Best The Walking Dead Episodes

The Top Ten
1 Too Far Gone

Out of the whole Walking Dead Series, this episode was the best. The amount of emotion and action in this episode wad tense. It forever changed the Walking Dead story. However, Season 4 as a whole was not the best. Season 1, 2 and 5 were excellent seasons, Season 3-4 were both bad seasons as a whole. Season 5 was a good season, Season 6 was a yet another bad season, a little better than Season 3 and 4 and Season 7 was a bad season overall as well slightly bettDr than Season 6, 4 and 3. I still say that Showrunner Scott Gimple did a good job in some of the episodes from Season 4-7 that really were engaging (Too Far Gone, A, No Sanctuary, Always Accountable, JSS, No Way Out, No Tomorrow, Same Boat, Twice as Far, The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (good but in a bad way of hurting the show), Go Getters, Sing Me a Song, Heart Still Beating, S7 Ep 9, S7 Ep11, S7Ep13-16. My po8nt is that the show has a couple episodes that are excellent but others that drop quality. Seasons should have ...more

This episode was a masterpiece. No episode came close to the perfection to this episode. While "No Sanctuary" Was my 2nd favourite, the quality still is way behinds "Too Far Gone". I have to give Scott Gimple a lot of credit for being showrunner this season. This episode really made up for Episode's 1-5 slow pace. With Scott Gimple though, I have felt that each that goes by with him is losing its quality. Just because you want to make every season different does not mean you should change the pacing and quality by a significant amount. Season 4 Excellent. Season 5 Very Good. Season 6 okay. Season 7 Good except for the Midseason Finale and Finale being excellent. All Out War should be wrapped up in the first half of Season 8 like the Governor's arch being like that unless another 16 episodes would really pay off. Season 8 should back off from killing too many main characters since Glenn's loss was big enough. I hope that Season 8 will have a faster pace to it and make the last Negan ...more

Best episode of Season 4 and of the entire series so far. This episode alone made Season 4 worth it and a must see despite the first five episodes being a little too slow. The Governor Arch honestly should have lasted longer. He is my favourite villain so far, even better than Negan to me. Negan is a very reasonable person. To save Glenn, Daryl should have not punched Negan. To Save Abraham, either Rick should have not attacks the outpost or Rick should have handed Negan a rocket launcher to negotiated. For characters though, I love Negan better though. Ever since this episode quality on thw Walking dead has been on a decline of excellent episodes except S5 ep 1, S6 Ep 9, S7 ep 7 and S7 Ep 8. Despite how Season 4 is so unbalanced, it is still my favourite given the development and the Governor.

Best episode of the series yet. This episode was the most action packed episode I have seen with perfect mixed story elements and the most surprising death I have seen in the whole series so far. This episode is simply a perfect masterpiece 10/10. This episode would arguably would be hard to top and theonly eepisode that I think possibly could do that is the Season 7 Premiere so far depends if its good. The interesting thing I saw was that episode actually did not show the governor die but showed Lilly shake a bit when she fired her bullets which could indicate the Governor somehow gets out and survives although that would be very unlikely. A cool thing that I would do is mak him survive the attack and have him return in the season 6 Finale back in a new way.

2 Beside the Dying Fire

To me, 9TH best episode. The farm incident was cool and it really had the quality of a season finale in many ways. As a general statement for season 2, I think they killed off a little too much characters. For me, I think that the Walking dead felt basically like we should have a good amount of main characters die a season. For me, I don't necessarily think that always killing main characters makes the season always better, especially this early in the series. Two characters I would have kept alive this season would be Shane and Jimmy, Bethe's lover. I would leave these two characters alive because I do not think that they deserved death this early. Sophia was a great death scene, teaches you the lesson that you don't leave people like that behind, Dayle's death was powerful teaching Carl a lesson about being smarter and the group a lesson about their humanity. Patricia was alright because I saw absolutely no use in her. Those are enough fatalities in Ricks group and for the ...more

Best episode in my opinion. This episode is set up so well in the previous episode and it actually deals with a zombie horde which should happen more often in my opinion.

This episode gives a nod to all the old school zombie movies of the past. Well done, the falling barn totally embodies the show as a whole.

It is simply amazing. This is my farm I'll die here!

3 No Way Out

This episode is my 3rd Favourite episode of the entire Series so far as of the Season 7 Finale with my second favourite episode being "No Sanctuary" and best episode being "Too Far Gone". I doubt that any episode except those two will be better than this episode as the quality of the show is decreasing every Season. The Saviors group being introduced, Daryl's explosion kills, Carl losing his eye and the fight for Alexandria were the top three impressive things of this episode. My favourite episode of Season 6.

This episode is one that is pretty much perfectly done with a perfect beginning, Daryl and his rocket launcher and a very gruesome and solid middle, the deaths and Carl's eye and an insightful ending. This episode to me would be the second best episode yet with all the actions. One thing I would have changed was Jesse's demise. She died far too early and I feel that I would have liked this love better than the richonne. Hell I would not have minded if she staayed up to get a much powerful death like from Negan's Lucille, of course if that were to happen, there would be a second major death in there as she would not be good alone, maybe glenn or michonne to have to join her. I don't know she had so much potential and that kind of death would traumatized Rick given the extra time for relationship. I would not even minded if she lived past that point.

Best episode by FAR! My favourite. When Rick doesn't care whats going on around him and he just slaughters all of the walkers with a axe. Then when Darryl sets the river on fire to distract the walkers. Awesome. What happened to Carl, Was sad but he lived. R.I.P Sam Jessie & Ron. Also, The opener was really well done, With the Saviors, And the RPG. Amazing. Just, Flawless.

Intense action, heartbreaking loss. This episode is my all time favorite. It is when Alexandrians old and new finally become one. It shows the true power of the human spirit. To be able to face their fears and overcome them. Most powerful performance by far.

4 No Sanctuary

To me this would be the third best episode. This was perfect to see the brutality in it, it was nice to see the given conflict Rick and the gang faced and on how Carol is awesome at killing and arriving in the nick of time. Also, I loved Ricks line we are not leaving until they are all dead line, so good, true and correct. Two episodes I like better are Too far gone and No way out because of the action and potential that it gave and or could or would or will ultimately give or given to the series. No improvements I would have advised, excellent job Robert Kirkland and the executive Producers.

To me, this is the Second best episode with Too Far Gone being the best. The pacing was fast and there was plenty of action this episode. No wonder why this episode was the most viewed episode in the Walking Dead.

This should absolutely be number #1. Watching the survivors get hit and then bled out one by was the MOST INTENSE scene EVER. And also when Rick explains what's in the bag and with what weapon he is going to kill Gareth with. So brutal

This is an awesome, action-packed premiere! Really takes you back into the action, as well as giving more depth into Terminus and the character Gareth.

5 Killer Within

The one where walkers invade the prison and kill T-Dog and Lori dies giving birth to her baby.

The one where walkers attack and kill T-Dog and Lori dies giving birth.

Only good because Lori died. I kinda liked t dog

Killer Within is already number 4. No need to put it on the list again. T

6 Days Gone Bye

Days Gone Bye is still the best episode of the entire series. The way it was filmed and directed, the pacing and the scale makes me feel like I'm watching a movie instead of a T.V. drama. I guess it has to do with Frank Darabont directing it. Other episodes that I like are those with scenes of Rick going crazy like biting the man's throat, hacking Gareth in a church with a machete, hacking the inmate in the prison, breaking down after learning Lori's death and hacking walkers in a rage, talking to dead Lori over phone, hitting the cop with a car after he refused to stop running and scenes where Rick got to say the most epic lines of the series like "We are the walking dead", "They are screwing with the wrong people" and his promise made to Gareth to kill him with the machete even when his team was captured.

Morgan has appeared again in season 5 and season 3 but why did Rick have to meet Morgan and leave him in the same episode?

The first episode when the madness begins.

Perfect setup to a perfect show.

7 The Day Will Come When You Won't Be

While it definitely is the most gut wrenching episode in TWD and in T.V. history in general, it is still a visual and suspense full masterpiece that might never be topped, EVER. It was perhaps the end of TWD in many ways for the majority of viewers, but for die hard fans, it is an emotionel rollercoaster and will never keep viewers more disturbed and on the edge of their seats. The episode delivers from season 6' huge cliffhanger and much more. Despite the beyond life sadness, it still is the best episode ever.

Brilliantly done, and showed the very lowest our gang can possibly get. Andrew Lincoln was fabulous in it, and the piece of music at the end, with Maggie standing there, while you heard Negan's voice talking about the Sunday lunch thing... in floods.

The saddest and most brutal episode in the history of The Walking Dead. The deaths of Abraham & Glenn will forever haunt fans of the series.

I mean, come on, it's brutality must put it on top. It gripped my heart until the very end. The episode still haunts me to this very day.

8 The Grove

I feel like this episodes showed the absolute limit Carol would have to go to to keep Tyreese, Judith, and herself alive. She still does have her humanity in tact, as shown once she lifted that gun and knew there was no going back, tears running down her cheeks. I don't understand how Rick would find her a danger, since all she ever does is do what Rick can not, which is killing imams in order to save other humans. A gripping episode that kept you interested, with a devastating end to the characters of Lizzie And Mika. Easily one of my top episodes!

Redemption through atonement ... It was suitable penance for the indiscretions that landed her on the outs with Rick and Company. Carol learned she couldn't fix things and couldn't protect herself from the harsh world she was living in. She goes on to experience turmoil and triumph, but I believe this episode is when she realized she could neither control nor avoid the world around her.

"Look at the flowers, Lizzie."

This will probably wind up being the most haunting line ever on television. I couldn't even type it without starting to cry. Mercy killings are one thing, but to see the lovable, caring Carol execute (pun intended) a proactive killing with the intent of preventing uncertain - even doubtful - possible future deaths is beyond chilling.

What started as another ordinary episode, turned completely into a shocking and emotional master piece! Couldn't stop crying for the last 10 minutes of the show, while I didn't drop a tear before this. Very we'll written, acted, and mostly planned. Hints were dropped in the early season three. Wow!

9 Conquer

What is this doing down at 16? This has to be in the top 3! Best 3 episodes: Too Far Gone, Conquer, The Day Will Come When You Won't Be

Amazing season finale. Should be top 10 at least.

How is this not higher? This is top 15 at LEAST.

Morgan reappears like a ninja!

10 Pretty Much Dead Already

This was so heart wrenching to find Sophia, and it is so weird because how was she bitten, and when. It seems to me she was bitten and then ran off and hid somewhere and died. Otis then somehow found her and put her in the barn. I also wonder and this would be horrible, if Otis placed her in the barn alive since she was wondering alone. That would be horrible.

12th best episode to me, it shows how brutal the Walking dead world truly is. No one is safe not even children protected by their parents. Mind blowing to see that Sophia was in the barn but yet somewhat predictable that she died looking at Shane's view about her.

The one where Shane opens the barn and kills the walkers and we find out that Sophia was in the barn.

Best scene of the history. And the music when sophia comes out is incredible.

The Contenders
11 This Sorrowful Life

To me, the 7th best episode. Love the suicidal reckless Merle in this episode. So sad he died, killed off way too early in my opinion and think that he deserves to live for a very long time hell if that zombie did not get in his way and reveal his position he could have escaped after he killed the rest of the governors men and in fact, I would believe that he would be alive all the way up to the present, Season 7 or beyond. He would have probably be a huge fan favourite right now as he is so bad ass and would actually be a very valuable soldier in the all out war story line. I wonder if Kirkland looked back at the show and thought one of his greatest regrets was killing Merle of that soon and lets say the show was out before the comic and he thought writing it that killing Merle was a mistake. Still a very excellent episode.

Heartbreaking. Masterful acting by Reedus and a sad end to the lovable, badass Merle. It really shows Rooker's dynamic acting range to rally behind an otherwise despicable character you come to admire when you absolutely wanted to hate him.

I ain't gonna beg... I ain't begging you! Haha! That reminds me if what he said when trying to escape the cuffs in season 1!

By far the best episode. We saw another side of a very complicated character, Merle. Best episode yet.

12 A

10th best episode to me. Excellent on Rick and the group travelling, finding Derle and Rick bitting Joe's neck. The brutality is a strong component I'm this and near the end where Rick and the gang opens fire on the Terminus gang.

In my opinion, Season 4 was the worst season and with an exception of a few episodes it was pretty boring. But I think this episode was among the best of Season 4 and gave it a good rating.

I think this, Clear, and Days Gone Bye are three of my favorite television episodes of all time. But "A" is the Walking Dead at it's best. Better than all of season 2 combined.

Rick bites a guys throat and stabs a dude repeatedly over and over while his son watched truly the best scene of the entire show.

13 What Lies Ahead

The one where Sophia goes missing and Carl gets shot.

14 Better Angels

No I disagree, Shane was out of control. He wanted Rick's wife. Just like Risk said, Shane acted as if Rick was in the way. I get they were best friends which was so obvious and funny when Shane tried to carry Rick from the hospital bed but Shane was very insensitive from the start, wanting to kill Randall, wanting to leave the crew in Atlanta, wanting to forgoe the search for Sophia, heartless.

Shane's death was well done. Most built up moment in the entire show.

Rick killed Shane, surprised the crap out of me.

The one where Rick shoots Shane.

15 TS-19

I loved learning about the dead, how France is our last hope, and most importantly Dr. Jenner. What pisses me off most about the series is how everyone seems to ignore what happened on this episode which is definitely the most important secret the group learned. In my opinion the only way the Walking Dead can be saved is that if they learn about a possible cure instead of facing off against another human bad guy.

Nothing beats the sad, conflicted character, Dr. Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich).

This is the 13th best episode to me. It was great to learn about the status of the CDCs around the world, and that France may very well be the last hope. Also, the scene about Shane at the hospital was excellent. I do admit, though, that Doctor Jenner should have lived longer. Additionally, it is worth noting that Jenner had an automatic assault rifle in this episode. It would have been cool to see Rick grab those weapons before they left. However, understanding the time they had to leave the lab before it exploded, they would not have made it in time for other weapons. But I am pretty sure that there was an assault rifle really close to the computers when you look closely at Jenner and the episode.

This was the most intense episode for me.

16 Last Day On Earth

Why does everyone hate the cliff hanger? I thought it was really smart. It makes a great discussion topic over the summer and keeps people guessing so people get even more pumped for the season 7 premier. What better way to begin than reveal Negan's victim? I mean the episode could've been a little more well done because most of it was just them driving around, but the final scene with Negan was probably one of my favorite scenes in T.V. history. If there was a list of which T.V. scenes kept me on the edge of my seat most, this would definitely be number 1

The epitome of TWD. Be kind to each other. Remember Maggie reminding Hershel that he taught her from the Bible to love one another. In the end, love is what matters most, love of family, being together through the best & worst that the (apocalyptic) world has left, make every little gesture matter. And sacrifice for the same ressons. Whether it's appreciated later on, all groups with the same "code" will foutrish. The bond cannot be broken, and this episode shows ALL of those qualities in various characters.

This episode made me feel really underwhelmed. Most of the episode was just driving. The only things that made me happy in this episode was Simon's introduction and Negan's introduction. That made up for the rest of the episode. However, the cliff-hanger really made me very disappointed. I get why The Walking Dead did it so that viewers would not leave but it still made the episode and next episode very disappointing. 1 good rule to know on this show is don't kill Glenn. I understand that it was good for the comics but it isn't great for the show because Glenn's actor was an amazing and once in a life time actor and his character was also developed so well as well. The consequence of killing Glenn was AMC losing 40% of its viewers. What the Walking Dead should do for the Season 8 Premiere is make the biggest twist ever on The Walking Dead history. The biggest twist would be bring back Glenn and actually make him alive. I know how the show could pull it off. First, after the premiere, ...more

Really BAD episode it was an hour of the show and 30 min of commercials! The episode was just Rick and his group taking turns around the road. Only about 10 min of Negan in the end! Then it ends with the worst cliffhanger in history! At least we got to see Negan...

17 Guts

The one where we first see Glenn and they handcuff Merle to the roof of the building.

18 Welcome to the Tombs

The humanity in all of it's sadness made this an episode to remember.

19 The Calm Before

Best episode. If I can sum it up I would say The red wedding but not much worse then that.It made me shed tears seeing the deaths of Tara, Enid and, Henry and all those other civilians on the pikes. The episode was paced brilliantly and can show what things Alpha and whispers are capable of.

Left me speechless. The best scene in the entirety of the shows lifetime. And even without THAT scene, the rest of the episode had a brilliant pace, atmosphere, dialogue, etc. Just fantastic

This is would easily be top 10 for sure.

The pinnacle of television.

20 Thank You

Amazing episode full of death, danger around every corner, walkers everywhere, and even a touching mini story of an Alexandrian that was shared with Glenn. Not to mention the shows closest call to a death ever with Glenn and the dumpster!

21 Internment

To me this is in the top three along with when lori dies when giving birth, and when shane got killed by rick and carl, not only did this episode show huge charachter development, with hershal killing the walkers and then giving up his hope with god closer to the end, it also brought back one of the biggest T.V. villians (the governer), it most importantly reincarnated the fear of walkers, before they were just a distraction to the people

This episode was just filled with constant action and badass moments

22 Judge, Jury, Executioner

Dale's character portrayal is beyond outstanding. Made me cry by the filming of this episode, very evoking.

The one where Dale gets killed by the walker that Carl didn't kill.

23 Seed

Taking that prison, chopping off Hershel's leg, the best zombie kill when Rick pulls of the security guard walker's mask, peeling off it's face...AND we get Emily Kinney singing "the Parting Glass"...Now if this ain't the best episode, I don't know anything... sure as hell deserves a better position than it's currently in (17). Upvote Please!

This episode has everything, that's why it totally has my vote!

The best episode ever on this show period!

24 Home

The one where The Governor attacks the prison.

The best feeling- when they all arrive to defend against the governor
