Top 10 Bands that are Most Surprisingly Still Together in 2024
Did you think these bands were finished? Well, they're still together, in case you weren't aware! For this list, we're considering bands that have been around for a very long time. They may not have released new music recently, but they are still together.
Most of these bands may have embarked on multiple tours over the past few years. However, they have mostly stayed out of the spotlight, and the prospects for new music seem low.
They've been around for over 60 years, and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are surprisingly still kicking ass. Their latest album, Hackney Diamonds, is awesome.
This band will still be kicking ass when all on earth at the moment are long gone.
Since their 1997 reunion, Fleetwood Mac has never separated, despite Christine McVie's death in 2022 and Lindsey Buckingham's departure in 2018. Buckingham has since been replaced with Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame for lead guitar duties, and Neil Finn of Crowded House fame for male vocal duties. They haven't released new music since their 2013 EP, and their latest studio album was released in 2003. My guess is as long as Mick Fleetwood and John McVie live, the band will go on.
They recently broke up in late 2023 or early 2024. Go Your Own Way hits different now.
They've been active since 1961, and despite key members leaving and coming back, this band surprisingly never split. Better yet, they still have four key members who have been part of the band since the 1960s, namely Brian Wilson (sans his brothers Carl and Dennis, who both passed away), Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston. Their latest album was released in 2012, but it's not even their longest gap between two albums.
Toto has had many lineup changes over time, but just when you thought the band was ending for good in 2019, guitarist Steve Lukather and singer Joseph Williams brought it back. They announced they will keep touring together under the Toto moniker.
How does Lynyrd Skynyrd still exist today with no original members left? They are Southern rock's greatest living legends and survived their 1977 airplane crash. Still it's a mystery that this band still hasn't called it quits since their 1987 reunion, especially after Gary Rossington, who was with Skynyrd since the beginning, recently died. Now, the band feels like a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band led by Johnny Van Zant, trying to honor his brother Ronnie's legacy. Not to mention, their latest album was released in 2012, which is already 12 years ago.
Believe it or not, The Who have never split since their 1999 reunion, despite the deaths of drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle. Now, it's just a project centered around Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend and not much else.
Yep, the Eagles are still going. They split in 2016 following Glenn Frey's death but reunited the following year with Glenn's son, Deacon, and country legend Vince Gill. Since then, there's been no new music, just touring.
Edit: they're on a farewell tour so they might call it quits soon.
They're on a farewell tour, but they just announced that holograms will be performing during their next concerts. Why can't they just call it quits for good?
They technically disbanded in 2023, but are performing as holograms during their "farewell tour".
Since their 2011 reunion, New Order has released one album in 2015 and that's it. The rest is extensive touring.
Yep, in case you didn't know, disco legends Village People are still together. Aside from a holiday album in 2018, they haven't released a new studio album since 1985.
Funk legends Kool & The Gang will be celebrating their 60th anniversary this year. The band has undergone multiple lineup changes, with Robert "Kool" Bell being the only original member left. They have lost many of their members over the past few years. I guess as long as Kool lives, the band will go on.
No Mercury & Deacon = No Queen.
Although May and Taylor are continuously touring under the "Queen" brand name w/ Adam Lambert, I do not see them as authentic Queen but a Queen cover band.
They haven't released any new music since 2012, and they're on a farewell tour that will likely last forever, until one of them eventually dies.
I thought they broke up after Steve Harwell's death (rest in peace Steve, he was a talented man). But I am glad to see they didn't.
I'm really surprised that Smash Mouth is still active after Steve Harwell's retirement and subsequent death.
In the decade since the death of their guitarist Bob Casale (Bob 2), Devo has continued with Josh Hager (Josh 2, their drummer Josh Freese being the first Josh) as his replacement. Fred Armisen also replaced Josh Freese in the band for one concert in 2018.
The band has not released any new music since then, although their frontman Mark Mothersbaugh has scored a number of movies, including "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Cocaine Bear". Additionally, during this time, their former drummer David Kendrick has played with Revolushn, Xiu Xiu, and (allegedly) Bastille.
It's been more than a decade since The Human League released their latest studio album, and the prospects for new music from them are very low.
Just like Maroon 5, 30STM has consistently gotten worse overtime, and now it's just Jared Leto and his brother Shannon. Jared's ego is just as big as Adam Levine, and their latest music is very atrocious and uninspired. They are a band I wouldn't mind seeing calling it quits soon as Jared sounded so out of it in their latest album, which is one of if not the worst album of last year. Jared also has a reputation for being of the rudest people in Hollywood, which says a lot about his big ego.
Just like fellow Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet has no original members left but is somehow still going. Their latest album was released in 2010, and they announced a new album scheduled for a 2024 release.
It's a shame that they're still together. Their newer music is not as good. I remember when their music was more authentic and rock-oriented. Albums like Songs About Jane and It Won't Be Soon Before Long were great. It wasn't until their pop era, especially from 2017 to the present, that their music quality declined.
If I were one of the other guys from Adam Levine's crew, I'd want to leave immediately. Maroon 5 is nothing but a cash cow that had its image tarnished because of Adam Levine's cheating scandal.
