Top 10 Most Overrated Music Artists

The Top Ten
1 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard... read more

The Beatles weren't bad, but there were many bands, even from their time, that were as good. Before Sgt. Pepper's, the Beatles played what could be considered pretty cheesy music. I appreciate what they did after Pepper's, but they still don't come close to the Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan in the early to mid-sixties. While they were good in the late sixties, they can't hold a candle to Hendrix, Cream, and again the Stones. They were also surpassed by earlier acts such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard.

However, my overall opinion of '50s and early '60s rock is negative, given it was heavily influenced by blues. Artists like Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins, B.B. King, Albert King, and Robert Johnson make the Beatles sound lackluster in comparison.

It's funny how each comment against The Beatles has the same number of thumbs down. Almost as if a Beatles fan got upset that their favorite band was on the list and thumbed it down without even reading what was written. The Beatles made generic pop music to appeal to the masses. Nothing they ever did was especially experimental or groundbreaking, and yet people still hail them as the greatest band ever.

2 Beyoncé Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, is an American singer and actress, who started out in the popular pop/r&b girl group Destiny's Child. They had multiple top 5 hits such as "No, No, No", "Say My Name", "Bills, Bills, Bills", "Survivor", "Independent Women", "Bootylicious", and "Jumpin', Jumpin" from 1999 to 2004. After they broke up in 2006, Beyonce pursued her solo career, creating smash hits such... read more

Beyoncé is very much overrated. She's a copycat and a thief. There isn't an original bone in her body. She is very shady, and her fans are mean. She doesn't even try to ask them to chill out.

Her song "Formation" had nothing to do with black power. It's more like Beyoncé power because the song is all about herself and "defending herself" against the haters. It even pushes stereotypes. She claims she's a lady, but ladies don't walk around half-naked, shaking their junk in your face, and telling the world what she does behind closed doors.

Also, she claims to be for the black community, but when bad things were happening to the black community, she was silent. She's even at one point worn a coon/Sambo jacket (a racist depiction of a black person). If you don't believe me, look it up. This woman is a walking contradiction who ONLY does something to further her only agenda, which is to be rich and famous.

Sadly, no one cares or notices because she's pretty, can kind of sing and dance. I wish the world would wake up. What I think is sad is that our children lack good role models, so they have to look to entertainers as role models. These people are not heroes. They are just for entertainment.

3 The Jonas Brothers The Jonas Brothers are an American pop rock band. Formed in 2005, they gained popularity from their appearances on the Disney Channel television network.

These guys are the definition of overrated. Let's be honest, the only reason they are relevant is due to the nostalgia from when they were on Disney Channel. Nothing sets them apart from other groups, and their music is mediocre in my opinion. They deservedly take the top spot.

By the way, overrated doesn't always mean that the artist is bad. For example, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Eminem are on this list despite massive critical acclaim and tons of fans. They are examples of good artists that are overrated to an extent. The Jonas Brothers, however, are both overrated and bad.

Yeah, you people hate Kurt Cobain, Eminem, and Metallica, and all of those great artists? Tell me, what's so great about the Jonas Brothers? Nothing. They have been making mediocre music for way too long. I'm fed up, all the straight guys are fed up, they're only going on because Disney-addict girls love them, and gay people love their skinny jeans. Period. They suck. Please disappear, guys.

4 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1979, after which they hired Brian Johnson to front the band. Commonly referred to as a hard rock or blues rock band.

I think when all music is considered, AC/DC is pretty good. But whenever people mention rock from the 70s and 80s, AC/DC is so loved. When it comes to back in those days, I think many other guitarists are better. There are also way better drummers and better lyrics. One of the things I do like are the bagpipes, and I like them a lot. But just because I like them, doesn't mean I won't admit they're overrated.

Actually, they're overrated. I think they wrote only 2-3 good songs. They are a great band to know rock, but after that, there are many other musicians better than them, with greater riffs and melodic lines (not only the "aa" of Thunderstruck).

The embodiment of corporate rock. Stupid looks and a prefabricated and derivative discography.

You know rock elitists are the dumbest people on planet Earth when their fanboyism prevents them from realizing the flaws of this band.

5 Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The members currently include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ) and Rob Bourdon (drums). Linkin Park are associated with a mixture of Alternative Rock, Hip Hop and Techno. Some of their influences include Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, The... read more

It depends. They are overrated by a lot of music fans and casual listeners, but I would also say they are overhated by many people who say they have no talent at all. Also, most critics don't think much of them, which is where I am. I think they are an okay band, not particularly good or bad.

Linkin Park is on every 'good' list. These talentless hacks should be nowhere near the Top 50 in any 'Best' list. They are overpraised and deserve a billion times more recognition than what they are supposed to get. They are awful at all costs and the most overrated thing ever made in mankind. 0/10

They are good but brought nothing new to music! Rap and rock? Run DMC did the first mega rap rock hit with Walk This Way, which fused both genres perfectly. Rap and metal? Again, no! Bands like Korn were doing rap metal a few years before them. Yet, their fans give them all the credits for it. They do have some good music but nothing classic. Their fans overrate them too much!

6 Taylor Swift Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter.

She was born on December 13, 1989 in Reading, Pennsylvania. She is best known for writing personal songs and for having won 11 Grammys. She became interested in country music when she was around 9 years old, and after watching a documentary about Faith Hill, Swift felt that she should go to Nashville to begin a country music career. She... read more

Taylor Swift is one of the best for this generation of music. But she can't compare to the talent, creativity, and triumph that others have gone through. She is okay at singing and can play the guitar well, but that's it. Nothing special. She can't dance, direct, or act. She isn't in the top 50 voices of music. She is so overrated, and I don't understand it.

So overrated, has so many mediocre songs. Thought of as the best artist in many aspects but when it really comes down to it, she is lacking talent in every aspect.

It's one thing to be a musician, but being creative is another, and creativity is one thing she's not. It seems like all she ever sings about are breakups and constantly comparing herself to popular people, and nothing else, which gets kind of boring after a while. She is not creative at all when it comes to her music.

7 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock... read more

Led Zeppelin is a very bad band, always plagiarizing, with no originality. People like this excuse of a band.

No doubts! Led Zeppelin is the most overrated artist in my opinion.

I really like this band. But rock is not just Led Zeppelin!

8 Eminem Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is an American rapper, actor and music producer born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem has sold over 300 million records making him the bestselling hip-hop artist of all time. In addition to his solo career, he is a member of D12 and (with Royce da 5'9") half of the hip-hop duo Bad Meets Evil... read more

His record sales and praise don't compare to some rappers who are better, and I'm not saying that he's bad. I'm tired of the closeted racism that his fans have displayed toward other rappers, including on this site.

"Best rapper ever?" That's just insulting. Eminem had three good albums and a sub-par one, so he's the best? Meanwhile, rappers like Nas and LL Cool J get swept under the rug because this guy hogs the spotlight. Andre 3000 is a better rapper than Eminem, Nas is a better rapper than Eminem, and J. Cole is a better rapper than Eminem. I've also seen people say that 'Recovery' is better than 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'. What a joke. 'MBDTF' was amazing, while 'Recovery' would earn itself the proper Grammy if there was a category for "Let Down Of The Decade."

Queen at 72? I cannot go to any music lists without encountering these annoying Eminem fans. I rate this sexist and homophobic excuse for a rapper 0/10.

9 Justin Bieber Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. He currently resides in Ontario, Canada and is Christian. He is the son of author Pattie Mallette.

Justin Bieber is best known for his songs "Baby" and "What Do You Mean". He currently has seven videos that exceed 1 billion views on YouTube, which are "Baby", "What Do You Mean?", "Sorry", "Love Yourself",... read more

Justin Bieber can carry a tune, but so can a lot of people. He isn't a songwriter, nor is he a great musician. He's a manufactured product of a subpar music industry and is marketed primarily to young teenage girls. He has catchy songs, but so does Britney Spears, and that doesn't make her a great singer (she's not). If Justin had any musical talent beyond just singing on key, that would be different, but he is basically replaceable by another good-looking young singer.

Mark my words, in a few decades, no one will really remember him, at least not for his music. Maybe for his outlandish antics. There's nothing "great" about him, and his music will not stand the test of time.

He is the definition of a tool of the music industry. He doesn't deserve the hate nor harassment as a kid, but no one really talks about him outside of celebrity gossip.

I hate Beliebers, they only like him for his looks and not his music. Music is the whole point. Things aren't all just about looks. And no, Justin is not cute or hot, and his music sucks.

10 Madonna Madonna Louise Ciccone, known professionally as Madonna, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She influenced a lot of singers such as: Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears. She is known as Queen of Pop and at modern pop culture specifically in 2012 "Madge" or MDNA. She has 14 studio albums (Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer,... read more

She was nothing without Prince's help and thus became nothing but a memory, or at best, just gossip for the entertainment industry.

Has everybody gotten tired of her new songs and performances? Well, so have I, because she bores the hell out of me. Another thing is that she made the people of Colorado mad at her for bringing fake guns, which means they had a fear of gunfire just like in the movie theater while watching The Dark Knight Rises.

She was great in the 80s, but today there's nothing really good coming out.

The Newcomers

? Frank Zappa Frank Vincent Zappa was an American musician, songwriter, composer, record producer, actor and filmmaker.
The Contenders
11 One Direction One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) were a British-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously, Zayn Malik until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition... read more

Harry Styles was the backup plan when the other guy got canceled from his rise to stardom. The only people that talk about them are women stuck in their teens.

Come on, let's be honest. These guys are totally overrated. There are much better bands out there than 1D. They are only popular because of their looks and the kids and pre-teens who worship them. They aren't that good, people. Not compared to many other bands. I'll respect Simon Cowell for putting them together because the man does know how to get the most income, even if it isn't talent-based.

This band has no talent at all. They can't write their own songs, they use autotune, they loop every chorus, they're famous because of their looks, overplayed on the radio which makes their music stuck in people's heads. And the idiot named Niall thinks he can play the guitar if he can just strum a three-chord song, which is very easy for a six-year-old kid. He bought a Gibson Les Paul. I bet that guitar was crying for a real guitarist. And they make ugly synth beats.

12 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013, and again from 2019 to present day. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

This band is not artistic. They suck. How can you people say that Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Avenged are overrated? They're great. The Beatles are great, but I can see where you're coming from since everyone always says they're the best. As for Metallica, Lars Ulrich needed Pro Tools to keep him on time.

Especially bad. Avenged Sevenfold suck too, but there are absolutely no words in modern language to describe how awful they are.

Average band. They have some decent songs, but they're pretty whiny and the fanbase is cringy.

13 Bon Jovi Bon Jovi is a hard rock/pop rock band formed in 1983, which had a streak of successful albums in the late 1980s. The band originally consisted of lead vocalist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Ritchie Sambora (left in 2013), bassist Alec John Such (left in 1994), keyboard David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres. The band's most famous album is Slippery When Wet, released in 1986, and had multiple hit singles... read more

They are a 3 hit wonder. No one remembers but three songs that you occasionally hear at karaoke night.

14 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate... read more

I love Queen, but people only know about four of their songs. Freddie Mercury is not the best singer ever. Brian May is not the best guitarist ever. John Deacon is not the best bassist ever. And I hate how people think "uniqueness" is some argument as to why they're the best. Look at any praised band from the 60s-70s. Look at the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, etc. Stop trying to act like Queen is the most influential band of all time. Stop trying to act like they're the only unique band.

I see so many people always say, "Queen's underrated because people only know the big hits." The thing is, that is true for just about any band ever. By that definition, every band would be underrated. Every band has some gems hiding in their discography that people don't know. I mean, you all know The Beatles' "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be," but what about "Here, There and Everywhere" or "Happiness is a Warm Gun"? That's not how it works: If a band is well known and hailed for it, they are not underrated. Period.

15 U2 U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin. Formed in 1976, the group consists of Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. U2's early sound was rooted in post-punk but eventually grew to incorporate influences from many genres of popular music. Throughout the group's musical pursuits, they have maintained a sound built on melodic instrumentals. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery,... read more

16 Mariah Carey Mariah Carey, born March 27, 1970, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She is one of the biggest best-selling women in the music industry, with 18 number 1 records to her name. She is regarded as a sex symbol through her songs and music videos, and she is "well known" for her over-the-top sexy poses and for having breast implants. She is also known to be a diva, and she is well known for... read more

The one thing that bugs me about Mariah is her inability to make a consistent album. Somebody needs to watch over her while she's making these albums, because you don't put a super upbeat song, then a sad emotional ballad, then another upbeat dance jam, and then a mid-tempo just at the start of the album! Her songs are great as stand-alone songs, but trying to listen through her albums is very hard.

I also think she lacks emotion in her ballads. A lot of the time, I find her ballads very boring and unfinished, and I actually love good ballads. Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Nicole Scherzinger, James Ingram, Peabo Bryson, Whitney Houston - all of these artists have made some great ballads. They have the right amount of emotion where they can make you just feel it in your soul, and even get emotional. Mariah does not have that. She's much better at making upbeat songs, or sexy songs. Ballads are not for her. Sometimes her voice even cracks in her more recent ballads, no thanks!

17 Blink 182 Blink-182 is a pop-punk band formed in 1992. The original lineup consisted of Mark Hoppus on bass guitar and vocals, Tom DeLonge on guitar and vocals, and Scott Raynor on drums. Raynor was fired from the band in 1998 and replaced by drummer Travis Barker. They gained mainstream popularity after the release of the album "Enema of the State." The band has gone on to produce eight studio albums during... read more
18 Selena Gomez Selena Marie Gomez is an American actress and singer. She is best known for songs like "Come & Get It", "Good For You", "Same Old Love", and "It Ain't Me". Selena Gomez's voice is mezzo-soprano but she usually sings in alto. She is best known for her role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place.

She's hot, that's it. She coat-tailed from Disney then hopped on the Bieber-fever express. But I hear she has put her ex-friend's kidney to good use after the surgery. Notice I've said nothing about her music. Because there is nothing to talk about.

Should be in the top 5.

19 Drake Aubrey Drake Graham, known professionally as Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, born on October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Canada. He started his career on Canadian reality show "Degrassi: The Next Generation".

Mediocre at best. He doesn't add anything to the genre nor does he really excel at anything.

His top hits and popularity are more due to his producers than him as an artist. No one in real life, outside of entertainment media discussions, really talks about Drake. His music is just something to play in the background. At best, he is for people that have low standards or just don't listen to much of anything else. I'd respect him more if he admitted to his ghostwriters and if he didn't use his son for publicity after Pusha T called Drake out for trying to abandon his child.

He's one of those rappers who doesn't say he's the best or pretends to be. Plus points because he's a meme. But any rapper who makes cash like that gets a vote from me.

His 2018 hits all went straight to #1 on the Hot 100 despite not really being that good. In My Feelings is god-awful but has been #1 for 9 weeks.

20 Lady Gaga Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress.

The first time I saw a band photo of Slipknot, I thought they were some Gwar style comedy metal band who were making fun of wannabe-tough guy nu-metal. With the masks and the nine band members, I thought there was no way this band was serious. It had to be a joke. But no, they were actually a real band.

In my opinion, Slipknot is not a good band. But somehow, everybody is talking about them. I don't know why. They are very overrated.

23 Britney Spears Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American actress and singer who was born in McComb, Mississippi, and grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana. 24 BTS BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band formed in Seoul in 2013. RM is the leader and the other members are V, Jimin, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, and Jungkook

I don't understand why people like them so much. They have no musical talent whatsoever, and their songwriting skills suck. Listen to this: "Sing song when I'm walking home, jump up to the top, LeBron." That's literally a piece of their song. Not kidding. They're way overrated.

I just don't get it.

25 Kendrick Lamar Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American rapper and songwriter. Raised in Compton, California, Lamar embarked on his musical career as a teenager under the stage name K-Dot, releasing a mixtape that garnered local attention and led to his signing with indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE).

Most overrated rapper of all time. No debating. Nas is not really overrated. 2Pac is a legend and is not overrated. Biggie is a little overrated. Jay-Z is overrated now, but he used to be a good rapper. Eminem is extremely overrated, but he's done his work to be talked about as one of the best, even if I don't enjoy his music. But this guy, Mr. Kendrick Lamar, is about as overrated as it gets.

It's one thing to have talent and lyrics, but if you can't put together a good song with all of that, then I just don't know what is wrong with you. TPAB sounded like a bunch of noises, not music. It had three or so good songs. If he could put those lyrics over better production, maybe he wouldn't be as bad, but his voice is still a problem. His voice sounds like a 12-year-old who just got kicked in the groin. He needs to stop that cartoonish crap, especially if he's trying to be lyrical and he wants us to take him seriously.
