The Bassist: The Most Important Part Of A Rock Band?

Pony Ahh, the bassist. You know, the guy who stands in the background while the guitarist completely overshadows him. Unless you are Geddy Lee, nobody will care about you if you are the bassist. But, is the bass playing the most influential part of a song? Well, let's find out!
If you listen to a song, you can BARELY hear the bass. However, taking the bass away from a song causes an unwanted effect: the song would sound HORRIBLE! Taking the bass away from a song can easily turn one of the best, most well written songs into one of the worst. Imagine taking away the famous bass riff from "Another One Bites The Dust". It wouldn't sound as catchy, not even close. Plus, the bass player usually brings the band together ( think of Paul McCartney or Geddy Lee).
I'm not saying that having no bass at all is bad. I mean, look at the Black Keys, they have no bass. Does that mean they suck? Absolutely not! But what I'm trying to say here is that maybe the bass player is more important than you think. But for now, we just have to listen to Rush.
