Top 10 Best Video Games of 2008
Before we jump into the voting fray, let's take a step back and remember just what 2008 looked like in the video game market. The year was a spectacular time for gaming enthusiasts, with an impressive array of consoles vying for our attention. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii were all well-established by this time, offering a plethora of gaming experiences that catered to casual and hardcore gamers alike. The handheld market was also booming, with the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable (PSP) providing gamers with the luxury of playing on-the-go.One of the most notable aspects of 2008 was the rise of indie games, as digital distribution platforms like Steam made it easier for smaller developers to share their creative visions with the world. This year saw the release of some truly iconic indie titles that have since become classics in their own right. Meanwhile, the traditional big-name studios continued to pump out their own blockbuster releases, ensuring there was never a dull moment in the gaming world.
Now, back to the task at hand. It's time to cast your votes for the games that truly defined 2008 and left a lasting impression on us all.
When you're thinking about the best video games of 2008, consider the impact each game had on the industry, the fun factor, the quality of the storytelling, and, of course, the gameplay itself. Remember those sleepless nights spent playing with friends or engrossed in a single-player campaign? The adrenaline rush from overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges? The heartbreak when your favorite character met their untimely demise? These are the moments that helped define the year in gaming.
Has one of the best stories of all time. Set the graphical benchmark. Plus, its NYC atmosphere is really faithful.
This game changed lives. It's considered one of the greatest video games of all time, though not the best GTA.
Already a legendary game franchise and one of the most successful too. Not to mention influential. Grand Theft Auto rules the game world.
While not being as good as Melee, I will admit, I actually miss playing this game. Plus, it was the first Super Smash Bros. game I played.
Easily the best and easily the best fighting game other than Melee. Sorry, but Melee's better, but this game is still better than Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, and even Street Fighter. And those are some awesome games too.
Had lots of content. I loved this game.
This game has an exponential amount of variety. With a realistic ragdoll engine, extremely varied battle sounds, a stress factor that affects your actions in combat, DualShock 3 that brings you even further into the battle, and much more.
I do see why Grand Theft Auto would be pretty cool, but since I got MGS4, I haven't put GTA4 back in the PlayStation.
Brilliant. The only game that I've ever deeply felt in the place of the character while playing. It immerses you completely. 10/10, the greatest game I've ever played, and I've played my fair share of video games, from NES to the Wii U. This is gaming's magnum opus.
My second favorite game of all time (after Skyrim, of course)! Too bad New Vegas was such a mess. Great open world, nice scenario, and an awesome variety of weapons and enemies. I call it a masterpiece also because of the post-apocalyptic environment, which completely immersed me.
This game should be number two or number one. It is the best game of 2008, in my opinion. It is great!
OK, this franchise has many better games, but I love its graphics, and the story isn't that bad. It was interesting to see MK fighters against Batman, Superman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Joker, etc.
I can finally kick Batman's butt!
The Newcomers
More or less Call of Duty if it was set during the American Civil War.
It's a video game dear to my childhood heart, and boy, I loved creative mode and the levels a lot.
Possibly the greatest first-person free running game of all time, with great graphics and one of the best storylines ever. Should really be in the Top 10.
This should be number one, without a doubt. I love GTA IV, but Saints Row 2 is better in many aspects.
This should be in the top 20 at least. It's my favorite Mega Man game. Great visuals, fun bosses, and holy crap, it gets hard. The only reason it's my #18 favorite game of the year is because 2008 was one of the best years for gaming.
