Top 10 Best Invader Zim Characters

This is a list of the best characters from Invader Zim, an animated television series on Nickelodeon. The show centers on an alien named Zim, whose mission is to conquer Earth and enslave the human race.
The Top Ten
1 Zim Zim is the titular protagonist and anti-hero of the American animated series Invader Zim, created by Jhonen Vasquez for Nickelodeon.

Zim is a very interesting character because, unlike most, he is an antihero. He plays both protagonist and antagonist. He does a lot of bad things, but honestly, he is not evil. He is just not sympathetic towards others. This might not be his fault - I don't think he understands how to give a normal response to issues. He tries to do his best, but when it comes down to it, he is really just super childish, and sometimes it is kind of adorable.

He has a lot of quirks, which I think only makes him better. The way he speaks and his odd behavior all add greatly to his character. He may seem on edge, but he actually shows a lot of restraint. Just think about it: he rarely does things to specific people and prefers not to associate with anyone if unprovoked. But he is bullied at school and acts as a result. It actually brings a little bit of sympathy to an otherwise unsympathetic character.

He is overall just goofy, and while he is bad, he is just like a misbehaving kid. Even his rivalry with Dib just comes across to me as very violent kid squabbles. It's almost like a weird mutual hatred friendship. Zim makes dumb choices but is actually very smart. I could go on about a lot of things, but really, I just love him as a character. He is not perfect and is different from other characters in the series, which makes him all the more likable. Even though he does bad things and opposes people, you have to like him. It is a weird combination that works just perfectly.

The show overall is genius, and everyone is likable. You root for both sides: Zim, who is antagonistic but plays the protagonist, and Dib, who is the protagonist but plays the antagonist because of the show's twisted perspectives.

2 Gir

Gir is, with little to no doubt, the most hilarious cartoon character of all time! His unpredictable actions and quotes bring some of the most unique and enjoyable comic relief ever. For example:
"I'm gonna sing the Doom Song now! Doom doom doom-doom..."
"Hi, floor! Make me a sammich!"
"Your head smells like a puppy!"
"There's waffle in 'em!"
"It's got chicken legs!"
"Yay! We're doomed!"
'enough said.

Gir is a funny robot, often shown on Hot Topic clothing for being such a humorous character. He has the perfect lines, making me laugh every time! Gir is my favorite, no doubt about it.

3 Gaz Membrane

She's like the most relatable character on the show. While Dib is busy stopping Zim from taking over the world, she would rather play video games, even though she knows Zim is an alien.

Gaz is so underrated! She is lonely and always being annoyed by Dib and Zim. She is a relatable character who wasn't shown much. There is so much to learn about Gaz!

Gaz is kind of like me, except the differences are that I'm a boy, I'm not as aggressive or angry as she is, and I'm not goth. Either way, she's a great and relatable character.

4 Dib Membrane

Dib.

Oh, Dib. How I love Dib. He is my favorite, and he always will be. (I'm sorry, Zim, I know you're the main character and all, but Dib will rule my world.) He is just TOO adorable. His scythe-shaped hair is so EPIC! He has OCD and is OBSESSED with the paranormal.

But he's misunderstood and labeled as "crazy." When he cried in "The Frycook What Came from All That Space," it just broke my squishy human heart.

I LOVE YOU, DIB-STINK!

Dib is the most sympathetic character for sure. I enjoyed the first season way more than the second one, partly because before, the conflict between Dib and Zim was pretty even, with equal amounts of misery plaguing both sides. Dib actually scored some sweet victories, and it wasn't predictable at all.

5 Professor Membrane

Professor Membrane is the Albert Einstein of the show and also Dib and Gaz's dad.

6 The Almighty Tallest Purple

All the Purple Tallest cares about is food, which makes him very funny.

He's more like Ernie, while the Almighty Tallest Red is more like Bert.

I love how he is voiced by the same guy who voices Pleakley from Lilo & Stitch.

7 The Almighty Tallest Red

The only sane Irken, possibly, and frankly, he's just... hot. He's the one who actually tries to fix problems that go on in the Massive, instead of running around in circles.
First cartoon crush ever.
Kudos to everyone who loves Tallest Red! Because I do too. Brofist.

He reminds me of Conan O'Brien because their voices sound so similar.

He's more like Bert, while the Almighty Tallest Purple is more like Ernie.

8 Tak

Tak is a tragic character who has had her chance for a good life taken away from her. There is an extra layer of depth to her that makes you feel sorry for her, despite the fact that she is an antagonist. She is like Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender in that sense.

On top of that, her mannerisms are a ton of fun to watch, her poem is pure brilliance, her voice is amazing, her plan is very diabolical, and her laugh is deliciously maniacal, making her not only my favorite character in the show but also helping to create my favorite episode of the show.

9 Ms. Bitters

Despite how Ms. Bitters has a very mean and grumpy personality combined with a sadistic sense of humor, who else but her could bring comedy and darkness to the show? This is what makes her memorable.

Who else needs to have a teacher with a mean, grumpy, and funny personality like Ms. Bitters? She's awesome!

You, you're being transferred to the underground classroom (AAHH!), and you - I'm just tired of you.

10 Keef

Keef was such a nice character. He befriended Zim and still kept his friendship. Yeah, he's a bit annoying to Zim, but kind of cute.

The Contenders
11 Minimoose

Okay, Minimoose is only in one episode, but he's so cute! He's also in the unfinished episodes and even destroyed Zim's base. A cute super weapon. That HAS to be funny.

12 Bloaty
13 Zim's Computer
14 Old Kid

Old Kid only appeared with a line once, but it's so funny that you can only hope the show comes back with more lines from Old Kid!

15 Invader Spleen
16 Piggy
17 Skoodge

Skoodge rocks. He was the first invader to conquer his assigned planet. The Tallest failed to kill him off, and he's just plain adorable.

He's a down-on-his-luck character who never gives up and is actually nice. He's an Irken, but he's really a sweetheart. Bless his little Irken heart.

He needs to be put into the comics! Please!

18 Melvin

Melvin is a human boy who is seen in two episodes, "Bestest Friend" and "The Wettening." In "Bestest Friend," he is seen with a few other characters, and the group of kids is called "the rejects" by another popular girl named Jessica. In "The Wettening," he is the boy who eats paste, which might remind you of episodes from other cartoons like The Powerpuff Girls and many others.

Melvin may not have many lines, but I like him because he wants to be an astronaut, like me.

19 Mimi
20 Vort Prisoner 777

Vort Prisoner 777 may be shown very little in the show, but he is responsible for a lot of the events. He supplies Zim with technology.

21 Invader Tin

Although most don't know Invader Tin, she is a character. She is in the first episode, though she doesn't have a speaking part.

22 Jessica

Jessica is a popular human girl seen in three different episodes. The most well-known is Best Friends, where she is seen talking badly about Zim, Dib, and the rejects to the rest of her popular friends.

23 Zim's Roboparents

The two robo-parents are Zim's cover parents, but Zim has no real parents. The robo-parents are really funny yet weird.

24 The Moose
25 Gretchen

Gretchen is the weird human girl with spiky purple hair, and braces. She is seen in the episode "best friends" in the corner with the "losers".

She should have had a bigger role.
