The Contenders: Page 4

61 Ganging Up On the Sun - Guster

Not my personal pick (Which is a tie between Pink Floyd's The Wall and Queen's A Night At The Opera,) But I'm still really happy to see Guster on here. They deserve 10 times the fans that they have now. Their songs are so quirky and strangely beautiful that you can't help but be charmed by them. Awesome band, terrific album.

62 Van Halen - Van Halen

An absolute killer album, one of the greatest debut albums, awesome songs and production, the bands smokes on this one. If this was a guitar based album list and these were just guitar fans or people that knew what great actually meant then this album would be high on the list or fighting amongst other killer albums like some Van Halen's very own albums. - frankmartin

Infectious, melodic, and ear blistering! Still has me in awe. It's impact on the future guitar slingers alone makes it a top 20, and the fact most if these sings are known and loved by most put in top 10!

For grab your *****, EXCITEMENT,non-cerebral,kick ass guitar,no pretense, straight ahead ummm ROCK AND ROLL..don't overlook this one!

Love the 80s rock sound xx

63 Led Zeppelin I - Led Zeppelin

Of all if the great Led Zeppelin albums, this is the best. Just so many classic songs! Good Times Bad Times, Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You, Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, pretty much every track on this album is great. Also, this is the best debut album ever.

Led Zeppelin's first through sixth album are the most consistantly brilliant string of rock albums ever made, surpassing the Beatles and Stones easily. Any one of them could top this list. - bobby

This album is it. This is the greatest Rock and Blues album ever.

I saw another chart and this one was rated at #58 of all time - frankmartin

64 Nightmare - Avenged Sevenfold

This album has 3-4 hits that make this album memorable for foREVer. RIP THE REV

Easily one of the greatest albums of all time

Nice rock song

Easily avengeds most emotional work. If avenged was more well known, this would easily be top ten. It saddens me to think that people even listen to Linkin Park. I suggest real music.

65 Demon Days - Gorillaz

Gorillaz never fails to inspire and amaze me

One of the best albums I've ever heard

Gorillaz is very timeless, and this album shows that.

Easily one of the best albums I've ever listened to

66 Weezer - Weezer

There are some fantastic albums on this list, and I would agree with the top 11 for the most part. Abbey road, the dark side of the moon (especially), thriller, and OK Computer are fantastic albums in their own right. The blue album is also fantastic however, #187 is borderline blasphemy. #1, no. #10? probably not. But dear god, it's better than Selena Gomez. I like to think that an album can be judged by the number of singles it has. while 1 or 2 is pretty good, the 4 off of this album at least put it higher than #100.

A perfect balance between accessible pop hooks and brilliant instrumentation. An absolute classic.

Why is this so low? Weezer is the best

I don't know much about Weezer but I do know Ric Ocasek produced some music for Weezer so they have at least one record that sounds cool. - frankmartin

67 The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground

For me it was a toss up between this and bridge over troubled water, though I love Simon and garfunkel and there music is just so charming, this album is so out there and creative it had to get the vote, the velvet underground are pure genius and yes this album may not have the mass appeal of Sgt. Pepper but does that mean it's not as good of course not, in fact this album is above and beyond, no one has made music quite like the velvet underground, they shown another side to music, they shown us what music can be, it's amazing what they did with this album and they should be recognised as one of the greats

This is the most influential and greatest album of all time. End of discussion. To have it in the 100s is a disgrace. The album is so far ahead of it's time that we still haven't caught up to it. The blues drone, the proto-punk lyrics and riffs. This album was designed to shock, using overdrive in a way Hendrix would never have imagined and literally creating alternative and noise rock. It's a brutal, maniac genius album, with the only free rock song I've ever heard. European Son

Judging by the albums placed higher than this one and the reviews for said albums, I have concluded that not a single person who uses this website is over the age of twelve and/or has some kind major learning disability.

"The most prophetic rock album of all time". It has influenced everything since its release in 1967 from David Bowie to the Sex Pistols and beyond. Every new wave and punk band owes something to this album.

68 BloodSugarSexMagik - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Amazing album. It have everything. From punk, over rock to funk and pop

its the best album I've ever lisin 2. it has so many styles of music. - bleaghh

I personally think that Californication, but Blood Sugar Sex Magik is not far behind at all. I'm listening to it right now!

Best era of the peppers. like putting funk punk and rap in a blender. every song is a masterpiece

69 Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division

Man, this is literally one of the best albums of all time how is this not at least within the top 3, and even more to the point, how did things like Michael jackson, lady gaga and other albums that are near 20th place get in front of JOY DIVISION has the world gone insane!

I cannot say this is the greatest album of all time because as I look through this list I see so many albums I could rank at number 1 but damn this is a good album, there are so many fantastic albums not on this list and so many awful albums that are but Joy Divisions Unknown Pleasures should be in the top 5!

86th is a disgraceful place for one of the most extraordinary albums to emerge from the Manchester punk scene. Not only a pioneer for all the fantastic post-punk albums that would follow, Unknown Pleasures is a masterpiece of lyrics and minimalism. - mjgass

This is a pretty important album in the music industry and one of my favorites. - Mumbizz01

70 All Hope is Gone - Slipknot

So I scrolled all this time and there it is

71 Painkiller - Judas Priest

One of the greatest albums of the history metal music.

This album is a masterpiece of metal. It gives me so much energy that I can do a Genkidama

72 Deja Entendu - Brand New
73 Sha Sha - Ben Kweller
74 Ten - Pearl Jam

If Eddie had taken both barrels instead of Kurt, these guys would be considered the most influential band of the grunge scene.

Nevermind gets all the attention but Ten along with Superunknown were the real thing. Nevermind is cool when you're a teenager or in your twenties but as you get older you need more that just angst and aggravation to say something. I was listening to Ten just the other night. I never really thought of Ten as a grunge album, more like 90s rock, same with Superunknown. Just better quality songs and melodies. - frankmartin

All the songs that made this album are wonderful

Nevermind might get the top vote over Ten but Ten sold more copies in The USA. - frankmartin

75 Dirt - Alice In Chains

In terms of sheer heaviness, there aren't many album I have heard that are darker, moodier, heavier, and more emotional than this. Every song is a masterpiece. Key tracks: Rooster, Down In a Hole, Would? , Them Bones, Rain When I Die

Arguably the most influential rock band of the 90's. Every song sang by Layne Staley is a thing of beauty.

Viewing the album as a whole, I actually think Dirt is better than most of the Nirvana albums.

In my opinion, Alice in Chains are more musically influential then Nirvana, how many bands take Nirvanas sound and just add a slightly different vocalist, none that I can name, but Alice in Chains has Godsmack, KoRn, and 75% of 2000s metal bands.

76 In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel

I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST shakes the listener to the bone in an album full of cryptic lyrics and bizarre instrumentation. This album achieves full emotion like no other album has for me.

Please. Who cares about Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy anyway. I did but that was a dark time known as Junior High School. Please, world. How does "Rockstar" by Nickelback compare to "Oh Comely"? This is a gem, folks. Appriecate it. This is not for everybody but this deserves top 100. At least.

It is my favourite album of all time, and it is a solid and consistent album which really makes you appreciate music more. - Jiorl

All I can really say is that it's a pretty good album, even if it is just a meme. It's a solid Indie rock album; nothing more, and nothing less. - Evafag

77 Toxicity - System of a Down

Every song has a message that it reveals, and most songs are underrated because of the album's singles.
This should be much higher people, vote!

This and Lateralus are the best! Lateralus isn't even on this list though! And Lateralus is probably BETTER than Toxicity! - moose4life19

I don't understand how this is so low and lateralus isn't even on the list. - Flying_spidermonkey

Easily the best album of all time

78 Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine

RATM: empowering a rebellion amongst a society where the majority believes there's nothing to rebel GENIUS! This record is a true masterpiece that undoubtedly deserves a spot in the top 5. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, every song is phenomenal

This was the first album on the list that I seen that I actually own so I vote for this one. Also love Rage Against The Machine! - Jonerman

Another great album to work out to

Most consistent and politically powerful album of all time with 9 out of 10 songs that are definitely releasable it just tells everything that's messed up about the world and that this world that we live in is far from perfect.

Greatest album ever

79 Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix

The king of the guitar at his best. All Along The Watchtower, Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile. This album is electric, energetic, original, full of virtuoso Hendrix performances. This is the best album ever produced!

So deserves to be in top 20 at minimum.

Jimi's in a class of his own and doesn't need to compete with second rate albums. Just look at all the albums that beg to be number #1. The greatest album is the one you think is the greatest. - frankmartin

Better than Are You Experienced by a mile.

It seems you haven't been experienced enough to make a comment like that. Jimi's first three albums are consistent masterpieces and anybody that knows Jimi knows this to be true. - frankmartin

80 Master of Reality - Black Sabbath

Are you kidding me, one of the best vinyl's in terms of guitar riffs. Deserves the top 50 at least I mean there's not even a bad song on here

Amazing album

My personal GOAT - Rambles
