Top 10 Most Overrated Singers

The Top Ten
1 Beyoncé Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, is an American singer and actress, who started out in the popular pop/r&b girl group Destiny's Child. They had multiple top 5 hits such as "No, No, No", "Say My Name", "Bills, Bills, Bills", "Survivor", "Independent Women", "Bootylicious", and "Jumpin', Jumpin" from 1999 to 2004. After they broke up in 2006, Beyonce pursued her solo career, creating smash hits such... read more

She is just so bad at singing. I'm so sick of her voice. Her voice lacks so much talent, and she is terrible at vocals. And most of her songs are not made by her but produced by other artists. She has no talent, and other artists make songs for her. The stupidest artist ever. So overrated.

Can you even really call Beyonce an artist when she does nothing in the production of her own music? She just provides vocals for tracks that a team of 40 writers and producers pieced together in the most basic way possible to use her name to make money. Has this supposed "queen" ever released a noteworthy track that isn't a novelty song? All of her songs are remembered for some cheap novelty. "Irreplaceable"? It's only known as the "To the left" song. "Formation"? That song would never have been big without the Super Bowl performance and music video, which have nothing to do with the lyrical content of the song. "Crazy in Love"? While it is a great song and easily her best, I challenge you to find someone in a club who knows more words than just the chorus when this song plays. "Halo"? The same thing as "Crazy in Love". Does anyone even still listen to "Halo"? "Single Ladies"? The song is only famous for a silly dance move, and you'd be naive to think otherwise.

So again, can you really call her an artist? Her hits are generic top 40 tracks that she doesn't even write or produce. Yes, she has a credit, but with a team of 40 people, do you really think she did all the work? All her hit singles are just novelty songs. When people look back on the mid-2000s and 2010s, the Beyonce fandom will seem very dated. She's not a bad singer, unlike some others on this list, but her talent is wasted.

2 Michael Jackson Michael Jackson (Michael Joseph Jackson; August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, dancer, and songwriter. He passed away from cardiac arrest caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose on June 25, 2009. He donated (at least) a remarkable 500,000,000 dollars to charity. Michael is also known as The King of Pop (a title given to him by Elizabeth Taylor) or under the initials MJ... read more

His songs are good, but his singing and dancing are nothing special. I've never understood the hype around him. He didn't invent the moonwalk. Cab Calloway did in the 1930s. I wish more people were aware of this. While he was a good entertainer, he wasn't the phenomenon everyone claims he was. I prefer Prince because he was a skilled musician, wrote all his songs, and had amazing stage presence. Michael merely danced around the stage, moonwalking, yelping, and grabbing his crotch. While he was talented in creating iconic songs like Thriller and Billie Jean, in terms of dancing and singing, he's extremely overrated.

Don't get me wrong, I love Michael Jackson. But I hate how he turned into the demigod of music after his death. It really gets annoying when the media and other MJ fans claim he is the pinnacle of musical talent when there are other equally talented and even more talented artists out there. He is certainly innovative, but he is overrated for all the wrong reasons. The only reason he is under JB on this list is that, for some inexplicable reason, most people on the internet want to bully this kid just because others are doing it. People claim they hate him because he is a "douchebag" for making some mistakes, but ganging up on him and insulting him even before his "bad boy" transformation is hardly a fair description of that term.

3 Mariah Carey Mariah Carey, born March 27, 1970, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She is one of the biggest best-selling women in the music industry, with 18 number 1 records to her name. She is regarded as a sex symbol through her songs and music videos, and she is "well known" for her over-the-top sexy poses and for having breast implants. She is also known to be a diva, and she is well known for... read more

Look, I'm not denying her talent. She is talented. However, she's not as great as people make her out to be. Some might even say that people like her more for her looks than her singing talent. In my opinion, she's overrated.

She should be number one on the list of most overrated singers worldwide. Her songs are just so boring, and she can't even perform them live. What a shame!

To be considered among the greatest singers, one must consistently deliver astonishing vocal performances live. She hasn't. While her belts are impressive and her whistle is unique, it feels gimmicky and overused. Her breath control is poor, and her vocal runs sound amateurish, as does her overall live singing. She often sounds hesitant and unrefined.

4 Taylor Swift Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter.

She was born on December 13, 1989 in Reading, Pennsylvania. She is best known for writing personal songs and for having won 11 Grammys. She became interested in country music when she was around 9 years old, and after watching a documentary about Faith Hill, Swift felt that she should go to Nashville to begin a country music career. Oh my gosh! I am so sick of her. Why are all the girls addicted to her? Her voice just sounds terrible, and her songs are just so overrated. She has terrible rhythm that she makes addictive so people listen to her. There are way better artists than her. I don't get why people listen to her. Her lyrics are terrible, talking about ex-boyfriends and stuff. Just quit singing. No one likes you, Taylor Swift.

How is she not No. 1?

How. How. HOW.

Her songs are all about her ex-boyfriend from high school. Bad Blood was written by a 14-year-old girl who got over a two-week relationship. Shake it Off is just bad. Her lyrics aren't good. She's just trying to get the song stuck in your head with rhythm rather than rhyme. And finally, her fans are cultists who shame you for not liking her. Hah. Overall, not the best singer.

Ugh, even her name disgusts me. My best friend is obsessively compulsive for Taylor Swift, and she never stops! It makes me want to rip out my eardrums when I hear her sing. I tried to give her a chance, but I couldn't. My sister used to like her when she went through an awkward stage, but now she strongly dislikes her, as do I. When my friend talks about her, I bite my lip to not say anything. I'm sorry if you like her and are reading this, but it's just my opinion. She's way overrated if you ask me. Too many songs about boys! If all of her songs were based on a different boy, she has had way too many boyfriends. But, I strongly dislike her.

5 Drake Aubrey Drake Graham, known professionally as Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, born on October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Canada. He started his career on Canadian reality show "Degrassi: The Next Generation".

His older content, like Take Care, was much better than his mediocre albums like Views and Scorpion. He raps well, but he wasted his talent with boring, autotuned top 40 hits. However, he is one of my favorite rappers.

Do you like elevator music with vocals that span less than a full octave? Then, this is your man!

If I'm being honest right now, I have no idea why he's as overrated as he is. He seems kind of rude and, in my opinion, has a very generic, autotuned voice.

6 Madonna Madonna Louise Ciccone, known professionally as Madonna, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She influenced a lot of singers such as: Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears. She is known as Queen of Pop and at modern pop culture specifically in 2012 "Madge" or MDNA. She has 14 studio albums (Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer,... read more

Although her music is catchy, she isn't really that strong of a singer. Not strong enough to have achieved the level of success she enjoys. Her James Bond theme song has to be the second worst, only surpassed by Alicia Keys' and Jack White's "Another Way to Die." Alicia Keys should be on this list.

By the way, people who voted down Mariah Carey are likely just envious that they can't sing like her. Lady Gaga's vocals are often synthesized, but if you listen to her single "You and I," you'll realize how good her natural vocals are. Others who shouldn't be on this list include Kylie Minogue (only her songs from the 80s and early 90s are annoying. After that, she was outstanding), Michael Jackson (while he might not be the best singer, he isn't overrated when considering his performance skills), and Adele (one of the most significant vocal talents of all time. And don't mock her for her weight. I'd wager that some people rating on this site couldn't walk a block without collapsing. I hope they find a parking spot right next to the McDonald's entrance).

7 Jackie Evancho Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" Evancho is an American classical crossover singer who gained wide recognition at an early age. Since 2009, she has issued an EP and eight albums, including a platinum and gold album, and three Billboard 200 top 10 debuts. Evancho's latest album 'The Debut', was her eighth consecutive release to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Albums chart... read more

There comes a time when we must evolve into new sets of music and explore more diverse genres. Yes, she is indeed a good singer, but if you played a clip of her singing without any reference to who she is, many would probably say she's just some random opera singer.

Yes, she was impressive for her age, but there are young singers out there who can and will surpass her voice in some ways. One day she'll grow up, and then what? She'll be just "another classical singer."

Regarding her musical talent, she excels in singing other people's songs. However, her writing still needs improvement. Of course, trying out an instrument wouldn't hurt. I'd be amazed if she were a master at the pipe organ, French horn, or even the bagpipes, which are among the three hardest instruments to play.

Overrated? Yes. Does she have the potential to move beyond that? Absolutely.

Although I don't agree with Mr. SelfDestruct, I do think Evancho is slightly overrated. For those of you who haven't disliked this already and have stuck around, I just have to say it: I don't exactly understand what the hubbub is about. Take away the circumstance and age, and you're left with a voice. While it's a very pretty voice, that's all it is. If we loved her only for her voice, then shouldn't we be praising Pavarotti just as much? I don't dislike her, but I do feel that her age gives her a "boost" in perceived talent.

8 Selena Gomez Selena Marie Gomez is an American actress and singer. She is best known for songs like "Come & Get It", "Good For You", "Same Old Love", and "It Ain't Me". Selena Gomez's voice is mezzo-soprano but she usually sings in alto. She is best known for her role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place.

This person is also super overrated. All her songs are terrible, and I don't get why people are throwing her money while she's performing on stage. Her fans are just too crazy about her, and her songs are very bad and stupid.

Alright. I am a fan of Selena, but I'll admit that she is somewhat overrated. I think her singing is decent (and even good at times), but I'll agree that she has performances where she sounds awful. Her songs aren't bad. They're great when I want to listen to something catchy, lighthearted, and fun. I think she is a good dancer and actress, and she is pretty. She has nice music, and she's not an awful singer, but she is kind of overrated.

In what world is Justin Bieber overrated? Yeah, he's popular, but this is about overrated singers. 95% of his "fame" is from hate. Selena Gomez, on the other hand, is treated like a goddess. Personally, I find her music somewhat generic, and her voice is covered in autotune. People say she's good looking, but I honestly think she's average at best. However, I will give her props for her personality because she does seem nice.

9 Rihanna Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian-American pop singer. Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, she first entered the music industry by recording demo tapes under the direction of record producer Evan Rogers in 2003. She ultimately signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings after auditioning for its then-president, hip-hop producer and rapper Jay Z.

Terrible voice and terrible tuning and repetitive lyrics. It all just repeats in the song Diamonds. Quit singing because no one likes your songs.

Her voice isn't very soothing to listen to. I don't understand the hype about her. I mean, she's talented, but she fails to deliver the melodies in her songs.

I am a Navy, but she is irritating. Her behavior up to 2010, and especially after 2016, along with all the controversies she's been involved in, makes me think she is overhyped. She's one of the best dancers and doesn't serve generic pop like many of today's singers. However, she also hits the most false notes, even if she sounds good. She is a club singer, at best. Anti is proof that she decided not to practice anymore. As a result, she's not really a singer anymore.

10 Dimash Kudaibergen Dinmukhamed Kanatuly Kudaibergenov, commonly known as Dimash Kudaibergen (born May 24th, 1994) is a Kazakh singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Dimash is best known as a contestant of Chinese talent show "Singer 2017" where he was declared a runner-up. He is also known for possessing a wide vocal range, measuring up to 5 octaves.

How are Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj ranked above him? While he's not considered very overrated outside of TheTopTens, on this platform, people constantly praise him as "the best singer", "the most underrated singer", or "the most unique voice". Personally, I've never heard his music, so I can't offer a judgment on these claims. However, he should rank higher because although people frequently discuss Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj, is the discourse ever positive? They seem more overhated than overrated. I'm not implying I'm a fan. In fact, I don't care for their music at all, but they shouldn't be on this list.

Even as a person who enjoys listening to Dimash, I can agree that he is overrated to an extent. He does tend to oversing a lot, his pronunciation of certain songs isn't too great (which isn't really his fault), he doesn't write much of his songs, and there are other singers (although very few) who are almost as vocally skilled as him.

However, I think the hate he receives is undeserved. Dimash is so good and talented that sometimes people will try to discredit him and use his skill as an excuse to hate him. Sure, sometimes he oversings but that's a testament to his skill. And yes, he can have emotion in some of his songs and covers, his knees can attest to that (if you know, you know).

While he may not have as much emotion in his singing as some others do, his stage presence can make up for it. And the claims that Dimash doesn't have passion or emotion for music/singing is egregious... I mean why else would this man train for 20+ years? Why else would he even attempt to sing songs in 10+ languages (and do some of them well, as even some people who speak those languages like Italian and Chinese say his pronunciation is good)?

Would you really think he'd train for that long to get this good at a hobby that he doesn't have a genuine passion and love for? Also, I know music and singing is about passion and soul, but isn't it also about actual vocals? Dimash is by far one of the greatest vocalists of the modern era, there's literally no denying that, and as far as I'm concerned he has the whole singing thing down.

Seriously, it's getting quite annoying how people try to search for flaws and find ways to ridicule Dimash and completely ignore the good qualities he has (even in real life, Dimash is seen to be a very charismatic and kind person). The hate he gets makes sense though, as he's extremely skilled at what he does, any person who is one of the best at what they do is bound to receive criticism and hate.

I just observed that... more

11 Britney Spears Britney Jean Spears, born on December 2, 1981, is an American former singer and actress. She was born in McComb, Mississippi, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana. As a child, she performed acting roles in stage productions and television shows, such as "The Mickey Mouse Club," before signing with Jive Records in 1997... read more

I don't hate Britney Spears. I just think she was required to use an auto-tuned voice when it came to recording an album. There are some songs from her I like, such as 'I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman' and 'No Satisfaction'. I feel bad for what happened to her in her personal life as well. Not to mention the lack of control over her life she had. She probably had no choice but to sing like that because that was what they wanted her to do. Not to mention how she became a phenomenon. I still liked some songs from her.

This singer is so bad. Her dancing is so bad and terrible, and her clothing is so inappropriate. She can't even sing. Don't listen to her.

Britney Spears is a product of her era - a gimmick. She's a significant reason why the pop genre was seen as disposable music. Her songs sound extremely outdated, and they lack the quality needed to be remembered as classics. Nobody in their right mind would listen to Britney for nostalgia.

Moreover, who on earth dubbed her the "princess of pop"? That title alone makes her the most overrated singer ever.

12 Billie Eilish Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, known professionally as Billie Eilish (born December 18, 2001) is an American singer and songwriter, best known for her songs "When the Party's Over", "Bury a Friend", "Everything I Wanted", "Happier Than Ever" and especially "Bad Guy".

Why isn't she number one? She is the worst out of all these boring modern pop singers. Her lyrics are so bad, and her voice! Oh my god! Her voice. She can't even sing. She just whispers, and people call that good singing! Stop listening to her. She is just terrible.

What a joke this one is! Her whispering could be used as a form of torture. And don't get me started on her always trying so hard to be edgy, when everything she's done has been done before.

She's not as bad or overrated as some on this list, but she's definitely overhyped. A lot of her teen girl fanbase claims she's "unique," "creepy," "quirky," and "not like the other girls." But when it comes down to it, she's just a moody, depressed skater teen who makes generic mumble pop music and tries too hard for shock value. It's a shame. She has some talent. Some of her older songs showcase decent singing, but most of her music is just generic radio noise.

13 Kurt Cobain Kurt Cobain was born February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington. In 1987, he started the grunge band Nirvana, which became one of the most successful bands ever. He was a talented yet troubled grunge performer. Kurt Cobain became a rock legend in the 1990s with his band. He committed suicide at his Seattle home in 1994.

I love 90s rock, but Nirvana just doesn't stand out lyrically or vocally. They had a great voice, excellent guitars, and fantastic drums, but their songs weren't the best. It's such a pity. They had immense potential and emerged when the industry needed a change. If he had stayed, they might have become an outstanding band.

Not only is Cobain on the list, but he is also the most overrated white male next to Bieber. Apart from Bieber, your top 16 consists entirely of females or African-Americans. This makes it seem like a typical sexist, racist Top Ten list.

As a guitarist, he's overrated. However, as a musician and composer, he's not. He transformed rock music. For the worse, evidently. Yet, he reshaped the entire music landscape with just one song.

14 John Lennon John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 - 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. He was assassinated by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980 at age 40. Lennon was characterised by the rebellious nature and acerbic wit in his music, writing and drawings,... read more

Terrible, god-awful singer. Should be number one. Sounds like he's talking when singing. He's only popular because of the Beatles and songwriting, that's it. He should be number one, not Beyoncé or Michael Jackson; genuinely talented and amazing singers.

The MOST overrated singer! The hype of the Beatles was very overrated too.

15 Ariana Grande Ariana Grande-Butera (born June 26, 1993) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Her four-octave vocal range has received critical acclaim, and her personal life has been the subject of widespread media attention. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including two Grammy Awards, one Brit Award, one Bambi Award, two Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards,... read more

I used to love Ariana Grande, but now I just can't stand her! I loved her Nickelodeon TV show, and when she started her singing career, some of her old songs like One Last Time, My Everything, Santa Tell Me, Put Your Hearts Up, Break Free, Bang Bang, and Almost is Never Enough were actually good. But her new album Positions is so overplayed on Spotify, and I don't like any of her latest songs, especially her latest one called yes, and? It's super overrated.

I even liked her voice better when she started her music career. It sounded deeper and super angelic, but now it just sounds like a squeaking child whining. She just can't sing like she used to. Also, she used to have appropriate lyrics, but now she swears too much in her songs, and the lyrics to her latest songs just don't make sense if you listen to them closely enough.

I liked her old songs a lot better, including her Nickelodeon TV show series. She put on great shows, but now she hasn't performed or gone on tour in a long time. I also can't believe she homewrecked a relationship. Her new song yes, and? is just super annoying and bland.

She used to have good looks and look super attractive, but now she's just fallen apart. She's gotten slimmer, and the new blonde mid-ponytail just isn't it. So I'm sorry, Ari, but I like the old you better. I wish it was more like the olden days, and she should have stayed in acting, performing, touring, making hit songs and albums. I wish she didn't force her voice to be that squeaky kind of type. I liked her old one better. So yeah, that's my opinion.

16 Ozzy Osbourne John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne was born on December 3, 1948. He is also known as ''The Prince of Darkness''. Ozzy is an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the band Black Sabbath. Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 and has since had a successful solo career, releasing 11 studio albums.

Now, I like Ozzy, but I will admit he's overrated and not as good as everyone says. I used to listen to him a lot back then, but since I got older and discovered Dio, I realized that Dio was way better. Just my personal opinion.

He's a great lyricist, but his voice is terrible. Just because he managed to get some excellent musicians together for a fantastic metal band doesn't mean he's a good singer.

Ozzy is proof that drug abuse kills brain cells.

17 Chris Brown Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. He is most well known for his physical assault towards the singer Rihanna in 2009. He is also known for many hit singles, such as "Kiss Kiss", "Run It!", "Forever", "Deuces", "Look... read more

The industry needed a new RnB kid star after Michael, so they gave him a huge push. He was a gimmick that, against the odds, worked out. Extensive vocal coaching, detailed marketing, heavy production, and choreography training were invested in him. Despite all this, he remains mediocre in vocals. Songwriting is also an area where he doesn't seem to excel. In short, the experiment worked, despite the incomplete nature of the final product. #EnoughSaid

While he can dance, he sounds like a whiny individual. There's nothing special about his voice. PLEASE RETIRE, Chris!

He shouldn't be number 22. Vote him higher on this list. His songs aren't valuable, yet they garner more views than Owl City.

18 Ed Sheeran Edward Christopher "Ed" Sheeran is an English singer-songwriter and musician. He sang songs such as The A team and Shape of You. He was born in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk.

Ed Sheeran is actually very overrated. Yes, he's a really good singer, but he sounds like tons of other male singers I've heard non-stop in the late 2010s last decade. First off, he sounds like Justin Bieber (kind of), because once I thought Shape Of You was made by JB. Secondly, I got super tired of hearing Perfect. It played a billion times, and it still plays today. I feel like I could never catch a break from that song, which is why I hate it so much.

He is too overrated, and so are his songs. I honestly don't think his voice is THAT good. How are his songs beautiful?

Boring songwriting. He has a decent voice, but his melodies and intervals never vary much from song to song.

19 Axl Rose William Bruce Rose Jr., better known as 'Axl Rose', is an American singer born on February 6, 1962, in Lafayette, Indiana. He Is the founder and lead singer of the hard rock band Guns N' Roses. He is a celebrated but controversial figure in the world of rock.

21 Robert Plant Robert Anthony Plant (born 20 August 1948) is an English musician, singer, and songwriter best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin.

He's an overrated rock star who is often hailed as an incredible artist. This acclaim seems biased, especially when people merely look at his band and then declare him talented.

Yes, he's definitely overrated. I find his voice annoying.

Led Zeppelin is overrated!

22 Katy Perry Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, professionally known by her stage name Katy Perry, was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. She is a singer, songwriter, actress and an ambassador on one of the most popular companies of now, UNICEF.

She started off really good, but eventually, she just started to use her body to promote her music. Eventually, all that was good about her was her music videos. Now she doesn't even sing anymore. She just does ads. The great have really fallen.

A lot of her songs sound the same. Roar is the worst. I can't understand why this song achieved hit status because it sounds silly. And her voice is mediocre at best. However, she is quite attractive.

Katy Perry can't be this low, at least in the top ten.

She's incredibly overrated! "Roar", "Firework", and all her "good" songs are subpar.

23 Lorde Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor (born 7 November 1996), better known by her stage name Lorde, is a singer-songwriter from New Zealand. She released her first EP "The Love Club" in 2012 and gained worldwide popularity with her song "Royals" at the age of 16.

You can barely hear her voice. I bet if she goes any higher, she'll sound more horrible than she is now. However, her lyrics are great. VERY OVERRATED!

Her music is not my type, and I don't know. I've seen her perform live, and she was not that good of a singer. Sorry.

Her voice is kind of annoying, but her music is way better than most modern pop.

24 Miley Cyrus Miley Ray Hemsworth (born Destiny Hope Cyrus), known as Miley Cyrus, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on November 23, 1992, in Franklin, Tennessee, to Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus. Her voice type is Mezzo-Soprano and has 4 octaves. She became famous primarily because of her show, Hannah Montana.

Her voice is horrible! Every time I hear her sing, I get mad and yell, "STOP IT! If you have a heart, please stop singing!"

She's caused me to cringe so much! And I thought Hatsune Miku had the most annoying voice!

Artists like Miley are a sign of the times. I was once forced to watch Hannah Montana with my elementary school students and found myself thinking, "Why is this so overrated?"

She has the right parents. Ron Jeremy did a great parody of her hit "Wrecking Ball" on YouTube. It's a piece of art.

25 Cardi B Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar (born October 11, 1992), known professionally as Cardi B, is an American rapper.
