Best Animation Studios
No one does animation quite like Pixar. Their computer graphics were and are extremely innovative and each one of their movies touches your heart in a certain way, which the exception of some obviously.
Pixar is amazing, mostly because unlike other animation studios, they take their audiences seriously, most animation studios just make dumb, goofy kids films, with 1 exception, dream works because they had Kung Fu Panda 2 and How to train your dragon 2, which also appealed to older kids and adults, but Pixar always does these kind of films, it's so easy for studios to just make silly kids movies, but Pixar always puts effort into their movies to make them enjoyable for everyone, and almost all their movies have a ton of moments that just pull at your heart strings, they are so good at making an entertaining story that kids can enjoy and leveling it out with dramatic moments, and I'll just say it, Inside Out is my favorite movie they've made, it's hilarious and really really touching, I almost cried a quite a bit of times in that movie, I hope Pixar keeps their films like this, because Pixar doesn't make kids films, they make good films that are kid-friendly.
All of its movies are literally decent at worst.
I give Toy Story an A for its purely talented cast, deep meaning, and revolutionary deeds.
I give A Bug's Life a B+ for its creative animation, positive message and a mixed-bag story.
I give Toy Story 2 an A+ for its innovative moments, breathtaking animation and etc.
I give Monsters' Inc an A- for its reminiscent-to-Disneyland animation, heartfelt moments and magic.
I give Finding Nemo an A for its touching moments, lively atmosphere and three-dimensional characters.
I give The Incredibles an A- for being one of the most-action-packed movies ever.
I give Cars a B- for its decent animation, weak story and healthy message.
I give Ratatouille an A for its artistic themes, strong humor and believable characters.
I give WALL-E a B+ for its bold lessons, creative characters and knowledge of what it wants to be.
I give Up an A+ for its heartfelt depth, cultural animation and strong cast.
I give Toy Story 3 ...more
I like Disney, I like Dreamworks, but I love Pixar.
Pixar, for me, is just a master of original stories.
Disney leans heavily on story adaptations especially fairy tales with some original stories here and there (like Brother Bear, Zootopia, Home on the Range, Dinosaurs, The Emperor's New Groove) that are just hit and miss.
Dreamworks just doesn't have a consistent image. Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, then there's Home, Shark Tale, Boss Baby, Shrek 3, Bee Movie... You just can't have any clear expectation from Dreamworks, and that is bad.
Pixar however is different. Whatever they come up with will be marked with high, or at least moderate, expectations. Even Cars 2. And I don't even think that Cars 2 is that bad, especially if you compare it to the wreck that other companies have made. And that put Pixar above other else.
Disney animation studios has been gaining momentum since they released Bolt, This was followed by a stream of new hits including The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, and most recently Big Hero 6. Disney doesn't need Pixar to keep the brand alive anymore because their own animation studios have just entered what many animation fans are calling the new Disney Renascence. We just have to hope Zootopia, Moana, Giants, and Frozen 2 keep the studio producing new and fresh material to entertain and endear people just as much as their golden era and renascence period films.
Disney has created over 400 films, not only animation but live action as well. They're one of the oldest animation companies, and created the first full length animated film, Snow White, which lighted the way for all Animation movies to come. Let me remind you of the few Disney masterpieces: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Fantasia, Mary Poppins, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Peterpan, Atlantis: The lost Empire. Not to mention Tarzan, Hercules, Lilo and Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, and my favorite, HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. (If you haven't seen that you should, its fantastic).
Disney should have the number one spot. Frozen is the fifth highest grossing movie of all time and they have so many great classics like Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book to name a few. They also own Pixar who deserves the number two spot, half of the movies they have made have won the Academy Award for best Animated Feature, and all but two were nominated. The only films Dreamworks have made that can even be mentioned as being the same caliber as Disney are Shrek (just the first one not the sequels) and How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Disney is amazing. They have some if not the greatest special effects in movies. One of their many movies mighty joe young was made in 1998 and the movie is not a cartoon. Disney made a 15ft gorilla look like a real live gorilla that you would see in the zoo today, only bigger. Jurassic Park was made around the same time and Disney's effects were a lot better. Another amazing effects movie was Dinosaur. It was made around the same time as mighty joe young, maybe in the early 2000's but like MJY, it was not supposed to be animated like a cartoon. All the dinosaurs were animated, no machines, and it looked like real dinosaurs that you picture them to look like. you can see the skin features and everything.
100 times better than Pixar, the movies are funny to both younger viewers and older viewers. Dreamworks creates more random movies which usually work quite well. I do think the animation is still behind Pixar's, but non of the less the animation is great. I also think Dreamworks creates great sequels as the sketches and films they make are funny and unique, making the viewer at home waiting to see more.
Dreamworks is an amazing animation company, and I'm really happy that it's better than Disney. I'm not saying Disney is rubbish, but half of the disney films like High School Musical and Teen Beach Movie are dumb. Whereas Dreamworks hasnt got a single movie that should deserve to be hated. And Dreamworks have amazing storylines, especially with How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek, Megamind, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. Dreamworks put effort and care into their movies, and unlike Disney who SOMETIMES create bad movies (e. G High School Musical) just to make themselves look like they have more animations, Dreamworks don't have more films than Disney, but the quality and effort put into the films is better. I just want more people to notice this. And another thing I love about Dreamworks is how each film is different. Most Disney films are about "true love" but Dreamworks have differnt, unique storylines. Also, most Dreamworks sequels are better than the first and have exciting twists and ...more
In Dreamworks' movies they show creativity. In Disney, all the movies have same plot line and almost all the stories are about fairy tales. Frozen isn't the best. It can't be compared to "The Croods" because frozen has the same ending as beauty and the beast, the only difference is that in beauty and beast, the beast dies and in frozen, Anna get frost but at same time Croods is totally a different story. It should have gotten the Oscar.
Every Dreamworks' movies show creativity and variety but it is not found in Disney. So Dreamworks should be the #1.
I love dreamworks the're movies are absolutely fantastical each one is better than the previous one, although pixar and Disney are really good I don't really like them. Every one has different choices you know. So E.G. How to train your dragon is better than kung fu panda. I think dreamwork's movies are better even though they are fewer than Disney or pixar. I especially love the penguins of Madagascar, kung fu panda and how to train your dragon. I think dreamworks deserves the crown.
You would either be captivated with Spirited Away, be on the edge of your seat with Princess Mononoke, cry and feel the characters with Grave of the Fireflies, laugh and play along with My Neighbour Totoro, take a look at the breathtaking animation with Howl's Moving Castle, relax with Kiki's Delivery Service, look in awe with Castle in the Sky, become a child with Ponyo, be amazed by the unique story with When Marnie was There, look in amazement with Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, feel with The Wind Rises, be interested with The Secret World of Arrietty, sing along with Whisper of the Heart, laugh along the moment with My Neighbours the Yamadas, see the beautiful animation with The Tale of Princess Kaguya, reflect with Only Yesterday, cheer on the characters with From Up on Poppy Hill, be excited with The Cat Returns, be grateful for Porco Rosso, or rethink your choices with Pom Poko. Ghibli films offer unique, beautiful stories that you will enjoy.
I was torn between this and Pixar, but what convinced me to choose this one is that Pixar did have a few films I didn't like that much (Cars, mediocre, Brave, boring, Cars 2, terrible, Finding Nemo, not bad but way overrated), where Studio Ghibli on the other hand every film I've seen from them I loved. Their films range from relaxing and fun, deep and meaningful, creative and charming, and even dark and sad. My favorite film by them is probably Spirited away (which is overall my 3rd favorite animated film, under The Lion King and Wall-e, but both of them had more flaws than Spirited away). The only film I've seen by them that I didn't give a 10/10 to (in my head) was Ponyo, and I only did so because it was a tad weaker than their other films, but it is still very good, good enough for a 9/10. I've just discovered them a week at the time of this writing (I mean I knew about them but I haven't seen any of their movies until then) so maybe I'll get bored of them, but at the moment they ...more
I was only introduced to their work in 5th grade but man this studio is amazing. I can even compare their quality to that of Disney but at the same time I cannot. Ghibli does their own thing and their aura is a unique one that while it can compete with Disney's aura and quality it is still much irreplaceable. Not only that but the animation to all of their works I've seen is gorgeous, probably the best that I've ever seen (sorry Disney and Pixar) and easily the most defining trait of their films, but their movies also have relatable characters and well-written plots. Yeah apparently people consider it the Disney Studios of Japan but I honestly don't care because both animation companies are absolutely wonderful.
Also why the heck is DreamWorks ahead of these guys? Yeah DreamWorks has some good films but oi their history is a gruesome and complicated one indeed.
When I introduce Studio Ghibli to people, the first thing I say is, “it’s Japan’s Pixar”. So many great movies, great music, great characters, great stories, great visuals, great everything. Every Ghibli movie has a certain whimsical feeling that puts you in a relaxed yet immersed state of mind. They’ve created countless classics such as My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Princess Mononoke, and my personal favorite, Spirited Away.
20th Century Fox have Blue Sky Studios titles as Ice Age, Rio, VeggieTales (Not DreamWorks), Ferdinand, Robots, Horton Hears a Who!, Peanuts, Epic, Spies in Disguise and other Blue Sky movies, next to The Simpson’s and Bobs Burgers
This is the home of many beloved sitcoms such as The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama, American Dad, Family Guy and it's spinoff The Cleveland Show. It's also home to the Ice Age movies, Rio and The Simpsons Movie.
The Simpsons have been on the air for like 24 years and counting. That alone makes Fox worthy of #1 and I haven't even mentioned Futurama and Family Guy.
Fox has such iconic sitcom families like the Simpsons, the Flanders, the Wiggums, the Griffins and the Hills among others.
They have more iconic characters than any other animation studios. About 8 of their cartoon characters would make the top twenty list; Scooby-Doo, Fred Flintstone, Tom & Jerry, Yogi Bear, any of the Smurfs, George Jetson, and many others. I think this should be #2; right behind Disney.
P.S. I never really liked Disney anyways.
This is the home of Flintstones, Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear, Top Cat, Huckleberry Hound, Tom & Jerry and Wacky Races.
The animation is so slick it's rivaled only by one guy. The legendary Tex Avery
They suck, I can animate better than them and I'm not even good at it

This studio deserves higher because of SpongeBob. Band Geeks, Chocolate With Nuts, Pizza Delivery, The Camping Episode, Frankendoodle, Graveyard Shift such as the classics!
They gave us Rocko, SpongeBob, Invader Zim AND Avatar. How could you NOT love at least one of those four shows?
I Don't Like Spongebob Squarepants and The Penguins Of Madagascar Male Characters Heroes Feels Screaming, Sad, Depressed, Falling Down of Screaming of Scared, Crying, Running Away of Screaming of Scared, and Tide Up. And I Hate Bubble Guppies Males Characters Feels Shocked, Screaming, Sad, Crying, Worried, and Scared
Because of Avatar and spongebob I think this should be higher. Like 6
This studio was very underrated but I wish Aardman has another Aardman branch at the US instead of just one studio in Bristol, England. This studio was well-known for making such unique stop-motion animation and it's iconic characters like Wallace and Gromit, Shaun The Sheep, and others. And speaking of movies, Early Man will come out this 2018 and I hope it was good.
When it comes to quality stop motion animation, Aardman is superior to the style. In fact Aardman is probably the greatest animation studio regardless.
Wallace and Gromit, shaun the sheep, chicken run. The films produced by this company are amazing it should be top!
Aardman is the flip side to Laika in terms of stop motion. Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run and Pirates! Band of Misfits.
Awful studio. The first Despicable Me was very good, but the second and third ones were pretty bad. Minions was awful, Sing was bad as well, The Secret Life of Pets was mediocre, the Grinch movie wasn’t that great, and the Lorax movie was awful.
I know this studio has to pay their dues like Pixar and DreamWorks have, and those studios deserve their perches. But I can see Illumination pouncing on them from behind, especially if they continue to make characters and stories as colorful and creative as The Lorax and Despicable Me. One of their greatest strengths is making characters that appeal to everyone. The character of Gru is truly lovable and relatable to all ages, and the Lorax himself was really a tribute to the work of Seuss. I love the work this studio has done and am so looking forward to their future ventures. Currently I feel they're severely underrated.
Illumination is one of the worst animation studios around. The only great movie they made was Despicable Me. DM 2 and the first SLOP are decent but that's about it. The rest of their movies are mediocre.
They would make more movies. Like these characters; Lorax, Cat in the Hat, Gru, The Minions (Dave, Stuart, Kevin, Tim, Jerry, Carl etc. ) Hop Bunnies...
They made Iron Giant and all the DC Animated films. Enough said here.
Looney Tunes tom and jerry Popeye Scooby doo Flintstones CN
I Love Scooby-Doo, and I Like Looney Tunes, Tom And Jerry, Batman, and Flintstones. But I Don't Like Scooby-Doo Male Characters Heroes Feels Screaming, Sad, Crying, And Depressed
I Hate Teen Titans Go! on Cartoon Network
VeggieTales is an Japanese Anime for Tokyo B.I. - Big Idea Limited (Tokyo, Japan) and other anime programming from 20th Century Fox Animation which turned owned by Paramount Animation, a division of Paramount Pictures owned by Viacom
To be honest, I think this animation studio is better than Disney Animation Studios. Also this studio puts a lot of effort in their animation. Also the storylines and plots are actually original unlike some other animation studios.
Sponge Out Of Water was great
This studio is awesome
Its one of the most watched channels this year and last year than nick.
Should be in Top 5!
The have make masterpieces like The Iron Giant, Batman The Mask of the Phantom, Osmosis Jones, Cats don't Dance and Quest for Camelot. Its kinda sad that almost everyone have forgotten this awesome movies that easily compete with another films of Disney or Fox in terms of quality and originality.
They made the Lego movie, what else not to like?
This is the studio I grew up with
The Iron Giant, The Polar Express, Storks, The Lego Movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Batman Mask Of The Phantasm, Happy Feet, Happy Feet 2, TMNT
Flippy from HTF, is the #1 mascot for Universal Studios better than Minions, Sing, Woody Woodpecker, The Land Before Time, Secret Life of Pets, Despicable Me, Curious George and Balto.
Universal Animation Studios owned #1 Adult Cartoon Happy Tree Friends (#HappyTreeFriends) is Larger than Kids classics as Minions, Woody Woodpecker, Curious George, The Land Before Time, Despicable Me, Balto, Sing, The Secret Life of Pets, Shrek, Madagascar, Hop, Trolls, The Croods, Boss Baby, Captain Underpants, We're Back!, Lorax, etc.
I like Universal everything, it should of at least made it in the top ten. This is ridiculous!
They did classics like Land Before Time, American Tail, and Balto
They are in a next level of traditional animation, handmade. The best animated series (One-Punch Man, Death Note, Claymore) and movies (all Satoshi Kon directed movies) are made by these guys.
Beatiful Animation. Just think of Hunter x Hunter, Death Note oder at least One Punch Man!
Parasyte -the maxim-, No Game No Life, Death Note, what else can I say?
This needs to be in the top 10
Butthead and Beavis were from here
Laika has some of the most original and beautiful films I've ever seen, and I don't feel like they receive enough credit for that. They have kept stop motion a wonderful form of animated art, even though no one else attempts to do it anymore. The people at Laika continue to top themselves every time, with Kubo being one of the best films of 2016. Coraline has always been one of my favorite films of ALL TIME, and when you see how much effort they put into their movies, you realize what an amazing and unique animation studio they are.
Laika is one of the only studios on this list if not the only to get over 75% on rotten tomatoes for five movies in a row. It's a shame their movies are flopping financially. But I have to give credit to the fact that they actually seem to care more about making quality stuff than making movies. They refuse to make much merchandise, they refuse to try out cgi (which tends to make more financially successful movies) and they refuse to lower their budgets on their movies. Impressive!
This is what animated movies should be. CGI films are usually just entertainment vehicles, but stop motion films actually try to be artistic in a way, and Laika is no exception.
This movie has every right to be in the Top 10. Sure it may not be the best animation studio, but this studio has been able to make perfection time and time again and they are the best of the best without question.
Looney Tunes is made by Warner Brothers.
, great films!, my brother loves you guys!
Sony should be WAY higher than Illumination. Both areon average bad companies, but Sony not only has more movies in general, but more GOOD movies overall. Only the Despicable Me trilogy and Lorax were good movies from Illumination, whereas in Sony, I can name at least seven decent movies
They've had an equal share of good and bad films. They're okay, but still could improve. The Emoji Movie was a disastrously bad movie.
Their only good films are the Hotel Transylvania films.
I think I know what AniMat will say about Sony Pictures Animation...
The home of Precure, my favorite franchise <3
Those movies aren't very good. I can't believe Disney Fairies even exists.
The makers of Planes and the tinker Bell Movies with endless sequels.
Planes is their only movie that is arguably good at all.
Their works on the Fate series and The Garden of Sinners film series are some of their best projects yet. God Eater is pretty decent as well and I expect great things from Ufotable when the new Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel movie trilogy comes out in 2017.
Beautiful, vibrant animation, plus they made Fate/Zero which is quite possibly the best anime of all time!
Realistic and detailed Animation
Just go see the fate series
Best fights ever. Period.
An open animation company making quality animations serves a better quality to world
