Top 10 Ways Men Have Fallen Behind in Modern Society
-
We encourage self-destructive behaviors
Especially in the ghetto, we encourage self-destruction. Smart guys are considered know-it-alls. Professional career guys are seen as saps. Speaking English properly is labeled as nerdy.
Avoiding drugs is for goody-two-shoes. Being anti-violence is viewed as weak. Respecting women is referred to as white-knighting, and so on.
Most men are very aggressive and violent. Many are alcoholic drinkers.
-
We find dating much more difficult
Women are pickier. Approaching women in real life is harder due to our tech-based society and possible claims of sexual harassment, and online dating isn't lucrative for most men.
-
We cannot cope with a changing definition of masculinity
Decades ago, being masculine meant something different, perhaps being dominant and tough. But now, men need to fire on both cylinders. They need to be warriors, but they also need to know how to nurture and communicate.
-
We need women, but women don't need us
There are nice, caring, funny, and helpful men that I know, like family members, found family, and family friends.
It's nice they're around, so I do need them.
Many women are choosing to focus on their careers and be single. After some bad experiences with men, many women are beginning to question why they need men in the first place. It's fine for them, but for many men, this is unpalatable.
As a male myself, I'm afraid that this list is kind of true.
-
We lack an emotional support network
It's okay for women to confide in each other, expose their vulnerability, and emotions. But for men, you can't be soft or weak.
I think everyone should have emotional support and access to therapy.
-
We are falling behind academically
Men are more afflicted by learning disabilities like ADHD and autism. They have lower high school graduation rates and lower college enrollment rates.
I have both conditions and I get good grades... when I bother to do my work. So maybe you have a point there.
-
We let porn destroy our initiative with women
Primarily a male market. Why go out and talk to girls when we can get off on high-speed porn instead? That instant release is hurting us in the long run.
-
We let excessive video gaming kill our brain's reward system
More accurately, instant gratification is hijacking our reward system, which is not limited to video games and fast food. Due to more technology, we have more forms of entertainment at our disposal.
Gaming in moderation is fine. But many games are designed to be played for hundreds of hours. Instant feedback in a game stimulates dopamine in a way that real life can't.
Technology is probably ruining my brain in other ways, but I'm proud to say I'm not a gamer.
-
We find it harder to be the breadwinner
The recession hit, and many blue-collar jobs are gone. It's a big blow to male pride.
-
We show a lack of respect for other people
We see disrespect directed at various groups: Hispanics, Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Aussies, fat guys, gays, trans kings and queens.
