Best Fallout 4 Companions

Fallout 4 is a great game and here are some great companions in the game.
The Top Ten
Nick Valentine

Really like this guy. He's witty and just badass. It's great having him along when you need to hack terminals higher than your level or you're just too lazy to hack them. He's also good with lockpicks as well.

Best companion of all time. He can hack MASTER TERMINALS! I will never change him unless I find another one who can also hack master terminals.

He's the most original, unique, well-written companion in the game.

Dogmeat

Man's best friend, even in the wasteland. Do anything, and the dog won't judge you. Dogmeat is especially useful too. He can trap enemies by biting their arms or legs, and you can finish them off. Dogmeat is a great virtual pet, I guess you could call him that. I dunno.

He would be better if he could fight alongside a companion, but they decided to cut that. Don't ask me why.

Dogmeat can have the advantages of both lone wanderer and companionship.

Piper Wright

She's not the best in a firefight, but I don't really care. My guy has ballistic weave MKV over a full set of heavy polymer combat armor (minus the helmet, that's a ballistic weave MKV trilby hat), so it's like being in constant T-45 power armor without actually being in T-45. She's very vocal in any environment. Most interactive companion. She's like a way cooler version of Nick. I don't like Nick. Dunno why.

All other companions are non-human robots, Super Mutants, Ghouls, or veterans and mercenaries. Piper is just a journalist. She looks cute and sounds cute. Piper is bae. Piper is love. Piper is life.

Codsworth

So many memories with this guy. At the start, when I was terrified by ghouls and any step would wake them in that city, I was stuck on some stairs. He went ahead with his flamethrower and buzzsaw and saved me, with no help needed. Sure, he judges, but this robot has more character than anyone else - he's family.

He's funny, has a British accent, actually calls you by your name, and is really tough! Also, Dogmeat sucks. His AI is dumb. He is the dumbest, slowest, most useless dog I've ever met... but hey, he's a dog.

This Mr. Handy robot has been waiting for you for 200 years. That makes him loyal as hell! Also, he's pretty tough. He's almost as tough as a Mr. Gutsy. He also gives you purified water and sometimes tells corny jokes.

Paladin Danse

Strong offense and defense. Interesting backstory and situation. Hot, manly dude you can romance. The downside is that he's too devoted to the Brotherhood of Steel, but it's understandable, as they are the only possible real memory he ever had.

What's more awesome than a guy in power armor with a laser rifle? A guy in T-60 power armor with a laser rifle and in the Brotherhood of Steel.

Just an absolute tank with a Gatling laser.

John Hancock

Hancock has the apocalyptic attitude of helping those in need and killing those who need killing, which I like. Plus, Hancock has a comedic personality that makes him cooler than Deacon, and I like Deacon. But what really makes him cool is that he isn't characterless and obnoxious like Strong and Preston.

The most badass ghoul ever! He instantly greets you by stabbing a guy giving you trouble!

Huh... I never thought I'd be sexually attracted to a ghoul before. Interesting.

Cait

I feel she is kind of overrated. I mean, I don't hate her. She is definitely a sympathetic character. She has a tragic backstory, and I can see why people would love her. However, then we get to her attitude, which makes her hard to like at the same time. I like her, but she wouldn't be my first choice.

A psychopath who will destroy anything in her path.

Cait is the best. Cait all the way!

MacCready

Tough choice between him, Deacon, and Hancock, but MacCready is the best companion. He might not have the best morals, but he's great in combat and so sweet after romancing him.

Great companion. I like the side quests that come with him, and his personality is very likable.

Great personality, looks badass in a tux, and is overall a perfect companion.

Curie

Love this girl, especially when she becomes a Synth and is so confused about herself. It's like having a daughter!

She is just so adorable! Then, when she becomes a Synth, you fall in love with her!

She has a sexy accent, despite being a Synth.

Deacon

He is the most mysterious character, and I love him. We don't know if he's a synth or a human. We don't know his true origin and backstory. We don't know how he changes disguises so damn quick. That's what I love about him. I love his humor too.

How is Deacon below Preston? Deacon is my third favorite.

The Newcomers

? Mama Murphy
? Porter Gage

I think he is essential if you want to play as a villain.

Great character with a great backstory. He makes Nuka World better.

The Contenders
Preston Garvey

If he didn't keep nagging you about settlements, he would be higher on my list. I do love his boy scout attitude. He believes in peace. However, he's not my number one because, even though a peace-minded boy scout companion is good, you have to show brutality in this war-torn world. He hates everything you do that's brutal and taking chems when they actually help you in battle.

I'd vote in this poll, but I hear that another settlement needs my help.

An epic Minuteman. He's also the leader of the Minutemen.

Strong

Strong has his moments. There are times when he can be hilarious, and sometimes it's pretty cool to have a tank-sized beast companion along the road. But most of the time, he can make me feel very uncomfortable.

A dim-witted yet useful Super Mutant. He can destroy everything in his path.

Strong is the funniest companion I've ever seen.

X6-88
Old Longfellow

How is he so low on the list? Unlike some companions (X6-88, Preston), he has an intriguing backstory. His companion quest outdoes all four of the others. I mean, what's not to like about a rough character like him? He is definitely one of the highlights of the Far Harbor DLC.

He may be DLC, but he is really useful.

Ada

The ONLY one who doesn't criticize you for carrying junk.
