Top 10 New Beat Songs You Didn't Know You Needed Until Now
What's new beat? It's an '80s electronic music genre that emerged from Belgium's underground club scene in 1987, drawing from styles such as EBM, new wave, hi-NRG, and acid house.
It has a relatively slow tempo, heavy electronic rhythms, and dark synth lines. There aren't many in existence that don't sound tinny today, so here's a small collection I amassed just for this.
-
Freak - Zac Waters
This song was released at the end of 2017, and can I just say, WOW, what a way to enter the music scene. So dark and truly deserving of the title Freak. Freaky, but it's damn good.
-
Greatness - Karma Fields
Greatness is kind of like New Beat Hip-Hop, if that makes sense. Talib Kweli really hit every verse well. They make a really good team.
-
Truth and Malice - Intercom
Truth and Malice is considered New Beat Progressive House, which makes more sense than New Beat Hip-Hop, and rightly so. If this song had come out way sooner, it would've been #2.
-
Numb - Fwlr
New Beat Liquid Drum & Bass makes even less sense than New Beat Hip-Hop, but that's why this song is good. I'm a BIG fan of Drum & Bass, so there's a little bias here, but if it had come out sooner, it would've been higher on the list.
-
Murder - Soulji
Since Soulji is mainly a House & Techno producer, it only made sense that he would do New Beat sometime, right? I mean, it's technically Dark Techno. Whatever you think it is, this song is no doubt good.
-
Infinite - Notaker
New Beat Synthwave? Well, okay, that doesn't sound too bad, as long as they don't make New Beat Happy Hardcore. This one is kind of long, but it's worth listening to.
-
Backup - Topi
Topi's unique style isn't usually what comes to mind when you think of New Beat. But since New Beat is technically part of Industrial-type music, you eventually come to say that this is fine. Even if you don't like Topi's style, that's fine. I understand. It took me a while to come around to him, especially because it's New Beat Trap/Moombahcore.
-
Automaton - Robotaki
The first New Beat song I ever listened to. I'm not a huge fan of Robotaki, but hey, you do you, I guess.
-
Saving Light (INTERCOM Remix) - Gareth Emery & STANDERWICK
Nothing much to say about this song. Just classic New Beat.
-
Saving Light (Notaker Remix) - Gareth Emery & STANDERWICK
New Beat is a genre you thought would've died by #8, correct? There's actually quite a bit more than just this list. It's not the most obscure genre, but in my opinion, it definitely needs a bit of love. Go and support the artists who make New Beat!
