Top 10 Death Incidents that Have Been Recorded on Video

Here are examples of deaths, murders, and suicides recorded on video.

The Top Ten
  1. Assassination of John F. Kennedy

  2. Suicide of Christine Chubbuck

Christine Chubbuck struggled with severe drug use and depression. On July 5, 1974, she reported on a restaurant shooting that had occurred the previous day. She then stated, "In keeping with the WXLT practice of presenting the most immediate and complete reports of local blood and guts news, TV 40 presents what is believed to be a television first. In living color, an exclusive coverage of an attempted suicide."

She pointed a revolver at her head and shot herself, shocking and horrifying viewers who witnessed it. ABC's station WXLT-TV quickly ran a PSA, followed by a movie. The footage was never seen again, but it has been confirmed that Robert Nelson owns the footage.

A cassette audio recording surfaced on the internet recently (WARNING: DISTURBING): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJmO3TcA-Ug

  3. Murder of Bernd Brandes

Armin Meiwes posted an advertisement to The Cannibal Cafe, for people willing to be eaten by him. Bernd Brandes then answered and met on March 9, 2001. Meiwes recorded the 4-hour tape of Brandes being tortured and cut off. The tape was found in December 2002 when a college student alerted authorities, and Meiwes was arrested.

In 2004, he was convicted of manslaughter and was sentenced to eight years in prison. The next year, his sentence was changed to life in prison since he was found convicted of murder. The tape has never been released to the public.

  4. Suicide of Daniel V. Jones

Jones suffered from HIV and cancer. He planned to commit suicide at the end of April 1998 since he would die soon. It received the attention of televised helicopters, the ones that interrupted "cartoons and kids shows" for this. He burned his own truck and sent his dog there to die. Then he pulled the trigger and shot himself, with so much blood leaking out since the cameras were still rolling. It shocked many viewers, especially children.

The video can be watched on the internet but warning: very disturbing, more so than JFK since the footage is clear. Also, there is a picture of him very shortly after he killed himself. This photo could show up when searching this guy without SafeSearch.

  5. Suicide of R. Budd Dwyer

I feel really bad for this man. On January 22, 1987, he was going to be sentenced to 55 years in prison, even though he was innocent. His suicide is not like most suicides that are depressing. He killed himself because it would feel like it's the end of his life.

In front of many people who were at his press conference, he shot himself in public. Television stations aired the tape uncensored and caused controversy. You can still see it on the internet, but it is very disturbing since it's a closeup of a person shooting himself for real.

  6. Murder of the The Notorious B.I.G.

Christopher George Latore Wallace, born May 21, 1972, better known by his stage name The Notorious B.I.G. (sometimes Biggie Smalls or simply Biggie), was an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. On March 9, 1997, he was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles, California, at the age of only... read more

Steve Irwin was known for The Crocodile Hunter, Croc Files, and The Crocodile Hunter Diaries as a zookeeper and environmentalist. While filming a documentary called Ocean's Deadliest, he unfortunately got pierced in the chest by a stingray barb. The announcement of his death was met with shock and grief by fans. The clip has never been made public.

  8. Death of George Floyd

Oh yeah, thank you for adding this onto the list. I wasn't thinking about the incident while editing this list.

  9. Death of Dawn Brancheau

Brancheau was performing with Tilikum in February 2010. However, she was pulled by the ponytail and died of drowning. The body was released 45 minutes later. The tape has never been made public, and I feel bad for the audience.

  10. Death of J.I. Rodale

While appearing in a segment on The Dick Cavett Show, Rodale started having a fatal heart attack. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The segment never aired again, and it has made the whole episode no longer publicly available.
