Greatest Movie Casts of All Time

The greatest collections of talent in a single movie. Does not include actors who played themselves.

The Top Ten
  1. The Departed - Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Vera Farmiga, Anthony Anderson

This is my favorite Scorsese movie. He is maybe the greatest director to ever live, and this movie really went above and beyond. Leo and Nicholson are two of the all-time greats. Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg aren't as good, but they are still both amazing actors who deserve an Oscar.

Best gangster movie and cast ever. Jack Nicholson was the best part of the movie. He's just so amazing! This should be number one! Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon are also awesome, but no one comes close to Jack Nicholson.

  2. The Return of the King - Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto

Everyone in these movies became like a family. The members of the Fellowship became incredibly close and are still good friends to this day. The cast does a fantastic job of portraying their characters, and they fit together so well.

They all gave everything to making the movies the best they could be.

They are my favorite cast ever. I think all the actors played their parts so well, even though there were so many expectations for them to do well!

This is my favorite cast and also my favorite movie too! They are all awesome and amazing!

  3. Pirates of The Caribbean - Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley

It's just gotta be the best cast of any movie ever in the history of movies!

  4. The Outsiders - C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Leif Garrett

One reason I think that this is one of the best casting jobs ever is that this isn't the best film for any of these actors. However, after this film, Cruise, Dillon, Lowe, Swayze, Lane, and Macchio started getting cast for unforgettable roles and became legends in their own right.

It is laughable that any cast is placed above this one. Although we have very short memories, Ocean's Eleven comes closest.

The amazing thing about this cast is that they were able to find so many big-name actors before they were famous.

  5. The Avengers - Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson

Number 11! This one has the biggest stars ever! Come on, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson!

Honestly, the MCU makes some of the all-time best casting decisions. This should be no. 3, at least.

Some might also add Cobie Smulders, Stan Lee, and Gwyneth Paltrow to the ensemble.

  6. The Dark Knight - Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman

Unbelievable movie with a great cast. And come on, you can't argue that Heath Ledger is one of the greatest actors of our time. RIP Heath, your talent is truly missed.

God rest your soul, Heath Ledger. That posthumous Oscar was so deserved!

One of the best movies ever and without a doubt, one of the best casts!

  7. Ocean's Twelve - George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andy García, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Julia Roberts, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan

  8. The Expendables - Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itié, Charisma Carpenter, Gary Daniels

The cast may be good, but the movie wasn't that great.

  9. A Bridge Too Far - Dirk Bogarde, James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Edward Fox, Elliott Gould, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Hardy Krüger, Laurence Olivier, Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, Maximilian Schell, Liv Ullmann

I watched it again this morning and was just blown away by how many stars there were. You mentioned Caine, Bogarde, Fox, and Elliott, but there were many others who I recognized but couldn't name. Amazing!

When I watched this, I didn't know most of these actors, including Michael Caine. However, after a few years, I realized I had seen one of the best casts of all time.

Probably the best cast of all, but an older movie "Robin and the Seven Hoods," with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Falk, and Edward G. Robinson runs it mighty close.

  10. Pulp Fiction - John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Maria de Medeiros, Ving Rhames, Eric Stoltz, Rosanna Arquette, Christopher Walken, Bruce Willis

Not a single weak link. Everyone does their character complete justice. Pulp Fiction is the type of movie that's almost impossible to pull off, but everyone gives their character humanity, complexity, and the appropriate amount of mystery.

It's one of those movies where you can barely tell that the cast is acting, as they practically live the role. The fact that Samuel L. Jackson didn't get an Oscar for that role is still a travesty.

And lest we forget Harvey Keitel as the Wolf and Steve Buscemi as Buddy Holly.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

Small Soldiers - Kirsten Dunst, Gregory Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Phil Hartman, David Cross, Dennis Leary, Kevin Dunn, Jim Brown, Ernest Borgnine, George Kennedy, Clint Walker, Bruce Dern, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer

  13. ?

Avengers - Endgame - Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Elizabeth Olsen, Winston Duke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Tilda Swinton, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thomp

  14. The Contenders
  15. The Italian Job - Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, Mos Def, Donald Sutherland

  16. The Hunger Games - Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman

This should be in the top ten. As Jen, Josh, and Liam said, it's a very dark movie but with a very light set. The cast really bonded with each other.

Definitely a great movie, great casting, awesome director, and awesome friendship. Name it all!

A cast of young, up-and-coming hot talent including Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, Isabelle Fuhrman, Amandla Stenberg, Leven Rambin, and Alexander Ludwig, among others.

  17. Black Hawk Down - Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, Eric Bana, William Fichtner, Ewen Bremner, Sam Shepard, Gabriel Casseus, Kim Coates, Hugh Dancy, Ron Eldard, Ioan Gruffudd, Tom Guiry, Charlie Hofheimer, Danny Hoch, Jason Isaacs, Zeljko Ivanek

  18. The Godfather - Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Richard S. Castellano, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Abe Vigoda

How is this not higher? Three nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Brando winning Best Actor. This definitely should be in the top 10.

Marlon Brando and Al Pacino are enough for this movie.

Obviously, the best for anyone who knows movies.

  19. Saving Private Ryan - Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, Adam Goldberg, Vin Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi, Jeremy Davies, Matt Damon, Ted Danson, Paul Giamatti, Dennis Farina

Young actors who grew famous. It's a similar situation to The Outsiders, where there were a slew of great actors today who were not yet famous at the time.

Should be higher. Though many of them aren't that famous, they acted very well.

  20. Tropic Thunder - Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Jay Baruchel, Brandon T. Jackson, Tom Cruise

  21. Mars Attacks - Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman, Tom Jones, Lukas Haas, Pam Grier, Lisa Marie, Sylvia Sidney

  22. The Boondock Saints II - All Saints Day - Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly, Clifton Collins Jr., Judd Nelson, Julie Benz, Peter Fonda, Willem Dafoe

  23. Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Paul Bettany

  24. Inception - Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Marion Cotillard, Pete Postlethwaite, Michael Caine

The cast for this couldn't have been better. Tom Hardy, DiCaprio, and all those other amazing people - what more could you ask for? The sad thing is that people are voting for these movies based on how good they are, not based on how good the cast is.

  25. Reservoir Dogs - Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi, Chris Penn, Lawrence Tierney

Excellent cast. Maybe not the best, but definitely one of the best.

  26. Apocalypse Now - Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Frederic Forrest, Laurence Fishburne, Albert Hall, Harrison Ford, Dennis Hopper, Scott Glenn, James Keane, Kerry Rossall

The acting gave me goosebumps. The Ocean's movies just have the hottest cast. This movie has a cast full of amazing actors.

  27. The Longest Day - John Wayne, Paul Anka, Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Roddy McDowall, Sal Mineo, Robert Mitchum, George Segal, Rod Steiger, Robert Wagner, Richard Dawson

Just saw this film on T.V. Every scene in its nearly three-hour playing time had someone famous. From the mega stars of movies to the familiar faces of TV shows, stars from the USA, U.K., France, and Germany. This has to be the biggest "A" list star-studded film ever!

Great war movie. The only war movie cast that rivals this is Kelly's Heroes, which amazingly is not on this list.

How can this film not have the best cast ever? Everyone in the movie was a star!

  28. JFK - Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon, Gary Oldman, Sissy Spacek, Jack Lemmon, Joe Pesci, Edward Asner, Walter Matthau, John Candy, Donald Sutherland, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jay O. Sanders

Simply the best cast ever in a movie, not counting cameos.

You forgot Martin Sheen and Jodie Foster.

  29. Seven - Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey, R. Lee Ermey, Richard Roundtree, John C. McGinley, Julie Araskog, Mark Boone Junior, John Cassini
