Movie Review - Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
MegaSoulhero So after the success of Beauty and the Beast, Disney thought it would be a good idea to make a sequel! And they decided to make it a Christmas movie! Was it as good as the original film? Nope! Not even close! In fact, it's pretty bad! And let me tell you why!First of all, this isn't really a sequel. It's more of a midquel. It takes place in between the events of the previous movie. So the characters are still under a curse. In this movie, Belle wants to celebrate Christmas at the castle. However, the Beast hates Christmas because it's the day that the curse happened. But Belle believes that bringing Christmas to the castle will help him cheer up. We are also introduced to the villain of the movie, Forte, played by Tim Curry. He was a pipe organ player who got turned into a pipe organ due to the curse. But since he doesn't want to change back into a human, he tries to keep Belle and Beast from falling in love. Honestly, this film is a huge disappointment. A Beauty and the Beast film that takes place around Christmas sounded nice, but the execution wasn't very good. My main problem would have to be the story. It was very bland and not very interesting. I also feel like the scenes that focus on Forte distract us from what the movie is really about.
In the original film, Belle didn't tolerate Beast's being a jerk all the time and actually stood up to him. Here, she just seems to take his abuse! And speaking of which, Beast is just downright hateful in this movie! There's a scene where Belle tries to get him a Christmas tree, and after almost drowning, Beast saves her and throws her in the dungeon even though she was trying to do something nice for him! He went from being a jerk to just being cruel! I thought Forte was a pretty cool character though. Tim Curry's vocal performance is amazing and the design of the character is awesome! He's made with CGI and for the year it came out, it looks impressive! There's also a character named Angelique! She's a tiny angel and honestly, I really like her! There are also songs in this film. The only song I remember is "Stories". It's actually a pretty good song! The way Belle sings it is just perfect! The other songs aren't very memorable and aren't really that good. I felt like they tried too hard with them and ultimately failed. The animation in this movie is pretty decent for a direct to dvd Disney sequel! But you can still tell it was made on the budget of a direct to dvd Disney sequel. Still looks better than Belle's Magical World! Oh we'll get to that later! Another thing this movie was missing was good humor. The humor in the first movie was brilliant! But here there seems to be a lack of it.
This movie isn't entirely horrible, but I still didn't really like it. As a sequel to one of the best Disney films of all time, it was very disappointing. There are some good things about it and some bad things about it. I still kind of recommend it as a Christmas film to watch each year during the holidays, but if you want to see a good Beauty and the Beast sequel, this isn't a movie for you. And now I have to review Belle's Magical World. Pray for me.
