokemon I Choose You Movie, I'm so hyped

It's a movie about the original adventures of Ash and Pikachu but it's vastly different from the original. It pisses off a lot of people (Because Misty and Brock aren't there), but I personally like it. It gives us something new while doing a throwback of the first anime season. New characters, an altered adventure. My only concern is what is this exactly? Is it an AU? Or is this just a one off thing they are doing for the 20th anniversity that isn't canon? Most movies aren't canon but it would be interesting if this movie is ever relevant to Pokemon Sun and Moon. Like Marshadow being in the anime, knowing Ash, but Ash not knowing it or vise versa...And they explain why the movie is the way it is.

MARSHADOW! MY FAVORITE POKEMON OF ALL TIME! MARSHADOW IS COMING! I WAS EXPECTING IT TO SHOW UP SOON BUT NOT LIKE THIS. Nice way to surprise us Gamefreak.
