Top 10 Track Numbers on an Album Which are Usually the Best Songs

The Top Ten
  1. 4

Metallica's Fade to Black, One, Jump in the Fire, The Day That Never Comes, Until It Sleeps, The Unforgiven I and II, and Fade to Black!

Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused, Since I've Been Loving You, Stairway to Heaven, The Crunge, Nobody's Fault But Mine

Pearl Jam - Sirens, Light Years, Given to Fly, Why Go

I could go on, but it goes without saying that 4 is the best.

"Thirteen" by Big Star, "Helpless" by CSNY, "Walk Among the Cobras, Pt. 1" by Dan Sartain, "Heart of Gold" and "Down by the River" by Young!

I'd also mention David Bowie's "Life on Mars?" and "Starman" and Billy Joel's "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant."

  2. 1

Often where a band will put the lead single. Some of my favourites include David Bowie's "Changes" and "Five Years," The Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice," Temples' "Shelter Song," and Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

  3. 2

The Beatles' big five albums alone... "Norwegian Wood," "Eleanor Rigby," "With a Little Help from My Friends," "Dear Prudence," and "Something."

  4. 6

Billie Jean. Back in Black. Enough said.

  5. 3

Forget about what actually is in the world. Track 3 should be one of the best on the album.

The first song comes. This should be a catchy one to grip your listener's attention, but it shouldn't be the best. They've already bought the album, they like the band. Track 2 should be a powerful one. Not necessarily the best, but powerful in concept. Interesting, with lyrics that grip the listener and make them think. Every band has songs like these. If none are necessarily powerful, then go with the most powerful track.

Then track 3. This one should be the second best. Leave your listener stunned. They want more. They crave more. Track 4 should be the hit single, so that track 3's beauty can still be sinking in. They're listening to a song they like, but they don't have to think about it much.

Tracks 5 and 6 are okay, not the best on the album. However, only one of them can be a forgettable song. They're both good, but every band has its forgettables. One of them can afford to be forgettable, but the other needs to be catchy.

Then, bam. Track 7 is just the best song ever. Listeners are stunned, amazed. It's just so good. Again, follow with another hit.

Track 9 is a fun song. Casual. You've got the listener hooked. Give them the real band. Show your true colors.

Then, blam. Track 10 comes. Ten's the third best on the album. It's so good. You were feeling one with the band, but this is just more genius. You're the most shocked you've been so far. Eleven is the fourth best on the album, keeping the shock up.

Finally, it should finish with a nice closing. A happy or suspenseful song is best. End on a high note, or make the listener want more. Either way, I believe this is the best way to be entertained by an album.... read more

  7. 8

  8. 7

I think this one should be higher. If I decided the order of my songs on an album, I'd set the quality in this order: 7, 2, 10, 4, 1, 9, 8, 3, 6, 11, 5. More or less.

  9. 9

  10. 10

This has to be higher. You've got Raining Blood and Before I Forget. Two of the most popular heavy metal songs.

  11. The Contenders
  12. 11
