Top 10 Best Bands of All Time
Top ten bands of all time. Ok, it can be anything as long as it's a group of people and not a solo singer. This band is simply the greatest of all time! Although they weren't the most talented group ever, they maximized the talent they did have to create something beautiful. John and Paul are one of, if not the best, songwriting duos of all time. They contrasted each other greatly, but that didn't stop them from making fantastic collaborations.
They were both excellent as solo artists, but never reached the heights they achieved as a group. Also, they were the most successful band to transcend the genre of music they started off with. They went from being a great "rock band" to an amazing band, period. Lastly, people of all ages enjoy their music, young and old. This makes them even more lovable as they appeal to a much wider audience.
The Beatles and Queen were and will forever be no doubt the greatest bands ever. They are way better than Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. Although I like both bands the same amount, The Beatles are more influential and they are the best selling music artist. Sure, Freddie was the best vocalist and rock singer of all time and Brian was a better guitarist while Roger was a better drummer but Queen didn't make as much influence as The Beatles did. Also The Beatles are slightly more popular. Some people ask why The Beatles are higher than Queen or Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd and well this is your answer. I saw someone say that some modern bands are way better than The Beatles but who? No other bands or singers can change music and influence other music artists as much as what The Beatles did. The Beatles changed music forever.
All of the bands on this list are amazing, but I think Queen is a little better. All the band members were so different, but they all went together well. Queen always has music to offer for every one of your moods, and they never disappoint. I can't think of one song of theirs that was even just a little bit bad.
Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, Brian May, and John Deacon felt so connected with the audience. I've never been to one of their concerts, and I wasn't even alive when they performed. But even when I watch videos of their concerts, it feels as if I'm there. I haven't watched Bohemian Rhapsody, and I'm still in love with Queen. This just goes to show that people nowadays don't only love Queen because of the movies. Again, all the bands on this list are amazing and have so much to offer, but in my opinion, Queen has just a bit more.
You can't even consider The Beatles as a band. They are all just pop. Queen, on the other hand, is the best band of all time. They have so many great songs. "We Are the Champions" is very inspirational, while "We Will Rock You" gets you pumped up. And don't get me started on "Bohemian Rhapsody". That song is a masterpiece. It is rated on this website as the best song of all time. Freddie Mercury, again on this website, has been in first place on lists like "Best Singers of All Time" and "Most Unique Voices." So why aren't they at the top? I'll tell you why. The Beatles are the most overrated bunch of posers ever. Queen should be at the top, and no one can tell me otherwise.
This is, without a doubt, the best band in my opinion. It seems like they actually take more time to make amazing music for their fans. Their albums are all unique, and all the songs in the albums are unique as well. There is no other band like Pink Floyd.
I'm confused why Queen is above Pink Floyd. While Queen is amazing, with masterpiece songs that are iconic, I don't see them being above Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, or The Beatles. Heck, even Black Sabbath is above them in my opinion. I agree that The Beatles are number one, but Pink Floyd definitely deserves number two. The only band that's close is Led Zeppelin. Otherwise, Pink Floyd absolutely trashes other bands.
The thing about Pink Floyd, in my eyes, beyond the fact that they made killer songs individually, is that they absolutely mastered the concept album. Most of that credit goes to Roger Waters, but still.
Name any other band that not only released four albums in six years but also had all of those four albums be considered some of the greatest albums ever made. You don't see it happen anywhere else. You just don't.
Other bands may have more songs that work on their own, and not just in the context of an album, but I have found very little music in any genre that is as powerful and meaningful while still being relevant today, even though the band has been around for over fifty years.
I'm voting for Zeppelin over the two bands above them, Queen and The Beatles, based on the fact that they proved themselves to be incredibly capable both in the studio and, more importantly, live. This is unlike The Beatles, who were mainly a studio band. Each member was equally important to the sound of the band, unlike Queen, who had most of the attention focused on Freddie Mercury. Zeppelin was so good because of the incredible interplay between John Bonham and John Paul Jones (just look at Dazed and Confused live), the soaring vocals of Robert Plant, and the otherworldly guitar skills of Jimmy Page. Page excelled as both a rhythm player and a great 'feel' lead player, as well as a crazy shredder. But if one of those sections were removed, the whole band would have fallen apart, as they did after Bonham's death. It is for these reasons that I vote Led Zeppelin as the greatest band ever.
Their best works include songs like Paint it Black, Sympathy for the Devil, Satisfication (Which ranked no. 2 in The Rolling... read more
Better than the Beatles, but with less mainstream pop. Smarter and more real than Led Zeppelin. I'll always love them more than Metallic, AC/DC, and Metallica (most mainstream metal is unlistenable or just bad). Now I have to give them the vote. They are rock by definition: like soul music sped up, or like blues and jazz but with a more modernized fast rage. I'll always love the truest rock band ever made.
Explain to me why Metallica is higher than the Rolling Stones. These guys are second-best, other than the Beatles. The Stones are awesome. Queen wasn't even that popular for its time. Suck it up. Street Fighting Man, Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, Ruby Tuesday - those are some of the best songs ever. Suck it up. The Stones are great. And if you think they are bad, then YOU ARE CRAZY. The Rolling Stones are awesome.
This list is a joke! Even Paul McCartney has said that The Stones are the best! These other groups wouldn't exist if not for The Stones! Only Elvis had more influence on rock 'n' roll than The Stones! Four of the top five selling music tours of all time, including numbers 1 and 2! Enough said. They really don't need defending. I just wish people would quit making ridiculous, uneducated, childish lists like this. It's very insulting to the legends, even though they'll never pay attention to stuff like this. It's a disgrace!
Metallica is the best band ever. Just listen to their discography. Even their weakest albums, like St. Anger or Reload, are great to me. They are a big inspiration and got me into heavy metal music. When I first heard Master of Puppets, I was blown away by their sound. They may not be the fastest, heaviest, or most complex band, but their songs are so well-structured that their albums are very memorable and iconic, especially their first five. To me, Ride The Lightning and Justice are their best and are among the greatest metal records of all time. Amazing band.
Greatest band ever! Their music is spellbinding (they've created some of the greatest musical works ever), and they have never ceased to amaze me. I haven't listened to St. Anger or Lulu, but I've heard songs from the rest of their albums, and I've never disliked a single one (even their newer stuff, which is on par with their older material). Metallica is amazing, and I think they are much better than bands like the Beatles (incredibly overrated and pretty generic, although I have a friend who loves them), Led Zeppelin (the singer's voice is aggravating), and even Queen, even though Queen is great. Long live the metal and some of the music kings! People who don't know them (i.e., pretty much every kid in every school I went to) need to hear them. They are masters of puppets (😜, also the second greatest song of all time) and masters of music.
The band was comprised of Kurt Cobain (Vocals, Guitar), Dave Grohl (Drums) and Krist Novoselic (Bass).

Nirvana. What more do I need to say? They are, or were, so awesome - my favorite band ever, the main thing I listen to. Kurt was truly talented. I'm sure he still would be if he were alive today.
Yes, I may be a teenager, but my opinion still matters. Kurt Donald Cobain is one of the major influences in my life. Kurt said that people read too much into his music and try to make it something it's not, but true Nirvana fans don't need an explanation of what certain things in his music mean. We just know that when we listen to it, we are at home and have a place to fit in.
You could say that The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are true figures in rock, but Nirvana not only showed people the good in this rebellion of music, but it also showed heart, realism, and passion. Yes, Queen and Zeppelin produce powerful and loud music, but Nirvana was one of the first bands to deal with personal problems like sadness and depression. It's not for everyone, but everyone should at least know and respect this band.
Green Day should be in the top ten. They have songs in many different genres, such as Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Alternative Rock, Power Pop, Garage Rock, Acoustic, Ska, and even Screamo. Tre Cool is probably one of the best drummers on Earth, and Mike Dirnt is likely one of the best bassists ever. Billie Joe's lyrics were good at first, but they just keep getting better and better. His vocals are also improving over time.
Some of his guitar solos, especially from the early albums, are absolutely insane. They have sold over 75 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. 'Dookie' is certified as diamond in the USA, and it is the best-selling punk album and also the 57th best-selling album of all time. They have stood the test of time, as they have been together for 30 years.
They are also one of the most influential bands ever, inspiring many other artists such as Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Lady Gaga, Busted, McFly, Steve Rushton, Zara Larsson, and The 1975. They truly are one of the biggest and best bands in history.
They managed to climb back to the number-one band after their lead singer died. It's the 2000s, and people still listen to them and use their songs in commercials. AC/DC is the hard rock counterpart to The Beatles.
In my opinion, the ranking is 1. The Beatles, 2. AC/DC, 3. Queen/Led Zeppelin, 4. The Rolling Stones, 5. Pink Floyd.
Let's be real: which bands will people continue to listen to, and how many iconic songs have they made? Having a spot at number nine is a joke. Are you telling me that the number-one hard rock band isn't higher? Come on, guys, are you for real voting Green Day above AC/DC?
What is AC/DC doing here? Last time I checked, they were at number 5. If it were my website, I'd make them number 1. Their music just gets you pumped up and puts you in the rock and roll mood. AC/DC forever!
AC/DC has stuck with me since I was very little. It might have been the first rock band I ever heard, and I have loved it ever since.
Come on, guys. Axl Rose can sing in 5 octaves. Name another singer with that talent. Also, they are still performing and still sound great.
How is it possible for Tokio Hotel to be in 2nd place? For God's sake, Guns N' Roses are without any doubt the best band ever! Everyone knows Sweet Child O'Mine and November Rain, not to mention Welcome To The Jungle. Every time I hear Slash's solos, I go to heaven.
Guns N' Roses are hard to explain. They give you a sense of what was and what is to come. Although they are no longer together, they will forever continue to enrich people's lives.
The Newcomers
Okay, every fan of any kind of rock music (metal and alternative included) should have every rock band ahead of One Direction.
Easily the most influential prog band, Neil Peart is insane, Geddy Lee is insane, and Alex Lifeson is extremely underrated and incredibly talented. None of these other bands, aside from Led Zeppelin, can even comprehend and capture the skill and heart that goes into each of their songs. They are one of the very few bands to keep the same lineup for over 40 years.
It's not just Neil Peart who gets all the credit. The amazing solos are by Lifeson, and Lee also contributes incredible talents.
This is the band that got me into metal. By far, it's the best metal band out there. You'll want to listen to this! The lyrics are great.
Steve Harris and his galloping bass-playing style are fantastic, and he's a good captain for Team Maiden. Bruce Dickinson excels in vocals. Adrian Smith is known for his melodic guitar-playing style, and Dave Murray's solos are exceptional. Janick Gers delivers good heavy guitar work and is great live, dancing and kicking around. Nicko McBrain is also a superb drummer.
In other words, it's very difficult to find a band that has been making music for the past 45 years and can match Maiden's caliber. Up the Irons!
Iron Maiden is not only the greatest metal band of all time but also the greatest band, period! No other group has released so many good albums, has so many amazing songs, and is so incredible live. If you have never experienced Maiden, do yourself a favor and listen to their incredible catalogue of music. You will not be disappointed! Up the Irons!
Linkin Park's sound and lyrics are very powerful. They reflect the genuineness of not only their own experiences but also their audiences. The combined talent of men in different genres has created one of the most beautiful diversities in music that I have ever witnessed. I believe they should easily be in the top 3.
Linkin Park is THE rock band leading the digital age. They are the only rock band today to be in the top 20 of "artists with the most Facebook followers" and are the biggest rock band on YouTube.
Love them or hate them, Linkin Park is still going strong and is leaving behind a huge legacy. Only time will tell, but this band has major potential to be remembered as one of the greatest.
What! You've got to be kidding. Linkin Park ON 7TH? This band deserves to be on top. They are the best rock band the world has seen or will ever see. Their music is awesome, and their lyrics are always so realistic and wonderful.
The members of the band’s original lineup consisted of John Petrucci (Guitar), John Myung (Bass) and Mike Portnoy (Drums). The band had multiple keyboardists and singers, but as of and since 1991, the band's... read more
If you like Rush, you should give them a listen. They have a similar vibe but, at the same time, feel really original and amazing!
I have to say, I'm surprised they made it to the top 40. However, they deserve to be in the top 5.
Top 5! Easily! All 16 albums are amazing.
The band's members are Anthony Kiedis (Vocals), Michael "Flea" Balzary (Bass), Chad Smith (Drums) and numerous guitarists, most well-known being John Frusciante.
The band is among the most well-known funk bands in music history with albums like "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" and "Californification"... read more
My favorite band ever. Flea is an amazing bassist, Anthony is a great singer, Josh and John are great guitarists, and Chad is a pretty good drummer. How is this below One Direction?
Basically the only good band that hasn't broken up and is still good to this day.
My #1. Grew up listening to them non-stop. Funky, catchy, great riffs and basslines. The best.
For 50 years, this band has reinvented themselves through music. It's truly amazing that they've lasted this long together and are still continuing to tour.
Aerosmith needs to be higher on the list. They are the "Bad Boys from Boston" and they rule! They have so many great albums and hits. They are a rock legend. Definitely one of the best and most influential bands in the world! Aerosmith forever!
One of the greatest rock bands ever. They're talented, have good songs, and put on great live performances.
As is the case with all truly great bands, U2 has been different but nevertheless brilliant in all phases of its existence. Its popularity is both trans-temporal and trans-cultural. It seems obvious by now that some of the band's best songs will be relevant and enjoyed for many generations to come.
U2 consistently has the highest-grossing and largest sold-out arena world tours every time they put out an album. Their Zooropa tour in the 90s was massive and was the third largest behind The Rolling Stones, just based on gross receipts. To say that they are not in the top 5 biggest bands of all time (yes, this includes the 80s and 90s) is just ridiculous.
Rarely does a group combine artistry and politics as gracefully as U2. Certainly not all 50+ groups that are ahead of this one. U2 will always be listened to and always respected.
I love Imagine Dragons. They've been my favorite band for over a year. Their lyrics are relatively deep, and the music is catchy. However, I don't think they deserve to be on this list, not even if they had kept the same sound and meaningful lyrics of their first two albums.
They are my favorite band. I love all of their songs, especially from the Smoke and Mirrors album. They have such deep and emotional songs. The only bands that come close to them (among modern bands) are FOB and probably Twenty One Pilots.
One of my favorite bands. I'm pretty disconnected from my family and depressed because my dad died, but I deny it when my mom asks me and never get help. Imagine Dragons helps me so much, and along with Twenty One Pilots, they actually bring me closer to my family and relatives, and we bond because of it.
How the heck is Coldplay above The Who? Name five Coldplay songs now. Now name five Who songs. I can: Baba O'Riley, My Generation, Behind Blue Eyes, Pinball Wizard, Who Are You. And that isn't even getting into their other stuff. Coldplay had Livin' la Vida and Kind of Paradise. That's it.
Baba O'Riley, My Generation, I Can See for Miles, Pinball Wizard - these songs are all legendary rock songs and are made by one of the best bands in the world: The Who. They even inspired Nick Mason, the drummer of Pink Floyd, to start learning drums. That's how good they are.
Anyone who says The Who are an overrated and horrible band is at the same level of intelligence as a dead rat!
The band became mainstream after improving after their debut album got panned. In 1978, Osbourne was fired and replaced with former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Who went to release... read more
Black Sabbath is one of the most influential bands in rock history and one of the bands that inspired many of the bands we have today. And the original singer, Ozzy Osbourne, is not called the "Prince of Darkness" or the "Godfather of Heavy Metal" for nothing. They should be much higher. They rock and they are the Godfather of Metal! Long live Black Sabbath!
Damn, a band that brings you back to the 70s as if you are in Birmingham with them, performing witchcraft. They are real hard hitters that leave you wanting more. Ozzy's vocals, Iomi's guitar, Butler's bass, and Bill's drums are all components that make up the iconic and explosive yet beautiful sound of Sabbath.
Sabbath should be number 1! It didn't matter if it was Ozzy or Dio singing. This band was consistently good.
What! Some of these bands above this one aren't even that good. Rush only had Tom Sawyer, and Iron Maiden only had The Trooper. This makes no sense. This band should at least be in the top 10. By the way, Nirvana is so overrated.
One of the best rock bands of the 80-90 era. Their earlier albums sound so fresh even today.
I love their music. They are one of the few bands from the '80s that remained successful in the '90s and '00s.
Foo Fighters is a continuation of the former band Nirvana. It is a modern version of the band. David Grohl is also a role model of mine.
Oh, come on! Foo Fighters are way too low here!
Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan (Drums), their most notable drummer, passed away in 2009, being temporarily replaced by Mike Portnoy, who was replaced... read more
Avenged Sevenfold gives you the will to be weird. You may have different styles and things to say than others, but that's normal. Don't be afraid to be yourself. Avenged Sevenfold, along with Nirvana, encourages this. I mean, where do you think artists these days got their inspiration?
These guys don't care what other people think about them or their music. It's addicting. They're my favorite band personally and should be at #1.
Best band ever. I love this band because the guys are best friends first.
Rivers Cuomo could be one of the greatest vocalists I've ever heard. Their weird music is awesome!
It's hilarious how bands like Weezer, Oasis, and The Beach Boys are behind Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5. It's a shame.
How did the Bee Gees, a bunch of girly-voiced singers, beat this amazing band?
22? How is this so far down? Radiohead isn't for this world. The human species doesn't deserve Radiohead's music. It's too good for us. Radiohead conveys emotions you had no idea existed, does things you had no idea could be done, and can make anything and everything work with their genius talent.
Also, look at how well the band members have aged! In A Moon Shaped Pool, you can't even tell that the members of the band are almost 50 years old. They haven't lost any skill or talent over the years, and if anything, they've learned. If I had to pick my Desert Island Disc, it would no doubt be a Radiohead album. Even Pablo Honey has songs like Blow Out that are better and more unique than pretty much anything musicians are doing today. Radiohead is definitely one of the most unique bands in the world, and they're easily the best at it.
I can only think of one band that has had more impact than Radiohead in music creation and the industry: The Beatles. These guys are out of this world.
