Top 10 Best Drum Songs

Drummers. Fast. Skilled. Incredible. You name it. But raw talent behind the kit only goes so far. What really lights the fire is what they're playing. You've heard it before. That one fill that makes your jaw drop. The relentless rhythm that punches through your chest. The solo that makes you wonder if the drummer has four arms and a personal vendetta against the snare. These moments don't happen in a vacuum. They're baked into the songs themselves, fueling them with energy, chaos, or absolute precision. This list isn't just about the drummers. It's about the songs that gave them the perfect playground.

Some tracks hit you with speed. Others flex their muscles with technical complexity. And then there are the ones that don't even need to be flashy. They just groove in a way that keeps your head bobbing and your air-drumming skills in constant demand. It's not always about solo showcases. Sometimes the real magic is in the subtle control, the sense of timing, the way the drums tie everything else together without stealing the spotlight. Other times, the drums are the spotlight, and everything else just tries to keep up.

This list brings those moments to the front of the stage. The ones where the drumming does more than keep time. It defines the track.

The Top Ten
  1. Moby Dick - Led Zeppelin

Most drummers think there are people who can drum better than Bonham. Those people use a double bass kick to make crazy beats. Bonham only used one pedal and could go just as fast, which made him awesome.

Wow, people voting for the Arctic Monkeys! Horrible! Really, those who have voted for them don't know what a drum is. Listen to Led Zeppelin (John Bonham), The Who (Keith Moon), or Rush (Neil Peart), and maybe you'll get an idea.

Truly phenomenal footwork there! John Bonham was a pioneer of the heel-toe technique. He mastered it in the 1969 song "Good Times Bad Times."

  2. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Fast drums and everything else you need for a song.

    Amazing because it's Dave Grohl!

  3. Eyeless - Slipknot

Joey Jordison is truly my favorite drummer ever. Eyeless is my favorite Slipknot song as well. He is able to maintain some of the fastest beats and create some of the best bass drum patterns I have ever seen.

He's a huge inspiration to my drum playing!

Should really be at the top of the list. Whether or not you like Slipknot, this song has the best drumming simply because of the skill and pace involved.

Joey Jordison is one of the fastest drummers. He can keep a solid beat and headbang like crazy at the same time.

  4. Hot for Teacher - Van Halen

Have you ever heard a drum kit sound like a car? Well, this solo does it!

The fact that this song is ranked below a bunch of metalcore songs is just odd.

It's my kid's favorite song and he loves drums. I rest my case. (I prefer bass guitars, though.)

  5. YYZ - Rush

Although the studio version of this song is great, the live version from "Exit Stage Left" is incredible. It not only features the same awesome drumming from the studio album but also includes an insane drum solo in the middle.

This is the best drum song, be it studio or live.

This is an amazing song by Rush. If you can play this, you're awesome.

  6. My Generation - The Who

The massive, crazy noise from Moon the Loon - The Who would not have been The Who without his input. He may not be technically the best, but he sure had a highly original, awesome sound.

He's a great advert for English-made Premier Drums.

The oldest beats from The Who are some that I find interesting.

  7. Ticks and Leeches - Tool

Danny Carey is incredible. He's the kind of drummer who will play something, and you'll have to think about what he just did because it's more than likely filled with advanced rhythms and odd time signatures.

Danny Carey's style is so clean and fast. I've never heard anyone play like him.

Danny is one of the greatest of all time. He has odd beats, is always in time, and is more creative than most.

  8. 21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson

Mind-bending playing. Very few drummers can claim to have played a track like this. They not only kept time on such an influential, epic, rocking track, but also helped to shape the sound of it to such a degree. Bravo to Michael Giles. Bravo. One for the ages.

Having Smells Like Teen Spirit at number five is priceless! This song is hard to keep up with.

  9. Your Betrayal - Bullet for My Valentine

I listened to all the top 10 songs, and I would vote for this one! The drum beat is consistent throughout. Bang your head from start to end!

The drummer is ridiculous in this song. If you don't get pumped up listening to the intro, then you aren't human.

The bass drum is so fluent throughout the chorus.

  10. In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins

You're right. He is such an underrated drummer. Unfortunately, a lot of people only know him as a singer and for his drumming on In the Air Tonight. Listen to his earlier stuff with Genesis!

Listen to Phil on early Genesis and Brand X. He had technique, speed, and most importantly, feel.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

Hungry Like the Wolf - Duran Duran

  13. ?

    Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

  14. The Contenders
  15. Tom Sawyer - Rush

Rush has a collection of some of the best instrumentalists in each area, and Neil on drums is no exception!

Rush rocks. Neil is a god. Tom Sawyer is the main hymn, along with YYZ.

It is a sin to not include this in the top 10. Rush is commonly underrated in these top 10s.

  16. It Never Ends - Bring Me the Horizon

  17. Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2

  18. Cold - Axewound

  19. Brianstorm - Arctic Monkeys

Amazing song. The drumbeat is kept in the sweet spot between complicated and easy while maintaining a fantastic pace!

This song begins so well with the drumbeat, and then Alex Turner starts singing, and the drumbeat slows down. By the end, the drumbeat speeds up again. Wow, it's so spectacular!

Definitely the best modern rock song.

  20. Strife - Trivium

  21. American Idiot - Green Day

  22. Pull Harder On the Strings of Your Martyr - Trivium

  23. Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold

I think this is the most amazing drum song. Just listen to the drums in the song. This song is composed by "The Rev" Sullivan (R.I.P.). He is considered one of the best drummers ever.

The song contains good rhythms and great beats because it is a heavy metal song, and I think it is the best drum song of all time.

Perfection! How the hell did The Rev do that? Such an underrated drummer at his best in the song!

Man, I heard this while listening to it! This song is awesome, and The Rev did a magnificent job writing it! It is a masterpiece!

  24. In My Place - Coldplay

  25. Blacken the Cursed Sun - Lamb of God

This and Descending (same band) feature some of the best drumming I've ever heard.

  26. Wrath Upon Ourselves - As I Lay Dying

  27. Land of Confusion - Genesis

  28. Aja - Steely Dan

  29. Fire - The Jimi Hendrix Experience

This has to be number one and number two. It's technically brilliant and fits seamlessly with the song.

This is awesome drumming by Mitch Mitchell, who drives the song along.
