Top 10 Best Mystic Messenger Characters

Mystic Messenger by Cheritz is a 2016 otome game released for mobile phones. It was one of the most popular games of that year.

Please note: Minor spoilers may appear in the comments.

The Top Ten
  1. 707 / Seven / Luciel Choi

    1. I love redheads.

    2. His personality clicks with mine the best.

    3. Everybody's all about him being funny, and yes, I agree. But damn, all the things he went through just for his brother, only to find out ten years later that his brother is still suffering? The lad needs love, and all he keeps doing is hiding his loneliness behind that joker mask.

A tip on getting the good end on his route is to regularly acknowledge and openly recognize his commitment to the RFA. That's what he does! He's done so much, and no matter which route, he always prioritizes others over himself. Everyone in the RFA pretty much dismisses him. In Jumin's route, when they were at the enemy headquarters, he told Yoosung to run away without him if anything happened. It's likely a lie when he said he had an escape route planned. In his own route, he made sure that the player keeps her distance because he knows himself as "dangerous."

    4. I would seriously fly to the moon with this guy.

  2. Zen / Hyun Ryu

I ended up on Zen's route for my first playthrough, and I am honestly glad I did. He's a sincere, lovable guy who just wants to be happy with the player. His narcissism is mild enough to not be too offputting, and his use of it to cope with his own self-consciousness is incredibly realistic and honestly makes him more sympathetic.

As cliche as his relationship with the player gets at times, it's hardly noticeable with how naturally it's woven into the story and interactions. He is an adorable, loyal-as-hell sweetheart with admirable dedication to his fans, the player, and his dream. He deserves to be just as happy as he wants the player to be. Because he is a precious cinnamon roll who we adore.

And I made it all the way through the entire comment without even mentioning his fabulous hair, excessively kissable face, and nosebleed-inducing abs!... Dang it.

  3. Jumin Han

10/10, you could totally read the Urban Dictionary with him. Loved him after learning some of his values and how supportive, insightful, and rational he can be. Wasn't interested in him at first, but he turned out to be my favorite.

Him projecting "x" onto his cat, his drinking habit, workaholism, starting impulsive cat projects, keeping his feelings inside, and his parents' issues. God, it really hurt me seeing his loneliness and how insensitive the RFA can be to him.

Such a different but also relatable-in-a-way character. Would totally marry. But his NE makes Jumin better justice with him being out of his comfort zone. Cheritz, stop making his character so centered towards materialism, for goodness' sake.

  4. Yoosung Kim

The innocent one of the group, Yoosung Kim has never had a girlfriend before. He is a gamer and plays his favorite game, LOLOL, nonstop. He is still in college, but his gaming life makes his grades suffer. A lot.

His route is overall very sweet. First love turning into eternal love. Just remember this: you are you and don't let Yoosung or anyone else say otherwise.

It is recommended to play his route after Zen's because this one has a bit more spoilers for other routes.

I haven't finished yet, but Yoosung is my favorite so far! He is literally a puppy. Cute, innocent, and loyal. That purity made it that much hotter when flirting with him and getting to see his romantic/possessive side. His Rika obsession was annoying, but it made sense. Also, I think it represented well how many people have a hard time separating their past relationships from their new ones.

His route made me cry, but I was so happy we got married and he recovered! Hehe. Even though we marry most of them, his hit different. I also just find myself relating to a lot of what he says and his worries, so that's probably also a reason.

  5. Unknown

Terrifying at first, but I couldn't help but be desperate to understand him better. I get so sad seeing the pain and torture he endured his whole life. I don't pity him, though. He has a lot of strength and love. It's just been twisted. Untangling that is hard but worth it.

Unknown is the person responsible for bringing the MC to the RFA. Without a doubt, he is the antagonist of the game. While I will not reveal his true identity, it is definitely unexpected.

An interesting character through and through. He, too, deserves a route.

  6. Jaehee Kang

The only other girl in the RFA, Jaehee Kang is Jumin's chief assistant. Jaehee can come off as cold and stern, but in reality, she is just an overworked, stressed employee who barely gets any sleep.

Jaehee is also a fan of musicals and a big fan of Zen. But be aware: she is not a rival for Zen's heart. She respects him as an actor.

Her route is the most different, not just because she is a girl. Her route can be seen as both romantic and platonic. Jaehee says many things that suggest she views MC as more than just a friend. However, LGBT is a very iffy topic in South Korea, so it is pretty much left up to the players whether or not Jaehee and MC are in love. But Jaehee said it herself, "Love between a man and a woman is beautiful... but... a friendship between two women can be just as powerful."

Her route should be the third and final Casual Story route played because it works as a great gateway into Jumin's character, whose route is the next suggested.

  7. V

V is by far one of the most underrated characters in Mystic Messenger. I say this because many people may view him as "boring" or "bland" just because he doesn't immediately profess his love for the MC in his route. In reality, though, V is actually an extremely complex character who, yes, does have faults, but he recognizes them and tries his best to fix them.

So, basically, V deserves all of the love, and literally, anyone can fight me on that. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.

Oh, V. The man who was in love with Rika. The one who never shows up when he is needed.

V is a photographer whose photos are auctioned at the RFA parties. After Rika's death, however, V has been very distant, only talking to 707 and Jumin most of the time.

V's passion for the RFA is undeniable. Though his character may not seem the best, the Secret Endings, in my opinion, redeem him.

One can only hope for Cheritz to give him a route.

  8. Elizabeth 3rd

A shame she doesn't have a route. Cat lovers like Elizabeth as much as Jumin and Seven. We deserve some bonding moments with the queen too.

I'm more of a dog person, but hey, she's cute! And she deserves her own route.

Elizabeth the 3rd is amazing. I wish there was a route for her.

  9. Vanderwood

The one chatroom where he has Seven's phone was one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in a while. He deserves his own route, dang it. And darn me for liking the one non-romanceable character the most.

I love how he secretly cares about Seven a bit, even if he threatens him all the time and acts like he loathes him.

707's maid. Doesn't get much attention until Seven's route but is mentioned throughout the others.

  10. MC / Player

The player of the game. The main center of attention. In other words, you. MC's personality is dictated by your actions and choices, so pick them wisely!

Also, she does not have any eyes. How is she supposed to see all the pretty boys?

MC doesn't have any eyes, and she is the center of attention in the game. She is the one that the players play.

I mean, what am I supposed to say? She's me.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Sally

  13. ?

    Driver Kim

He is a king! Jumin can't live without him because then Jumin would be in jail for his driving skills.

Driver Kim deserves more appreciation, seriously.

  14. The Contenders
  15. Ray

He is just so innocent and cute. I feel terrible about what happens to him, but I love all of his personas equally. He just loves the MC so much it is so adorable. I just want to keep him safe.

I recently finished his route, and honestly, he was cute and perfect for me as Ray. But once he is one with Saeran and has found his peace, he is the best. He is very likable and didn't deserve what he went through.

I have not played his route yet, but from what I've seen, he seems nice with a psychopath side, so why not?

  16. Rika

Rika deserves more attention because, without her, I doubt that Mystic Messenger would have even existed. People do gain sympathy for V when Rika abused him, which makes it more interesting and draws the readers in, normally resulting in hate towards Rika. V and Rika were also the founders of RFA. Without Rika, the MC would not have gotten caught up in this mysterious wonderland and gotten to meet the characters. Give her credit. She also plays a vital role. If people love Saeran even if he abuses others, can't you also love Rika?

First off, I would like to clarify that I'm not saying her actions are justified. They aren't. She did a lot of horrible stuff, regardless of how terrible her past was.

Now, the reason I like Rika is because I think they did a pretty good job on her character. She's a really good villainess, and I enjoyed seeing her story and what really happened.

  17. Lisa

Okay, Lisa is a minor character and deserves way more love. She is honestly so cute. I want one. The cats in this game are so cute. I love them so much. More people need to love this cute feline.

  18. Echo Girl

The one character I'm pretty sure everyone can agree is scum. Zen did not deserve any of the stress you put him through, you self-serving brat!

    Side character in Zen's route.

  19. Saejoong Choi

  20. Mr. Chairman

Jumin's father and a side character in his route.

  21. Sarah

    Side character in Jumin's route.

  22. Glam Choi

    Side character in Jumin's route.
