Best Songs on Soulfly's Primitive
Primitive is the second studio album released by Soulfly. The album was recorded at The Saltmine Studio Oasis in Mesa, Arizona, and was released on September 26, 2000, through Roadrunner Records.
This album continues the sound established on Soulfly's self-titled debut, which itself was a continuation of the sound heard on Roots by Sepultura. The style of this album is a fusion of nu metal with tribal influences.
Primitive also began a trend that would continue on every Soulfly album released afterward, where a self-titled instrumental track called "Soulfly" would appear with sequels. As of November 13, 2017, there are ten such tracks. The one featured on this album is "Soulfly II" (stylized in Roman numerals).
Many guest musicians are featured on tracks from this album. The most noteworthy include:
Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Stone Sour, who appears on the track "Jumpdafkup." That song also features sludge metal-style riffs.
Tom Araya from Slayer, who appears on the track "Terrorist."
Grady Avenell and Chino Moreno from Will Haven, who both appear on the song "Pain."
Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon, who features on the track "Son Song." The song itself has a sound reminiscent of Alice in Chains.
