Top 10 Best Bands of All Time

Top ten bands of all time. Ok, it can be anything as long as it's a group of people and not a solo singer.
The Top Ten
1 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways. ...read more.

This band is simply the greatest of all time! Although they weren't the most talented group ever, they maximized the talent they did have to create something beautiful. John and Paul are one of, if not the best, songwriting duos of all time. They contrasted each other greatly, but that didn't stop them from making fantastic collaborations.

They were both excellent as solo artists, but never reached the heights they achieved as a group. Also, they were the most successful band to transcend the genre of music they started off with. They went from being a great "rock band" to an amazing band, period. Lastly, people of all ages enjoy their music, young and old. This makes them even more lovable as they appeal to a much wider audience.

The Beatles and Queen were and will forever be no doubt the greatest bands ever. They are way better than Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. Although I like both bands the same amount, The Beatles are more influential and they are the best selling music artist. Sure, Freddie was the best vocalist and rock singer of all time and Brian was a better guitarist while Roger was a better drummer but Queen didn't make as much influence as The Beatles did. Also The Beatles are slightly more popular. Some people ask why The Beatles are higher than Queen or Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd and well this is your answer. I saw someone say that some modern bands are way better than The Beatles but who? No other bands or singers can change music and influence other music artists as much as what The Beatles did. The Beatles changed music forever.

Across The Universe, Here, There & Everywhere, In My Life. Guitar Gently Weeps, For No one, Sexy Sadie, Come Together, Strawberry Fields, Walrus, I'll Follow The Sun, No Reply, All You Need Is Love, Flying, Dear Prudence, Sgt. Pepper's, Nowhere Man, Eleanor Rigby, It's Only Love, Revolution, You're Gonna Lose That Girl, Rain, Your Bird Can Sing, Norwegian Wood, Not A Second Time. Happiness Is a Warm Gun, Because, Bathroom Window. That covers a partial list of their amazing songs...there's at least 100 others. They are a phenomenon, never to be seen again.

Why isn't the world's best at #1? They pretty much have 90% of the world's popular music records that nobody will ever break. Not to mention, they have held these records for almost 50 years. They have written almost 80% of their songs, except for the occasional '50s remakes, which sounded pretty cool to me. All four members went off and got as many number-one hits combined as they did in The Beatles.

2 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He then joined the band in 1970, suggested "Queen" as a new band name, and adopted his familiar stage name. John Deacon was also recruited to complete the line-up. ...read more.

All of the bands on this list are amazing, but I think Queen is a little better. All the band members were so different, but they all went together well. Queen always has music to offer for every one of your moods, and they never disappoint. I can't think of one song of theirs that was even just a little bit bad.

Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, Brian May, and John Deacon felt so connected with the audience. I've never been to one of their concerts, and I wasn't even alive when they performed. But even when I watch videos of their concerts, it feels as if I'm there. I haven't watched Bohemian Rhapsody, and I'm still in love with Queen. This just goes to show that people nowadays don't only love Queen because of the movies. Again, all the bands on this list are amazing and have so much to offer, but in my opinion, Queen has just a bit more.

You can't even consider The Beatles as a band. They are all just pop. Queen, on the other hand, is the best band of all time. They have so many great songs. "We Are the Champions" is very inspirational, while "We Will Rock You" gets you pumped up. And don't get me started on "Bohemian Rhapsody". That song is a masterpiece. It is rated on this website as the best song of all time. Freddie Mercury, again on this website, has been in first place on lists like "Best Singers of All Time" and "Most Unique Voices." So why aren't they at the top? I'll tell you why. The Beatles are the most overrated bunch of posers ever. Queen should be at the top, and no one can tell me otherwise.

Obviously, the Beatles are at number 1. I'm not going to try and change that. They deserve all the hype they get. They are probably one of, if not the most, talented and original songwriters of all time.

But Queen... oh man.

Queen is amazing.

They are so unpredictable, so iconic, so recognizable, and just so strangely addictive that it hurts. Queen is a band that makes you feel how a band should make you feel: whatever you want. Their songs can be happy, sad, angry - really whatever you want them to be. In my opinion, Queen is the greatest band that will ever exist.

My favorite band of all time? No. The greatest band of all time? You bet your ass. How many other bands in the world have so many hits recognized by so many people? Could the layman in the street name 15 Led Zeppelin songs? Pink Floyd? Even the Rolling Stones? No. That's the beauty of Queen - they transcend their fans and speak to everyone. While I recognize that the Beatles were pioneers of their time, they were successful because nothing like them had come before. That makes them fortunate, not the greatest. Queen, on the other hand, are loved by people of all ages and continue to gain popularity.

3 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd are an English progressive rock band formed in 1965 in London, England. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. The band consisted of 5 members - David Gilmour (Vocals and Guitar), Syd Barrett (Vocals and Guitar), Nick Mason (Drums), Roger Waters (Vocals and Bass), and Richard Wright (Vocals and Keyboard). Barrett was replaced by Gilmour in 1968. ...read more.

This is without a doubt the best band in my opinion. Seems like they actually take more time to make amazing music for their fans. And their albums are all unique and all the songs in the albums are unique. There is no other band like Pink Floyd. I'm confused why Queen is above Pink Floyd. While Queen is amazing with masterpiece songs that are iconic, I don't see them being above Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, heck even Black Sabbath is above them in my opinion. I agree Beatles are number 1 but Pink Floyd definitely deserves number 2. Only band that's close is Led Zeppelin, otherwise Pink Floyd absolutely trashed other bands.

The thing about Pink Floyd, in my eyes, beyond the fact that they made killer songs individually, is that they absolutely mastered the concept album. Most of that credit goes to Roger Waters, but still.

Name any other band that not only released four albums in six years but also had all of those four albums be considered some of the greatest albums ever made. You don't see it happen anywhere else. You just don't.

Other bands may have more songs that work on their own, and not just in the context of an album, but I have found very little music in any genre that is as powerful and meaningful while still being relevant today, even though the band has been around for over fifty years.

I think Pink Floyd is the best rock band in the world. In addition to the amazing soundscapes present on all of Pink Floyd's albums, they also create the most coherent concept albums. I confess that my opinion is colored by the fact that I mostly listen to symphonic and progressive rock music. I love music where your emotions are taken on a rollercoaster ride: first by quiet passages that touch your soul, then suddenly you're knocked to the ground by hard-hitting passages. It's quintessentially Pink Floyd.

The fact that Linkin Park, Queen, and Metallica are above Pink Floyd made me lose my faith in humanity. How do you not like Waters' lyrics combined with Gilmour's solos and Wright and Mason's impeccable musicianship? In my opinion, Pink Floyd can take on the Beatles or Led Zeppelin any day. The depth and meaning of their songs can defeat any band in the universe, especially bands like Linkin Park and Queen.

I bet half of these voters never even listened to Shine On You Crazy Diamond, yet they feel that Linkin Park is better than Pink Floyd. Go back, you fanboys!

4 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors ...read more.

I'm voting for Zeppelin over the two bands above them, Queen and The Beatles, based on the fact that they proved themselves to be incredibly capable both in the studio and, more importantly, live. This is unlike The Beatles, who were mainly a studio band. Each member was equally important to the sound of the band, unlike Queen, who had most of the attention focused on Freddie Mercury. Zeppelin was so good because of the incredible interplay between John Bonham and John Paul Jones (just look at Dazed and Confused live), the soaring vocals of Robert Plant, and the otherworldly guitar skills of Jimmy Page. Page excelled as both a rhythm player and a great 'feel' lead player, as well as a crazy shredder. But if one of those sections were removed, the whole band would have fallen apart, as they did after Bonham's death. It is for these reasons that I vote Led Zeppelin as the greatest band ever.

It always surprises me when I hear about how great The Beatles were. After all, since I could talk, I was groomed to think this. Then I found Led Zeppelin. I've looked at all the supposed greatest bands of all time, and I still love Zeppelin. In terms of lyrical value, Zeppelin isn't as good. The same goes for vocals at times. However, lyrics aren't as important. You can feel so much more from amazing instrumental work. Listen to The Beatles' highest-praised songs, and Zeppelin has multiple ones that beat them any day. Also, I love both bands, but it's very clear who takes what category.

So, Led Zeppelin is number 3? That makes no sense. They are easily the best band of all time. They are the most inspirational band of all time and revolutionized rock music forever. Stairway to Heaven is the best song of all time, and albums like Physical Graffiti are some of the best albums of all time. They have so many timeless songs and albums. It's a crime that they are number three.

They are pretty much the archetype of the perfect rock/hard rock band. I mean, Bonzo and Page are both acclaimed to be some of the greatest in what they do. Plant had the perfect voice for their music, and Jonesy is amazingly talented too. So even if you don't like their music or the band itself, you have to assume that they deserve their place among the best.

5 The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums). Their best works include songs like Paint it Black, Sympathy for the Devil, Satisfication (Which ranked no. 2 in The Rolling Stones Magazine’s best songs of all time list). The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2012, the band celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Better than the Beatles, but with less mainstream pop. Smarter and more real than Led Zeppelin. I'll always love them more than Metallic, AC/DC, and Metallica (most mainstream metal is unlistenable or just bad). Now I have to give them the vote. They are rock by definition: like soul music sped up, or like blues and jazz but with a more modernized fast rage. I'll always love the truest rock band ever made.

Explain to me why Metallica is higher than the Rolling Stones. These guys are second-best, other than the Beatles. The Stones are awesome. Queen wasn't even that popular for its time. Suck it up. Street Fighting Man, Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, Ruby Tuesday - those are some of the best songs ever. Suck it up. The Stones are great. And if you think they are bad, then YOU ARE CRAZY. The Rolling Stones are awesome.

This list is a joke! Even Paul McCartney has said that The Stones are the best! These other groups wouldn't exist if not for The Stones! Only Elvis had more influence on rock 'n' roll than The Stones! Four of the top five selling music tours of all time, including numbers 1 and 2! Enough said. They really don't need defending. I just wish people would quit making ridiculous, uneducated, childish lists like this. It's very insulting to the legends, even though they'll never pay attention to stuff like this. It's a disgrace!

Of the bands on this list, The Stones and Zeppelin are the best. The Beatles were too poppy, then too psychedelic. Queen was a very good band but got bigger after Mercury's death. The same goes for Nirvana with Cobain. Neither are worthy of top 5 status.

6 Metallica Metallica is an American Heavy/Thrash Metal band formed in 1981. The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). The group came into mainstream from their Self-Titled album and the hit single "Enter Sandman".

With their first two albums, Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning reaching underground success, their third effort, Master of Puppets has since become one of the most important heavy metal albums ever, as it became the first thrash metal album to be certified platinum. The title track has since become the band's most played song live. ...read more.

Metallica is the best band ever. Just listen to their discography. Even their weakest albums, like St. Anger or Reload, are great to me. They are a big inspiration and got me into heavy metal music. When I first heard Master of Puppets, I was blown away by their sound. They may not be the fastest, heaviest, or most complex band, but their songs are so well-structured that their albums are very memorable and iconic, especially their first five. To me, Ride The Lightning and Justice are their best and are among the greatest metal records of all time. Amazing band.

Greatest band ever! Their music is spellbinding (they've created some of the greatest musical works ever), and they have never ceased to amaze me. I haven't listened to St. Anger or Lulu, but I've heard songs from the rest of their albums, and I've never disliked a single one (even their newer stuff, which is on par with their older material). Metallica is amazing, and I think they are much better than bands like the Beatles (incredibly overrated and pretty generic, although I have a friend who loves them), Led Zeppelin (the singer's voice is aggravating), and even Queen, even though Queen is great. Long live the metal and some of the music kings! People who don't know them (i.e., pretty much every kid in every school I went to) need to hear them. They are masters of puppets (😜, also the second greatest song of all time) and masters of music.

As a band, they have done it all: groundbreaking sound when they first came out, becoming the king of their genre, breaking into the mainstream, experimenting with their sound, facing their inner problems, and now coming out strong and kicking ass. Few bands reach this far.

It's the most relevant band and has a huge number of great songs. Unlike the other top four bands on the list, this one isn't there just because of nostalgia.

7 Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band.

The band was comprised of Kurt Cobain (Vocals, Guitar), Dave Grohl (Drums) and Krist Novoselic (Bass). ...read more.

Nirvana. What more do I need to say? They are, or were, so awesome - my favorite band ever, the main thing I listen to. Kurt was truly talented. I'm sure he still would be if he were alive today.

Yes, I may be a teenager, but my opinion still matters. Kurt Donald Cobain is one of the major influences in my life. Kurt said that people read too much into his music and try to make it something it's not, but true Nirvana fans don't need an explanation of what certain things in his music mean. We just know that when we listen to it, we are at home and have a place to fit in.

You could say that The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are true figures in rock, but Nirvana not only showed people the good in this rebellion of music, but it also showed heart, realism, and passion. Yes, Queen and Zeppelin produce powerful and loud music, but Nirvana was one of the first bands to deal with personal problems like sadness and depression. It's not for everyone, but everyone should at least know and respect this band.

I'd say that Nirvana should be higher because of their ability to make so many hit songs in such a short time. Although some of their songs are not complex, the music is terrific. Plus, they basically jump-started grunge. The most impactful point is that ever since they've come out, people of all ages know and listen to them. Lastly, they created the best rock song of all time, Smells Like Teen Spirit.

8 Green Day Green Day are an American pop punk/punk rock band formed in East Bay, California in 1987. The members include Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), Tré Cool (drums) and Jason White (guitar). Green Day are associated with punk rock, pop punk and alternative rock. Some of their influences include The Ramones, Sex Pistols, NOFX, and Bad Religion. They are best known for their songs like ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, ‘Basket Case’ and their ‘American Idiot’ & ‘Dookie’ albums. American Idiot sold 6 million copies in the U.S. and won a Grammy Award for "Best Rock Album". Green Day have sold over 75 million records worldwide and have won 5 Grammy Awards. They ...read more.

Green Day should be in the top ten. They have songs in many different genres, such as Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Alternative Rock, Power Pop, Garage Rock, Acoustic, Ska, and even Screamo. Tre Cool is probably one of the best drummers on Earth, and Mike Dirnt is likely one of the best bassists ever. Billie Joe's lyrics were good at first, but they just keep getting better and better. His vocals are also improving over time.

Some of his guitar solos, especially from the early albums, are absolutely insane. They have sold over 75 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. 'Dookie' is certified as diamond in the USA, and it is the best-selling punk album and also the 57th best-selling album of all time. They have stood the test of time, as they have been together for 30 years.

They are also one of the most influential bands ever, inspiring many other artists such as Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Lady Gaga, Busted, McFly, ...more

Green Day is the back-talking, anarchy-type of band. To me, they are the definition of rebellious teenagers. They are also one of the most rebellious bands to have come around so far. They are the band to turn to when you either want to cry or just be alone and say F the world. We all seem to love it and always will.

Green Day is a fantastic band. I don't know why it's at number twelve. I mean, I guess I would think the people voting on this website would say so, considering you think Ariana Grande and Michael Jackson are considered bad singers.

The Beatles are definitely #1, but Green Day is also a great band. They have very powerful music, are influential, and have a good sound. I could go on and on. They're still making good music today, though I do think their older stuff (from 1000 Hours to American Idiot) was better.

9 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1979, after which they hired Brian Johnson to front the band. Commonly referred to as a hard rock or blues rock band.

They managed to climb back to number 1 band after their lead singer died. It's the 2000s, and people still listen to them and use their songs in commercials. AC/DC is the hard rock counterpart to the Beatles. In my opinion, the ranking is 1. Beatles, 2. AC/DC, 3. Queen/Led Zeppelin, 4. Rolling Stones, 5. Pink Floyd. Let's be real, which bands will people continue to listen to, and how many iconic songs have they made? Having a spot at number 9 is a joke. Are you telling me that the number 1 hard rock band isn't higher? Come on, guys, are you for real voting Green Day above AC/DC?

What is AC/DC doing here? Last time I checked, they were at number 5. If it were my website, I'd make them number 1. Their music just gets you pumped up and puts you in the rock and roll mood. AC/DC forever!

AC/DC has stuck with me since I was very little. It might have been the first rock band I ever heard, and I have loved it ever since.

So Metallica, Green Day, and Linkin Park are better than AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and Sabbath? Must be kids voting.

10 Rush Rush was a Canadian progressive rock band that was formed in 1968. The band has had an iconic lineup since 1975, which included Neil Peart (Drums, Percussion), Geddy Lee (Vocals, Bass, Keyboards), and the guitarist, Alex Lifeson. Peart passed away after a 3 year battle with brain cancer in January of 2020. Because of this, Lee says there are no plans to keep the band going, so Rush is most likely defunct. The band has become one of the most well-known progressive rock bands in the world, with such albums as "2112", "Hemispheres" and "Moving Pictures". More than half of their albums have gone gold or platinum, as certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America).

Okay, every fan of any kind of rock music (metal and alternative included) should have every rock band ahead of One Direction.

Easily the most influential prog band, Neil Peart is insane, Geddy Lee is insane, and Alex Lifeson is extremely underrated and incredibly talented. None of these other bands, aside from Led Zeppelin, can even comprehend and capture the skill and heart that goes into each of their songs. They are one of the very few bands to keep the same lineup for over 40 years.

It's not just Neil Peart who gets all the credit. The amazing solos are by Lifeson, and Lee also contributes incredible talents.

Moving Pictures is my second favorite album of all time, and YYZ is the best instrumental ever.

11 Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are an English Heavy Metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The most critically acclaimed period for the band was from 1983-1989. With vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, lead guitarist Dave Murray, rhythm guitarist Adrian Smith, and drummer Nicko McBrain. Smith left the band in 1989 and was replaced by Janick Gers. But returned in 1999, and now the band has three guitar players. ...read more.

This is the band that got me into metal. By far, the best metal band out there. You wanna listen to this! The lyrics are great. Steve Harris and his galloping bass playing style are great, and he's a good captain for Team Maiden. Bruce Dickinson is great on vocals. Adrian Smith has his melodic guitar playing style, and Dave Murray's solos are great. Janick Gers has good heavy guitaring and is great live, dancing and kicking around. Nicko McBrain is also a great drummer. In other words, it's very difficult to find a band that has been making music for the past 45 years and can match Maiden's caliber. Up The Irons!

Iron Maiden is not only the greatest metal band of all time but also the greatest band, period! No other group has released so many good albums, has so many amazing songs, and is so incredible live. If you have never experienced Maiden, do yourself a favor and listen to their incredible catalogue of music. You will not be disappointed! Up the Irons!

Iron Maiden rules! They've been my favorite band of all time ever since I discovered them at age 16. I needed to find something that sounded like Dio, especially from the album Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath, although I was also super into Holy Diver and other Dio albums of that time period. I found Iron Maiden and was even more impressed, finding myself loving them more than any other band.

These kings are amazing and my third favorite band of all time. Their songs are amazing, and few people (like two) are better singers than Bruce Dickinson! I also want to fly in their plane because Bruce is also a licensed pilot.

12 Guns N' Roses Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles formed in 1985. The classic lineup, as signed to Geffen Records in 1986, consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. Apart from hard rock they are also associated with heavy metal. ...read more.

Come on, guys. Axl Rose can sing in 5 octaves. Name another singer with that talent. Also, they are still performing and still sound great.

How is it possible for Tokio Hotel to be in 2nd place? For God's sake, Guns N' Roses are without any doubt the best band ever! Everyone knows Sweet Child O'Mine and November Rain, not to mention Welcome To The Jungle. Every time I hear Slash's solos, I go to heaven.

Guns N' Roses are hard to explain. They give you a sense of what was and what is to come. Although they are no longer together, they will forever continue to enrich people's lives.

It's infuriating to see The Who, Nirvana, and The Beach Boys ahead of GNR. They should be in first place.

13 Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The members currently include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ) and Rob Bourdon (drums). Linkin Park are associated with a mixture of Alternative Rock, Hip Hop and Techno. Some of their influences include Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, The Roots and Aphex Twin. ...read more.

Linkin Park's sound and lyrics are very powerful. They reflect the genuineness of not only their own experiences but also their audiences. The combined talent of men in different genres has created one of the most beautiful diversities in music that I have ever witnessed. I believe they should easily be in the top 3.

Linkin Park is THE rock band leading the digital age. They are the only rock band today to be in the top 20 of "artists with the most Facebook followers" and are the biggest rock band on YouTube.

Love them or hate them, Linkin Park is still going strong and is leaving behind a huge legacy. Only time will tell, but this band has major potential to be remembered as one of the greatest.

What! You've got to be kidding. Linkin Park ON 7TH? This band deserves to be on top. They are the best rock band the world has seen or will ever see. Their music is awesome, and their lyrics are always so realistic and wonderful.

LINKIN PARK has a massive legacy with a giant following that is still growing day by day. Love them or hate them, Linkin Park has proven the test of time and earned its place among the greatest.

14 Dream Theater Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", only to change its name to Dream Theater later.

The members of the band’s original lineup consisted of John Petrucci (Guitar), John Myung (Bass) and Mike Portnoy (Drums). The band had multiple keyboardists and singers, but as of and since 1991, the band's lead vocalist has been James LaBrie.

The band released their debut album "When Day and Dream Unite" in 1989, but only gained success and notoriety after the release of their second album, "Images and Words" in 1992. ...read more.

If you like Rush, you should give them a listen. They have a similar vibe but, at the same time, feel really original and amazing!

I have to say, I'm surprised they made it to the top 40. However, they deserve to be in the top 5.

Top 5! Easily! All 16 albums are amazing.

Unbelievable... Deserves to be #1.

15 Red Hot Chili Peppers The Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American funk-rock and alternative rock band, that was founded in 1983. The band's members are Anthony Kiedis (Vocals), Michael "Flea" Balzary (Bass), Chad Smith (Drums) and numerous guitarists, most well-known being John Frusciante. The band is among the most well-known funk bands in music history with albums like "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" and "Californification" being some of their best known works. Throughout their career, the band has won numerous different awards and established an immense fanbase.

My favorite band ever. Flea is an amazing bassist, Anthony is a great singer, Josh and John are great guitarists, and Chad is a pretty good drummer. How is this below One Direction?

Basically the only good band that hasn't broken up and is still good to this day.

My #1. Grew up listening to them non-stop. Funky, catchy, great riffs and basslines. The best.

How is this so low? One of the top bands in the world.

16 Aerosmith Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band".

For 50 years, this band has reinvented themselves through music. It's truly amazing that they've lasted this long together and are still continuing to tour.

Aerosmith needs to be higher on the list. They are the "Bad Boys from Boston" and they rule! They have so many great albums and hits. They are a rock legend. Definitely one of the best and most influential bands in the world! Aerosmith forever!

One of the greatest rock bands ever. They're talented, have good songs, and put on great live performances.

Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way - what more can I say?

17 U2 U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin. Formed in 1976, the group consists of Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. U2's early sound was rooted in post-punk but eventually grew to incorporate influences from many genres of popular music. Throughout the group's musical pursuits, they have maintained a sound built on melodic instrumentals. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal themes and sociopolitical concerns.

As is the case with all truly great bands, U2 has been different but nevertheless brilliant in all phases of its existence. Its popularity is both trans-temporal and trans-cultural. It seems obvious by now that some of the band's best songs will be relevant and enjoyed for many generations to come.

U2 consistently has the highest-grossing and largest sold-out arena world tours every time they put out an album. Their Zooropa tour in the 90s was massive and was the third largest behind The Rolling Stones, just based on gross receipts. To say that they are not in the top 5 biggest bands of all time (yes, this includes the 80s and 90s) is just ridiculous.

Rarely does a group combine artistry and politics as gracefully as U2. Certainly not all 50+ groups that are ahead of this one. U2 will always be listened to and always respected.

Last of the iconic rock bands. Seriously, Imagine Dragons is ahead of U2? Are all these voters in middle school?

18 The Who The Who is an English rock band formed in London, England in 1964. The most recognizable lineup was Roger Daltrey (lead vocals), Pete Townshend (guitar), John Entwistle (bass guitar), and Keith Moon (drums). They are best known for their live performances and hit songs Baba O'Riley, My Generation, and Won't Get Fooled Again. Some noted achievements were their rock operas, Tommy (album), Quadrophenia (album), and A Quick One, While He's Away (song). ...read more.

HOW THE HECK IS Coldplay ABOVE THE WHO? Name five Coldplay songs now. Now name five who songs. I can. Baba o Riley, my generation, behind blue eyes, pinball wizard, who are you. And that isn't even getting into the the other stuff. Coldplay had livin la vida and kind of paradise. THAT'S IT.

Baba O'Riley, My Generation, I Can See for Miles, Pinball Wizard - these songs are all legendary rock songs and are made by one of the best bands in the world: The Who. They even inspired Nick Mason, the drummer of Pink Floyd, to start learning drums. That's how good they are.

Anyone who says The Who are an overrated and horrible band is at the same level of intelligence as a dead rat!

The Who should be in the Top 10, in my opinion. A list of the greatest rock bands without The Who in it is like a trial without evidence!

19 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, singer John "Ozzy" Osbourne, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward.

The band became mainstream after improving after their debut album got panned. In 1978, Osbourne was fired and replaced with former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Who went to release 2 albums before leaving in 1983, only for Osbourne to return in 1992. ...read more.

Black Sabbath is one of the most influential bands in rock history and one of the bands that inspired many of the bands we have today. And the original singer, Ozzy Osbourne, is not called the "Prince of Darkness" or the "Godfather of Heavy Metal" for nothing. They should be much higher. They rock and they are the Godfather of Metal! Long live Black Sabbath!

Damn, a band that brings you back to the 70s as if you are in Birmingham with them, performing witchcraft. They are real hard hitters that leave you wanting more. Ozzy's vocals, Iomi's guitar, Butler's bass, and Bill's drums are all components that make up the iconic and explosive yet beautiful sound of Sabbath.

Sabbath should be number 1! It didn't matter if it was Ozzy or Dio singing. This band was consistently good.

The greatest and the best metal band of all time, period.

20 Bon Jovi Bon Jovi is a hard rock/pop rock band formed in 1983, which had a streak of successful albums in the late 1980s. The band originally consisted of lead vocalist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Ritchie Sambora (left in 2013), bassist Alec John Such (left in 1994), keyboard David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres. The band's most famous album is Slippery When Wet, released in 1986, and had multiple hit singles such as "You give love a bad name", "Livin' On A Prayer", and "Wanted Dead Or Alive". The band's success continued well into the 1990s and 2000s, and the group still makes music to this day. They have sold around around 83 million albums worldwide. The band's first four albums blended the glam metal ...read more.

What! Some of these bands above this one aren't even that good. Rush only had Tom Sawyer, and Iron Maiden only had The Trooper. This makes no sense. This band should at least be in the top 10. By the way, Nirvana is so overrated.

One of the best rock bands of the 80-90 era. Their earlier albums sound so fresh even today.

Impossible! How is this at 31st place, below One Direction and Twenty One Pilots? Outrageous.

They are the best band ever, with hit songs like Living on a Orator and It's My Life.

21 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Provo, Utah, and are now based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Imagine Dragons' lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. The band first gained exposure with the release of their single "It's Time", followed by their award-winning debut studio album Night Visions (2012), which resulted in the chart-topping singles "Radioactive" and "Demons". Rolling Stone named "Radioactive", which holds the record for most weeks charted on the Billboard Hot 100, the "biggest rock hit of the year".

I love Imagine Dragons. They've been my favorite band for over a year. Their lyrics are relatively deep, and the music is catchy. However, I don't think they deserve to be on this list, not even if they had kept the same sound and meaningful lyrics of their first two albums.

They are my favorite band. I love all of their songs, especially from the Smoke and Mirrors album. They have such deep and emotional songs. The only bands that come close to them (among modern bands) are FOB and probably Twenty One Pilots.

One of my favorite bands. I'm pretty disconnected from my family and depressed because my dad died, but I deny it when my mom asks me and never get help. Imagine Dragons helps me so much, and along with Twenty One Pilots, they actually bring me closer to my family and relatives, and we bond because of it.

They're not as great as The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, or Nirvana, but they deserve the spot they have. They're one of today's best bands. They're way better than the garbage that some people refer to as "One Direction."

22 Foo Fighters Foo Fighters are an American alternative rock band, formed in Seattle in 1994. The band was founded by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl after the death of Kurt Cobain and the dissolution of his previous band. The band consists of Dave Grohl (lead vocalist, rhythm guitar, main songwriter), Pat Smear (rhythm guitar), Nate Mendel (bass), Taylor Hawkins (drums, backing vocals), Chris Shiflett (lead guitar, backing vocals) and the most recent addition, Rami Jaffee (keyboards). Former members include William Goldsmith (drummer) and Franz Stahl (guitarist). ...read more.

Foo Fighters is a continuation of the former band Nirvana. It is a modern version of the band. David Grohl is also a role model of mine.

Oh, come on! Foo Fighters are way too low here!

You can't really hate them.

They should be above 20!

23 Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums).

Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan (Drums), their most notable drummer, passed away in 2009, being temporarily replaced by Mike Portnoy, who was replaced by Arin Ilejay, who was finally replaced with Brooks Wackerman. A common phrase for fans "foREVer" was created after the Rev's death in his remembrance. ...read more.

Avenged Sevenfold gives you the will to be weird. You may have different styles and things to say than others, but that's normal. Don't be afraid to be yourself. Avenged Sevenfold, along with Nirvana, encourages this. I mean, where do you think artists these days got their inspiration?

These guys don't care what other people think about them or their music. It's addicting. They're my favorite band personally and should be at #1.

Best band ever. I love this band because the guys are best friends first.

I like this band a lot. They produce great music with melody and meaning.

24 Weezer Weezer is an American alternative rock/power pop band formed in Los Angeles in 1992, currently consisting of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitar), Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner.

Rivers Cuomo could be one of the greatest vocalists I've ever heard. Their weird music is awesome!

It's hilarious how bands like Weezer, Oasis, and The Beach Boys are behind Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5. It's a shame.

How did the Bee Gees, a bunch of girly-voiced singers, beat this amazing band?

The best band that's never been acknowledged as the best band of all time.

25 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

I can only think of one band that has had more impact than Radiohead in music creation and the industry: The Beatles. These guys are out of this world.

22? How is this so far down? Radiohead isn't for this world. The human species doesn't deserve Radiohead's music. It's too good for us. Radiohead conveys emotions you had no idea existed, does things you had no idea could be done, and can make anything and everything work with their genius talent.

Also, look at how well the band members have aged! In A Moon Shaped Pool, you can't even tell that the members of the band are almost 50 years old. They haven't lost any skill or talent over the years, and if anything, they've learned. If I had to pick my Desert Island Disc, it would no doubt be a Radiohead album. Even Pablo Honey has songs like Blow Out that are better and more unique than pretty much anything musicians are doing today. Radiohead is definitely one of the most unique bands in the world, and they're easily the best at it.

Song after song of deep, meaningful sound, just pure emotion. If you've never heard a Radiohead song (apart from "Creep"), I DARE YOU to listen to:

- "No Surprises"
- "Karma Police"
- "Street Spirit"

Listen to each of them no less than four times. Take a day, then listen to them again. All of them are great when you're having one of those sad nights. Just the opening of "No Surprises" will give you chills. After that, move onto more experimental sounds like "Kid A". But trust me, if you follow that and just dip your toe in the water, the shark that is Radiohead will come and take you underneath the waves, changing your life for the better. Thank you.

Are you serious? Radiohead is THIS far back? They could be in the top 5. OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows. OK Computer defined music for a decade forward, Kid A was genius from start to finish, and there was nothing like it. In Rainbows was practically perfect and still so unique. Their music is genius and timeless, and hardly any other bands have been so well critically received for over 20 years. You can't go wrong with any album.
