Top 10 Songs on Celtic Frost's Cold Lake

This is the fourth album by Celtic Frost, and you may notice there are no samples for it. Here is the reason why: this album is basically considered a sell-out album because the band cashed in on the glam scene that was happening at the time. They switched from their extreme metal sound to a more traditional heavy metal sound, though it was marketed toward the glam audience.

When it was released, it was panned by both critics and fans, who labeled it a sell-out album. Not only did they sell out musically, but they also changed their appearance, adopting teased hairstyles to look like popular glam acts such as Mötley Crüe. Their earlier works had been underground extreme metal.

Modern reviews for the album have been more positive, but it still remains known as the worst Celtic Frost album. The band skipped this album when remastering their catalog because they themselves dislike it. Tom Warrior has stated it was the "absolute worst I could do in my lifetime." He has also called it "an utter piece of s***" and "possibly the worst album ever created in heavy music." Oliver Amberg was quickly fired after the release of the album.

Some of the songs later appeared on the compilation "Parched with Thirst Am I and Dying," but in a different, heavier mix that Tom Warrior supervised.

The album is no longer officially available to buy for the reasons mentioned, making it much sought after by collectors.

Despite being one of the most hated albums in metal, Quorthon from Bathory praised the album and claimed it influenced his solo career and his move toward grunge.
