Top Ten Harmless Shark Species

Sharks are often seen as deadly predators, but these shark species are nothing close to being deadly predators. Actually, all sharks are quite harmless if you don't mess with them, but these sharks are the most harmless
The Top Ten
1 Whale Shark The whale shark is the world's largest living shark as well as the largest living fish. Whale sharks grow up to 45 ft. (13.7 m) long, and can weigh as much as 13 tons (11.6 tonnes). Their mouths alone are a whopping 6 ft. (1.8 m) across-big enough to gulp down three percent of their body weight in food ...read more.

I don't really think it eats anything except plankton and small fish. Hey, he should swallow Plankton from Spongebob Squarepants!

It is 2nd biggest shark ever megalodon is the biggest but this shark is harmless it is very cute though

It might be the most gentle shark ever

The most gentle and beautiful shark.

2 Megamouth Shark Megamouth sharks are a species of deepwater shark. The first one of this species was discovered in 1976 when a U.S. naval ship discovered something very strange caught on its sea anchor. Scientists dubbed it megamouth for obvious reasons. Since then, the megamouth shark has proved to be extremely elusive. Only 63 specimens (as of May 2017) have so far been found, but every one that can be examined reveals new information about megamouths.
3 Goblin Shark

Goblin shark (Mitsukurina owstoni) is a rare species of shark sometimes called the "living fossil" found in depths greater than 100m (adults found deeper than juveniles). It's the only extant member of its genus

This guy may look horrifying, but hey no need to be too afraid of it. It lives at the deep-sea, which is far far away from us

Aww, how adorable. He doesn't look horrifying, give him some love.-Vestalis

4 Sandtiger Shark

Sandtiger shark (Carcharias taurus) is a species of shark found in subtropical and temperate waters

While it's a close relative of the fierce and dangerous great white shark, and the name is similar to the crazy-eating-machine tiger shark (this guy eats ANYTHING, including things that aren't even edible, like tyres, nails, etc), it's harmless to us, despite looking fearsome and being a strong swimmer

5 Wobbegong

Wobbegong is a common name given to 12 species of carpet sharks found in shallow tropical waters of western Pacific Ocean and eastern Indian Ocean (except for the Japanese wobbegong which occurs as far north as Japan)

This thing may not look like a shark at all, but it's a shark. It spends most of its time resting on the sea floor, feeding on little fish. It's harmless, yes, but it's sometimes accidently stepped on or touched by people, which causes it to bite those people

6 Basking Shark

Basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) is a large species of shark, second largest fish species after the whale shark found in temperate oceans

Same thing as the whale shark. A giant, but only eats planktons

7 Blacktip Reef Shark

Blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is a small species of shark found in tropical coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Ocean

Not to be confused with the blacktip shark, which is responsible for some shark attacks (not all of those attacks are fatal though)

I snorkeled with these.

8 School Shark

School shark (Galeorhinus gales) is a species of houndshark found in temperate seas at depths down to about 800m. It;s the only member of its genus

We usually see sharks as a threat, but actually, WE are a threat to this shark. Its other name is soupfin shark, and of course, it got its other name for a reason...

9 Crocodile Shark

Crocodile shark (Pseudocarcharias kamoharai) is a small species of mackerel shark found in tropical waters

That name alone sounds like something that would come out from your nightmares, right? Despite that, this shark is considered harmless to us

10 Whitetip Reef Shark
The Contenders
11 Great White Shark The great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), also known as the white shark, white pointer, or simply great white, is a species of large mackerel shark which can be found in the coastal surface waters of all the major oceans. It is notable for its size, with larger female individuals growing to 6.1 m (20 ft) in length and 1,905–2,268 kg (4,200–5,000 lb) in weight at maturity. However, most are smaller; males measure 3.4 to 4.0 m (11 to 13 ft), and females measure 4.6 to 4.9 m (15 to 16 ft) on average. According to a 2014 study, the lifespan of great white sharks is estimated to be as long as 70 years or more, well above previous estimates, making it one of the longest lived cartilaginous ...read more.
