Best Albums of 2014

The Top Ten
  1. The Hunting Party - Linkin Park

Why does Linkin Park keep falling behind Jackie Evancho? Linkin Park is like the best band of all time!

COME ON, guys. It deserves to be at number 1! Awakening is good, but The Hunting Party is so much better!

Awakening is bad. The Hunting Party is number one. Come on, LP fans!

  2. To Be Kind - Swans

    OH MY GOD YES

I was NOT expecting this to be in the top 20, let alone the top 3.

To Be Kind changed the way I see music. I'm not kidding. It displays a complete mature, controlled mastery of musical tension and release, one that cannot be found in any metal album. This is not a metal album, this is an experiment in rock music, and it is absolutely fantastic.

I'm happy this non-poppy album is top 3. But it should be number 1 and the 3rd best of the decade behind My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and To Pimp a Butterfly (until 2018).

  3. Hozier - Hozier

This album was a start for the Irish singer before he really made it big in 2022 with "Blood Upon the Snow."

  4. 1989 - Taylor Swift

I can truthfully say I am not disappointed with her album, as I originally thought I would be. All the songs sound like future ballads and even one of the bonus tracks is one of my favorite songs. I think Taylor did a good job on this one.

Each track is memorable and beautiful. 1989 is a to-be classic hit with the hottest breakup and love songs. Love, love, love. I don't know if anyone in the USA has not heard a song from the album!

A genius album, her second-best album tied with Red, behind Speak Now. Really shows how mature Taylor's become.

  5. Awakening - Jackie Evancho

This is a splendidly crafted album with a variety of songs for everyone's tastes. All are more than capably handled by Jackie, who at age 14 when this was recorded, shows maturity, depth, and versatility.

For fans of classical/devotional songs, there is Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise," Caccini's "Ave Maria," and the Latin "Dormi Jesu." Jackie delivers outstanding covers of pop tunes as well as renditions of original, never-heard-before pieces.

My favorite is "Made to Dream," written for Jackie and a very touching, personal statement from the young lady. Auditory bliss.

Can we all say "GRAMMY" Award? A true work of art from Miss Evancho, one of the best female vocalists to ever grace the stage. This young lady is incredible in so many ways. She is as gifted musically as she is in her physical beauty and spiritual grace. Such a role model for our younger generation.

  6. Everything Will Be Alright In the End - Weezer

I think everyone can agree with me that if Weezer would have promoted this album more, they would have easily won Album of the Year, rather than Beck.

  7. 1000 Forms of Fear - Sia

This is the best album of 2014, and I don't care what anybody has to say about it. Sia is one of the only singers that knows how to sing soulful yet pop music nowadays.

  8. The Endless River - Pink Floyd

    This album isn't at #1?!

Come on, this is one of the best albums ever released by a legendary band. A wonderful album that has perfect songs.

Amazing album! Another masterpiece by Pink Floyd. Best album of the year. The second best is To Be Kind - Swans.

Final album by one of the best bands of all time. How is it not number 1?

  9. Mandatory Fun - "Weird Al" Yankovic

  10. St. Vincent - St. Vincent

Should be higher on the list. This album was great.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Guilty Conscience - J. Holiday

  13. ?

No Sick Days - Lil Wyte

  14. The Contenders
  15. Ultraviolence - Lana del Rey

The best album of 2014. Lana delivered an instant rock classic album. Beautifully put together and gorgeous vocals and lyrics.

  16. Rock or Bust - AC/DC

AC/DC has never gone anywhere groundbreaking with their sound, but it works for them. While this album doesn't look like we'll remember it like the other classic AC/DC albums, it delivers. It certainly doesn't deserve to be this high up on the list.

  17. 2014 Forest Hills Drive - J Cole

  18. Run the Jewels 2 - Run the Jewels

I'm sorry, but how on earth is this album below Shady XV? I am an Em fan, and that album was just mediocre. Run the Jewels is a masterpiece. EL-P's production is otherworldly, and the 1-2 punch of Killer Mike and EL-P on the mic is incredible.

Uhhh, undoubtedly the best hip hop album of 2014 sits at 43, behind Rick Ross, Sage the Gemini, and Shady XV. This list is pretty awful.

The only good album that year had to offer. 8/10

  19. .5 the Gray Chapter - Slipknot

Unbelievably stunning. Maybe not the best but definitely a close second. What makes it even more special is that it's about the death of Paul Gray. R.I.P. #2.

Why are Taylor Swift and Sia above this great album by one of the greatest metal bands of this generation? Damn, this album is like a mixtape. It's fire, man.

Not the best Slipknot album, but it's still great.

  20. Jealous Gods - Poets of the Fall

  21. V - Maroon 5

  22. Ghost Stories - Coldplay

Great album! You get amazing songs like A Sky Full of Stars, Magic, True Love, Midnight, Always In My Head, Ink, and all the other songs on this album. Oh, and the artwork cover for the album is amazing.

  23. Queen of the Clouds - Tove Lo

Tove Lo is such a great singer. I've been listening to her for a long time.

  24. Sonic Highways - Foo Fighters

  25. My Everything - Ariana Grande

Should be ranked much higher than this. It includes Love Me Harder, Problem, Break Free, A Little Bit of Your Heart, and many more favorites!

  26. Shakira - Shakira

It was my most anticipated album of 2014, and I wasn't disappointed at all. I love this album! I love Shakira!

  27. X - Ed Sheeran

Confused as to how this hasn't made it to number 1 yet, let alone be added to the list at all. Gosh.

  28. Black Messiah - D'angelo and the Vanguard

  29. Citadel - Ne Obliviscaris
