Top 10 Best Mariah Carey Songs

The Top Ten
1 We Belong Together

Call me a victim of my generation, but I grew up in the 2000s. Naturally, by the laws of radio exposure, "We Belong Together" is my favorite song from the Queen of All Divas. The fact that whenever it's playing on my headphones, in public, at school, and I'm lip-syncing every syllable exactly and acting out all the emotions as I'm listening in front of everybody as they all look at me like I'm some kind of delusional Looney Tune without a care, tells you that I really love this song!

Seriously, it's so comical. Sometimes I'll even start pointing at someone randomly, and they get this bizarre look like, "Is this kid on crack?" And there I sit, just keeping on swaying side to side with the music, like nobody's watching.

2 Hero

This song makes me feel hope in both myself and in the world. It really is so beautiful it can bring tears to the eye. "We Belong Together" is a good song, of course, but it's just so overrated. You don't get as much emotion from it as you do from this song.

Hero is by far my most favorite Mariah Carey song. Thank you, Mariah, for bringing this song into all of our lives. There is not one person who, when they hear the words to this song, cannot think of a moment or a person that best reflects the words in this song. Well done!

3 Fantasy

I am a big Mariah Carey fan, and ever since I listened to this rocking, upbeat song, I fell in love with it.

This song is awesome and very danceable. It is my sweet fantasy to meet Mariah Carey in person.

Best Mariah Carey song ever. No wonder it debuted at number one.

Unbelievably original and unforgettable. Perfect use of the Tom Tom Club sample. Absolutely brilliant.

The first song I ever heard by MC when I was very young. I've been in love with her ever since.

Even today, I can listen to this song on repeat. Simply iconic.

4 Without You

I don't think she has many good songs, but I do believe she has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Listening to this song just gives me goosebumps. What a range, what a tone, and what a passion you feel when you hear her singing this song.

Too bad no one can sing like this these days. And if they do on an album, they need autotune in a concert.

I don't care about this song's achievement. I don't care who is the writer of this song. I just think that this song is very catchy.

Mariah's voice is more than incredible in this song. That's what makes me love this song.

5 My All

Mariah's toughest song to sing and her most emotional song ever. This song is made to perfection. From the musical arrangement to her vocals to the lyrics. Such a masterclass. She should've won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Female Performance (I love Celine, but My Heart Will Go On is not her best vocal, while My All is Mariah top-notch) and should have won Song of the Year.

This song is so simple yet so complex at the same time. The range that she has and the notes that she hits are incredible.

I think this is Mariah's most unique song. There aren't many songs that sound like this.

6 Vision of Love

Her vocals on this track are insane! She showcases her entire capability.

Amazing range, whistle register, advanced runs, everything. The perfect song to introduce us to this legend!

Her first single, first hit, first top-ten, and first out of eighteen #1s! One of my favorite Mariah songs.

This was a really different tune in the 90s. Even she was surprised that the song became a hit.

7 Emotions

As much as I love Fantasy, Vision of Love, I Want to Know What Love Is, Hero, and even We Belong Together, Emotions is just my personal favorite. It means so much to me because it's the first Mariah Carey song I really got to know. I'm a millennium baby (2000), so I grew up in the Emancipation of Mimi era.

I always knew Always Be My Baby and All I Want for Christmas Is You, but Emotions... I just don't know how to describe the connection with this song. When I first heard Oh Santa!, I realized that Mariah Carey had an outstanding range with the whistle register, so I looked up her whistle register live. Emotions. This was the song where she showed it the most, in my opinion.

I'm not even kidding when I say that I want to start crying every time I hear her whistle registers. Mariah Carey is my biggest musical influence, and I want to be a legendary icon with her range and maybe achieve the whistle register. The whistle register is rare and special, so if I could be put in the same group as Mariah Carey one day, I'd die.

So that's why. Because in Emotions, the whistle register is fantastic, and I just have a deep personal, emotional connection with this song. It was also the first song I tried to sing the whistle register on. Emotions.

8 One Sweet Day

It is different and beautiful, different in the sense of being an alternative to the love and romantic themes that have been inflating most of her songs until One Sweet Day. The song is so deeply emotional, and the way Boyz II Men complement the song is beyond belief.

I can actually imagine both Aladdin and Jasmine singing that song since the voices are similar to their voices, especially to Aladdin's rougher speaking voice.

This song is her most successful song. In fact, it is probably the most successful song in the U.S. of all time. It's funny it's ranked 8 (currently) on this list.

9 Always Be My Baby

In my opinion, this is Mariah's best song. The chorus in this song is catchy and fun to sing along to. I love the melody!

Like the other comment said, I'm surprised this one isn't in the top ten.

I love this song so much! It's one of the best, along with Heartbreaker and Fantasy.

Listen to X-Girlfriend too. It's on the Rainbow album! Always the best from the Queen of Christmas!

Mariah has a lot of good songs, but Always Be My Baby is my favorite. She's really pretty in the music video too. It deserves to be in the top 3 at least.

10 All I Want for Christmas is You

Can't believe it just became a #1! So proud of Mariah, and this song literally defines Christmas.

This time shouldn't be about presents and money. It should be about your loved ones and friends. This song defines that and more, and that's why I love it.

Her highest-selling single of all time. Also, one of the top ten highest-selling female singles of all time. This is truly one of her greatest hits yet and has been for 17 years because every Christmas this song is always number one.

This is supposed to be the #1 song. I hear it on the radio stations all the time every Christmas, and it's the most popular modern Christmas song of all time.

The Contenders
11 Honey

This song is awesome and really shows how unique Mariah is. Also, the video is amazing, and Mimi is stunning!

Oh baby, I've got a dependency... always strung out for another taste of your honey...

12 Dreamlover

Listening to this on a summer day is the best thing in the whole world!

This song made me become a lamb and is truly my favorite along with Crybaby, To Be Around You, Irresistible, and Yours.

This is one of the best songs from Mariah Carey, and I really love this song very much. I even sing this excellent song in the morning shower! Super awesome song.

This one really takes me somewhere so nostalgic, yet I've never been in that somewhere before.

13 Love Takes Time

This is such a heartwarming, romantic song, and it is my all-time favorite song from Mariah Carey. She sings it so beautifully.

This is a great song and must be listed in the Top 10. Mariah really showed what she can do in this song. It's very pleasant to the ears.

Her second number-one single, the song that made me love Mariah.

14 Heartbreaker

Have you ever experienced a heartbreak in school, or have you been cheated on by a boyfriend? I have.

When I heard this song from Mariah Carey, I fell in love with it. This is my all-time favorite from Mariah Carey.

My favorite Mariah Carey song!

I love this song. I should have known right from the start that you would break my heart.

15 Breakdown

With "Breakdown," Mariah was able to combine Contemporary R&B and Hip-Hop into something so sexy, sultry, and intimate, yet classy, elegant, and sophisticated at the same time. Mariah took a break from her usual "vocal gymnastics," yet she was able to shine even without it. Her delivery had this subtle and muted quality, which gave the song an aura of mystery.

In contrast, the lyrics are intricately detailed and extremely honest. If you paid attention to the lyrics, you would feel yourself getting transported into the song, and you'd be able to see yourself in that situation. You wouldn't just feel every emotion and relate to it, you would live it. That's how vivid the song is when it comes to evoking visual imagery among its listeners.

All in all, this is a superb song about heartbreak that doesn't rely on generalized cliches and all that trite stuff. It's sad that this song wasn't given the support it deserved by Columbia, which consequently made the song unknown to the general public. But nonetheless, it is a classic among the Lambily. Other songs that give me a similar feeling are "The Roof" and "Underneath the Stars."

16 When You Believe

This song should be number 1 on the list. It's very inspirational, meaningful, and gives you faith. It really touches your heart.

Makes me believe that if we believe in something, a miracle could happen.

I think this song should be the first on this list and Whitney's list. It's so beautiful, so instructive, and it gives faith and strength when we're sad.

17 I Want to Know What Love Is

Just an amazing song. It makes me want to cry.

Her voice brings the words to life.

18 Music Box

This song is a sparkling masterpiece! It's like a beautiful lullaby coming from her beautiful soul!

19 Butterfly

I love many of Mariah's songs, but this one has to be my favorite. It is so emotional. It is almost like an emotional experience.

This song is based on Mariah's divorce from Tommy Mottola. A song is an experience, and this is a perfect example of it.

Her voice in this song is everything! The lyrics are the best in her career. It's just like reading a poem when I go through the lyrics.

The song has very deep emotional lyrics. It really can represent my feelings, which are hard to express to someone.

20 I Don't Wanna Cry

I first heard this song when I was a child, and I fell in love with her... until now.

So emotional. Sad yet powerful. That vibrato, falsetto, fortissimo, and high notes say it all.

21 Can't Let Go

Has this become forgotten? It has one of the most beautiful melodies of any Mariah song, and anyone can agree the production and the performance are subtle and gentle, and not so over-the-top singing and whistling as some of her other, later hits. It's a joy.

If ever there is a song that surpasses all songs, it's this one. The lyrics, the melody, the performance, the whistle! Maybe it's because it didn't get to number one because they removed it from the charts back then. But be that as it may, this should be either first or at worst second. It will always be first in my books.

22 Through the Rain

Her tone through the quiet parts is irresistible, and the climax of the song with the runs and all is amazing.

Her best song ever! I really don't understand why this song is number 44. It must be in the top 1-5!

My second favorite of hers, after "My All".

23 Sweetheart
24 Anytime You Need a Friend

I absolutely ADORE this song. Mariah Carey is probably one of the most talented female vocalists of all time, and this song has a very powerful message that you should always have faith in God to help you through tough times, especially since this was dedicated to her toxic relationship she used to have with her old husband.

Since the breakdown of my 32-year marriage, I felt very alone and deeply hurt. I heard this song along with Hero and I cried deeply at both of them. That's when I knew that God was with me and He gave me inner peace in my heart and soul. So, when I feel down, I listen to both songs now and I know that I am never alone. None of us are. Thank you, Mariah.
