Top 10 Bands Who Had Their Reputations Ruined by a Disgraced Member

Over the past few decades, we've seen hundreds of bands in the spotlight. However, there are also quite a few whose reputations went downhill after a member of the band (usually the singer) did something bad, whether it was allegations of grooming or they just went completely off the deep end. This happened regardless of whether their later music divided fans or not.

Can you separate the art from the artist, or are the bad things they did too much for you to handle to continue listening to any of these bands?

The Top Ten
  1. Lostprophets (Ian Watkins)

This one needs little to no explaining, the stuff frontman Ian Watkins did is absolutely horrific, and I feel very sorry for the rest of his bandmates. Search up his crimes at your own risk, as they are beyond disturbing.

After Ian was arrested, the rest of the band formed a new one called No Devotion with Thursday singer Geoff Rickly. Also, Ian was recently stabbed to death by two inmates who were in the same prison he was in, so he can burn in hell.

  2. Blood on the Dance Floor (Dahvie Vanity)

I think that they've already had notoriously bad music, then it came to light that Dahvie Vanity happens to be a monster as well, as he's been accused of sexual assault and child sex abuse by several women (most of whom underage).

You know how bad of a person Dahvie is when even Chris Hansen had to get involved with his crimes.

  3. As I Lay Dying (Tim Lambesis)

Tim Lambesis has got to be one of the biggest douchebags in the rock and metal world, as he's done lots of horrible things, with the most notorious incident being him hiring a hitman to kill his wife for him, which would eventually get him arrested.

And not too long ago, all of the AILD members outside of Lambesis ended up leaving the band, and probably should have formed a completely different band with a new singer. He's a lot worse than Ronnie Radke for sure, at least Ronnie never tried killing anyone.

Those earlier lifetime memories from the songs though.

  4. Arcade Fire (Win Butler)

This one is very heartbreaking, as they created some of the best and most acclaimed indie rock albums of the 2000s and early 2010s and were almost unanimously loved by music critics and even the general public. Later on, though, many fans and critics were divided on 2017's Everything Now.

In 2022, however, frontman Win Butler was accused of sexual misconduct by several women, who alleged that he sent explicit messages to them. This put a massive stain on their reputation. As a result, singer Leslie Feist ended up dropping out of their 2022 tour not long after the allegations came out.

  5. Crystal Castles (Ethan Kath)

Despite being one of the most acclaimed electronic acts of the 2000s, their reputations took a nosedive after former singer Alice Glass accused former bandmate Ethan Kath of sexual, mental, and physical abuse on her during her time in the band, and he's also faced accusations of doing the same to other underage individuals.

That would mark the end of the group, and Kath would end up suing Glass, but the lawsuit was later dismissed and it's easy to see why honestly.

  6. Brand New (Jesse Lacey)

They went from being one of the most respected and least hated bands in the pop punk/emo scene, as they were much more experimental than the likes of other bands like Blink-182 and Good Charlotte, to one of the most controversial after frontman Jesse Lacey was accused of sexual misconduct and grooming two underage girls back in 2017. This caused the band to cancel the rest of their tour at the time.

They recently reunited, but Lacey ended up facing a new set of allegations not long after the band announced their 2025 tour. Now, several people refuse to listen to Brand New's music ever again after the allegations first came to light.

  7. Marilyn Manson (Marilyn Manson)

They already had pretty controversial imagery, including being linked to the Columbine massacre. Things became even more controversial when Brian Warner (better known as Marilyn Manson) was accused of domestic violence and sexual assault by many women, most notably Evan Rachel Wood.

I mean, this is one example where I can say the rest are technically guilty by association because of the name.

  8. The Mamas & the Papas (John Phillips)

Eight years after his death in 2001, John Phillips, the former leader of The Mamas & The Papas, was accused by his daughter Mackenzie of sexually abusing her for about a decade. She also claimed he injected her with drugs such as heroin and cocaine.

  9. The Sex Pistols (Sid Vicious)

After releasing their only album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols (1977), the Sex Pistols made the bone-headed decision to fire their bassist Glen Matlock and hire Sid Vicious to replace him. However, this decision caused the downfall of the group since Sid was a drug addict who couldn't even play bass or write anything that sounded like a melody. Glen, for his part, was a talented songwriter who contributed to the Pistols' greatest songs. Eventually, the band broke up in 1978 and Sid Vicious died of a drug overdose a year later. He may be a punk icon, but he was a terrible musician.

  10. The Neighbourhood (Brandon Fried)

They're one of the most popular bands during the streaming era, largely due to TikTok. However, drummer Brandon Fried was accused by The Marias front woman Maria Zardoya of sexual assault, which would result in him getting fired from the band around the time they went on hiatus in 2022.

They reunited this year, but they allowed Brandon to rejoin the band, which sparked outrage among many fans and said they should have gotten a new drummer instead.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Pierce the Veil (Mike Fuentes)

He deleted all his social media then left the band AFTER the allegations went out so that implies he knows he got caught.

  13. ?

    Goon Moon (Twiggy Ramirez)

  14. The Contenders
  15. Staind (Aaron Lewis)

Frontman Aaron Lewis is a notorious right winger, as he's been accused of spreading anti vax stuff and misinformation about COVID-19.

  16. Maroon 5 (Adam Levine)

Maroon 5 (aka The Adam Levine Experience) are the poster boys for the term "sellout," especially frontman Adam Levine, who we all know has a big ego and will do anything to stay relevant.

Levine's cheating scandal in 2022 had a pretty negative impact on his and Maroon 5's reputation. Also, their latest album tanked on the charts and is their first since the Kara's Flowers days to not have a hit. It seems like their strategy of collaborating with big-name artists to get a hit doesn't work anymore.

  17. Guns N' Roses (Axl Rose)

It's not hard to see why Axl Rose is one of the most controversial people in rock, as he was notorious for showing up late to concerts and having meltdowns. He was also sued by former model Sheila Kennedy for sexual assault and battery in 2023.

  18. Kasabian (Tom Meighan)

They were one of the most popular bands in the UK in the mid to late 2000s, scoring several hits. However, frontman Tom Meighan was fired from the band in 2020 after he was accused of assaulting his fiancée (now wife), and guitarist Sergio Pizzorno stepped in as vocalist shortly after.

  19. Falling in Reverse (Ronnie Radke)

The lead singer of Falling in Reverse is infamous for his online meltdowns and feuds with other musicians and celebrities. He even posted a reaction video on FiR's YouTube channel in response to Anthony Fantano criticizing him, which shows how whiny and douchey he is.

  20. Thirty Seconds to Mars (Jared Leto)

They were one of the most popular alt-rock bands in the mid to late 2000s, having quite a few hits such as "The Kill" and "Closer to the Edge", though their later albums divided many fans, especially their last two, both of which had a poor reception.

It's also been known for a long time that front man Jared Leto is a creep, and in June of 2025, he was accused of sexual misconduct by nine different women, some of which were underage. He has also been accused of running a cult as well with that notorious "Mars Island" thing.

  21. Disturbed (David Draiman)

Disturbed is one of those early-2000s bands that managed to find mainstream success beyond the nu metal era. However, their reputation has dipped in the past few years due to lead singer David Draiman being a notorious Zionist. Most notably, he posted a photo of himself signing his name on an IDF bomb on his Instagram, which definitely says a lot about his views.

  22. Noir Desir (Bertrand Cantat)

Noir Désir are one of the most popular and influential French rock bands of all time. However, their popularity took a nosedive in 2003 when their frontman Bertrand Cantat was found guilty of murdering French actress Marie Trintignant, whom he was dating at the time. He was then sentenced to 8 years in prison but was released early in 2007 for good conduct. Since then, Noir Désir separated in 2010, and his ex-girlfriend Krisztina Rady, who was the mother of his kids, committed suicide the same year, likely due to abuse.

After he was released, Bertrand Cantat started a new band and released a solo album, but every public appearance he makes is met with huge controversy due to his horrible crime. As a result, more and more radio stations stopped airing Noir Désir's music. I feel really bad for the other Noir Désir members because they were a great band who deserved their success, but hey, what can you do when there's a convicted murderer in your band?

  23. Red Hot Chili Peppers (Anthony Kiedis)

Anthony Kiedis is a generally well respected frontman. However, he is a notorious womanizer and has admitted to having had sexual encounters with minors, as detailed in his 2004 autobiography, Scar Tissue.

There's even a song from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 1985 sophomore album called "Catholic School Girls Rule," in which he brags about having underage sex with a 14 year old girl despite being in his early 20s. While this controversy tends to be swept under the rug by many fans, it sure would have him cancelled if it were revealed today.

While Anthony Kiedis has aged, his girlfriends haven't.

  24. Gnarls Barkley (CeeLo Green)

Known for their hit "Crazy," one half of the duo, CeeLo Green, was accused of sexual assault by a woman he met in Los Angeles. He also made several tweets about r*pe.

This one also counts for the Atlanta rap crew Goodie Mob.

  25. Trapt (Chris Taylor Brown)

During the pandemic, the band known for their hit "Headstrong" made headlines after singer Chris Taylor Brown, who is extremely far right, had a meltdown on Twitter and ended up feuding with several people. This caused the band's Twitter account to be suspended. He also defended underage student-teacher relationships and statutory r*pe.

  26. Mindless Self Indulgence (Jimmy Urine)

Jimmy Urine is another one of the most notorious pedophiles in the music industry, as he was accused of sexual battery of a minor as well as intercourse and grooming a 15 year old girl, and even kept her hostage. This would result in him getting sued.

  27. The Smiths (Morrissey)

Years after they split in 1987, Morrissey later gained a reputation of being one of the biggest douchebags in the music industry, as he's been accused of racism and misogyny as well as supporting many right wing movements such as Brexit.

  28. Oasis (Liam Gallagher)

Liam can be a bit of a sarcastic prick, but in comparison to Sid Vicious or Varg Vikernes, he's pretty tame, I would say. He might be a bit blunt and rough around the edges, but that's probably a mix of his Irish heritage and sardonic British humor. I find him to be quite entertaining, but I don't agree with all of his takes and stances on things. I consider this item and Oasis' inclusion to be a gigantic nothingburger.

  29. Hole (Courtney Love)

Over the years, former frontwoman Courtney Love has become one of the most controversial women in the music industry. Her marriage to Kurt Cobain was quite controversial, as were her comments on other female musicians.
