Greatest Def Leppard Albums
This album has more pop-oriented songs than On Through the Night, which makes it less effective in terms of pure hard rock, guitar-driven songs. But the songs in Hysteria are very good songs. Some very good vocals from Joe Elliott - his best are in this album, like in "Rocket." So this album is very rich, very inspired. That is why it is one of their best. "Rocket," by the way, is pure magic.
The first three songs of the album are masterpieces. The next seven songs are remarkably good. Adrenalize shows a lot of lack of inspiration and much less inspired songs. Only Let's Get Rocked and Heaven Is could have been close to being in Hysteria.
This album is by all means flawless. Mutt Lange's production helped clean up the grime found on their previous albums while simultaneously marrying pop and metal to form an amazingly perfect album! I've always loved "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages," but "Too Late for Love" is by far the best song on the album. Its opening guitar riff and computerized sounds still give me chills to this day.
F-f-f-foolin'. Oh yes, the best Def Leppard album. I just knew it. Foolin' is my favorite from this album and my favorite rock song ever. I also like Rock of Ages. It's a brilliant album. If you don't have it, then get it on that Christmas list.
This album is brilliant from start to finish. The dueling guitars of Clark and Willis are the best ever! I've known about Def Leppard since 1983. They played Pyromania constantly at the skating rink. I first heard High 'N' Dry in 1988. At first, it was a distant third, but burnout of the big two moved this up. I also like Retro Active but hate the two ballads. Take them away, and Retro would be 4th. Diamond Star Halos would be 6th if it was on the list.
The songs are heavier and more hard rock, but their new stuff is pop and soft rock. When Hysteria came out, it killed me because all the songs are softer than High 'N' Dry and Pyromania. The best songs from the album are You Got Me Runnin', Lady Strange, Mirror Mirror, Bringin' on the Heartbreak, and Let It Go. Most of them you should be hearing on the radio instead of Pour Some Sugar on Me and Rocket.
This is indeed an album that is overlooked. The fact that it came out right in the midst of the grunge phase didn't help matters. Still, this is full of great songs. It really is Hysteria Part 2. It also features the very last of Steve Clark's songwriting, although all of Clark's riffs were played by Phil. I am not saying it is their best album, but I personally would rank it above High 'N' Dry.
Most underrated album they ever had. Came out at the wrong time.
Come on, Adrenalize is above this album? On Through the Night has much better hard rock-driven songs than Adrenalize. People, wake up. This is ridiculous. Do you have taste?
Back when they were a cool heavy metal band, before they ever sold out. No overproduced radio pop here, just hard rocking.
This is like Hysteria with a modern edge. There is a little Pyromania influence, but nothing significantly noticeable. Just a great album. Paper Sun is so underappreciated. That song would fit right in on Hysteria. It's the 90s version of Gods of War. Promises is an instant classic too. I'm sick of the hipsters crying about how they sold out from Hysteria onward. They just perfected their craft. Plus, Collen added a different flair to the band. Willis had a similar style to Clark, so the sound wasn't as dynamic. Back to Euphoria, great album. A couple of the ballads are a little weak, but the rest is great!
Oh my God, Slang is so bad compared to Retro Active. It is not even comparable. And so is Adrenalize. Are you telling me that She's Too Tough, Action, I Wanna Be Your Hero, and Ring of Fire are not better songs than Personal Property, Tear It Down, and Make Love Like a Man? Come on. I can't believe it. Don't you people have any taste?
This album doesn't get the credit it deserves because the songs were considered a collection of throwaways from the early '80s. I love every song except for the two overrated ballads. I would rank it 4th, behind Hysteria, Pyromania, and High 'N' Dry.
Great album overall. You can definitely feel the '80s vibe but with a modern twist to it.
New style, but still great music. Way better than most of the music from around that time period. Def Leppard made 20th-century music cool again.
This album is something new but still sounds like Leppard. That's why I like it.
Never ever have Def Leppard sounded so good live as on this album. You can tell the band worked really hard at getting the sound just right! The crowd is right into it, and so is the band! The flatbed tracks are also amazing. Hearing the band perform rare album tracks perfectly is the icing on the cake. This album is an absolute must for any Def Leppard fan!
