It's right in the title. While not totally scary or sinister-sounding, every song on this album is based on horror movie monsters and classic monsters from literature. It's the perfect album to listen to during Halloween.
Yes, there are many monsters. And very good songs as well. My favorite tracks are Dracula, Damien, and Ghost of Freedom.

Abigail - King Diamond
King Diamond is the Stephen King of music. He knows how to write a good horror rock opera, and Abigail is his greatest. It's a concept album about a young couple haunted by the ghost of a child named Abigail.
Oh yes. Pretty much the entire discography of King Diamond can be on this list. His music isn't very heavy or extreme, but it is creepy.

Black One - Sunn O)))
Every track on this album sounds like something out of a horror flick, with everything sounding distorted and atmospheric. Plus, you can really feel the pain in the vocalist's voice on track 3.

Vexovoid - Portal
The third track, Curtain (along with its purely evil music video based on Edgar Allan Poe's The Conqueror Worm), is enough to frighten the pants off anyone. Enough said.

Filosofem - Burzum
This album is a mixture of dark trance and black metal. And just like Under a Funeral Moon, it has lo-fi production, which makes it sound creepier (but what makes the album even creepier is that it was recorded by a murderer. Look up the history of Varg Vikernes and you'll see what I mean).

Hell Awaits - Slayer
The album cover and the songs all look and sound like something straight out of hell. Plus, the opening track features a reversed recording of a demonic-sounding voice repeating "Join us," ending with "Welcome back."

Under a Funeral Moon - Darkthrone
The cover art and sinister-sounding songs are perfect for every horror fan. Plus, this is one of those classic black metal records with lo-fi production, which makes it sound a lot creepier.

There is much debate over whether this or Possessed's Seven Churches was the first death metal album. I personally think Seven Churches was the first. But besides that, certain songs on this album were inspired by horror movies, which would make it perfect for any fan of horror.
