Top 10 Most Ironic Things About Certain Video Games and Video Game Franchises

The Top Ten
  1. The Final Fantasy franchise got its first major game during 1987 and still has not ended yet

Despite the fact that it is an utterly pretentious and sloppy game series that is generally "pretty good" or "impressively decent" at best, as far as the objective quality of RPGs goes.

    It's called FINAL Fantasy.

  2. New Super Mario Bros. is incredibly exactly the same old Super Mario Bros.

Or, if you want to be more accurate, the same old SMB3.

It does add the Mega Mushroom, though.

    With one exception: the Koopalings.

  3. One of the Crash Bandicoot franchise's biggest strengths is its villains, yet one of its biggest weaknesses is its boss battles

Quite possibly the franchise's biggest examples of this so far are these three:

    1. Dr. Neo Cortex is an utterly amazing villain who has nearly all of the best lines in the franchise, yet all three of the original Crash Trilogy's final boss fights against him, especially Crash 2's Cortex Chase, absolutely suck, while Mind Over Mutant's final boss fight against him pretty much literally is just "mash the attack button(s) until you win."

    2. N. Brio is downright hilarious in Mind Over Mutant, but he also is a downright pathetically weak and forgettable boss in Mind Over Mutant, to say the least. Even Crash 1's boss fight against him easily is better than MOM's. In It's About Time, he continues to be surprisingly funny but basically has an exact copy of Crash 1's aforementioned boss fight against him.

    3. N. Tropy is astonishingly intimidating in both Crash 3 and IAT, yet he also is an astonishingly lame and easy boss in both of said games, especially in IAT, in which he gets hyped up as if he is going to be an extremely difficult and teamwork-requiring boss but then gets two-hit-killed by exactly one character in one of the lamest ways ever.

  4. The Legend of Zelda franchise mostly is about the legend of Link

No, Link: The Faces of Evil does NOT count as a Zelda game.

  5. The Metroid franchise advertises itself as "a franchise that was made for hardcore gamers" but often is even easier than the Zelda franchise and sometimes is even easier than the Kirby franchise

Super Metroid's 19 Health Tanks and Zero Mission's bosses both immediately come to mind here, as do Corruption's Hyper Beam and Fusion's absurdly fragile enemies.

  6. The Sonic franchise advertises itself as "Mario for cool dudes" but actually is more like "Mario for idiots who think that a game looking cool is more important than a game being fun to play"

Even when you compare it to Crash Bandicoot, this franchise largely is a total joke.

For one thing, CB actually is highly capable of competing with the average quality level of Mario games without the help of its fan base, while Sonic absolutely is not.

No, it's a game for anyone who thinks Sonic is better than Mario.

  7. Barely any of Street Fighter II's stages look like actual streets

Ryu's stage is a Japanese castle.

Ken's stage looks like one of New York's immigration docks.

Blanka's stage is a wooden platform in the middle of a jungle.

Guile's stage is an Air Force base.

Dhalsim's stage is an Indian palace.

Zangief's stage is a Russian factory.

Chun-Li's stage surprisingly clearly is an actual street.

    E. Honda's stage is a Japanese bath house.

Vega's stage looks like a fancy restaurant.

Balrog's stage has an actual street in its background.

Sagat's stage is the extremely old-looking resting place of a giant Buddha statue.

Cammy's stage is an English castle.

Fei Long's stage is a Chinese martial arts arena.

Dee Jay's stage is a Jamaican beach.

    T. Hawk's stage might be an actual street.

    M. Bison's stage is a Thai temple.

  8. Another Metroid 2 Remake was released before Metroid: Samus Returns and also is massively more accurate of a Metroid II remake than Samus Returns despite it being fan-made while Samus Returns is official

  9. The Advance Wars franchise features some of the least "advanced" enemy AI in its genre

Outside of Days of Ruin, at least.

  10. Naughty Dog's Uncharted franchise never really does explore any "uncharted" territory when it comes to being different from standard action games

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

Gameplay-wise, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time mostly is a remake of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, not Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

  13. ?

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time was released roughly 22 years after Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped but actually was released roughly one year after Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

  14. The Contenders
  15. The titular main protagonist of the Mega Man franchise is basically a little boy in his Classic form and even has a pretty average physical size in his X form

Even in the original Japanese version of the franchise, he still is a Metal Man whose name is Rock Man.

  16. Wario Land 4 largely is easier than Wario Land 3 despite the fact that Wario has infinite health in Wario Land 3 but does not have infinite health in Wario Land 4

  17. The title of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has barely anything to do with the game itself and comes across as an intentional joke about Zelda's fan/hater base

Well, you are exploring the wild.

  18. With the exception of spinoffs and Halo Infinite, each Halo game has less and less to do with actual Halos

  19. The characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise almost never actually die without being revived after doing so

  20. Barely any of the levels in the Super Mario Galaxy franchise look (or are) bigger than "a couple of giant pebbles in space"

  21. In the original Japanese version of Mega Man, Rockman actually is a metal man

  22. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin has the best AI in the Advance Wars franchise but is the overall easiest game in said franchise
