Top 10 Best Marvel Comics Characters

Marvel Comics is the most successful American comic book publisher, having created well-known superheroes like the Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. It is the property of The Walt Disney Company, and its iconic characters have entertained us on the page, on the big screen, and beyond.

With so many incredible characters to choose from, narrowing it down to the absolute best is tough. We're talking about heroes with complex backstories, fantastic powers, and personalities that jump off the page. Some have battled villains for decades. Others are new but have already made a huge impact on the Marvel universe.

The Top Ten
  1. Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, set within its shared universe. The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko and first appeared in the anthology comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962) during the... read more

There always are Batman and Spider-Man who come down to the greatest superheroes of all time. I definitely do love Batman, but not only can he not be the greatest superhero while he has no superpowers, but Spider-Man is ten thousand times better than Batman will ever be.

He is the most relatable, heartfelt, and amazing character anyone could ever think of creating. Everyone knows him. His comics do amazingly well, and even though most of the Spider-Man movies don't do the greatest job of displaying and embracing who Peter Parker/Spidey is, they still are (most of them) great movies and some of the best comic book movies I've ever seen.

Spider-Man is in the number one spot on this list, and for many reasons we can keep going on and on, he is here to stay.

  2. Wolverine

Wolverine is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, commonly associated with the X-Men. His powers and abilities include an accelerated healing factor, enhanced senses, and his signature adamantium claws and skeleton.... read more

A remarkable and interesting character with the most badass powers that enable him to showcase fierce and exciting fighting techniques on the screen.

The story of Wolverine and basically everything about him makes him the most intense, grittiest, and fascinating character in the Marvel universe. The Wolverine 2013 is also one of the best movies. Amazing!

Wolverine is an amazing character! His claws make him one of the most violent heroes ever to exist. A rule to me is blood makes a character, Wolverine, awesome!

Wolverine is like the best of the best X-Men characters. Wolverine is amazing because of his claws and the power to grab and kill right away.

  3. Iron Man

Iron Man is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer and editor Stan Lee, developed by scripter Larry Lieber, and designed by artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. Iron Man first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 in 1963.... read more

Different times have seen different characters' popularity rise and fall. In 2013, there was no bigger superhero than Tony Stark. RDJ in the three Iron Man films plus the Avengers made Iron Man bigger than Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Wolverine, and all the others.

Iron Man is the coolest guy ever. He has 42 different powerful armors, and he can even control them all at the same time. He is the one who saved the entire city and the Avengers in the movie The Avengers.

This should totally be number one. Tony Stark is the best Marvel character ever. He may be a bit arrogant, and there is the whole playboy thing, but he defeats bad guys thanks to his genius.

  4. Hulk

Robert Bruce Banner, also known as The Hulk or Bruce Banner, is a fictional superhero in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was co-created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. In live-action films, he was portrayed by Eric Bana, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he's... read more

Dude, Hulk has infinite strength and is known for these deeds: holding up a mountain, killing the Red King, taking down almost all the Marvel characters, and (my personal favorite) cracking Onslaught's indestructible armor. All the Avengers couldn't do it, but then they just let out Hulk.

Watch any movie or read any comic, it takes multiple heroes/characters to bring down the Hulk or to calm him down. He destroys anything or anyone in his path.

The only time I believe he was in trouble was against Cosmic Spider-Man, but please... that's pretty weak. Hulk is clearly the number 1.

  5. Deadpool

Deadpool is a fictional antihero created by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in New Mutants #98, published in February 1991, and was created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. His powers include accelerated healing and enhanced physical abilities. He is widely recognized for his humor and frequent breaking... read more

    Deadpool is:

    A) Funny as hell. He is crazy and doesn't fear death (especially as he is immortal and in love with Death itself) or anyone. Would mock The One Above All if he ever met him.

    B) Immortal (Thanos' curse)

    C) Death's (the cosmic entity) love (which made Thanos jealous)

    D) A regeneration monster

    E) One of the better-trained and most valued mercenaries in Marvel

    F) Crosses the 4th wall and speaks to the reader or the writer. He has even managed to threaten the writers to help him (that's like threatening TOAA). Funny.

    G) Deadpool. Is. Deadpool. Enough arguments. Chimichangas.

How can any other hero be even 1% as cool as this guy?

Deadpool sounds really hilarious, awesome, and insane, yet still totally cool. He should at least be higher than number 5. I can't wait until the movie comes out later this week.

  6. Captain America

Captain Steven Grant Rogers, better known as Steve Rogers or Captain America, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a World War II veteran and is often described as the first superhero within the Marvel Universe. The character was created by Joe... read more

Cap has a pure heart, and his movies are amazing. Every time you see him, you learn a valuable life lesson.

We aren't looking for the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. We are looking for the true hero who displays what being a superhero and a leader is just as well as Superman, and does the best job of displaying what being a true soldier is like.

Come on, guys. He deserves to be at least in the #3 spot.

Though Spider-Man's great, Cap is the hero that makes others look like students. He practically is the face of Marvel, underdog to hero. Everyone's favorite story, he's above all the modest and true hero. Not wanting to do it for someone, not revenge, plain and simple.

Humbleness is the ruler of great qualities, and he takes the gold, silver, and bronze for that. So great that it goes around.

  7. Venom

Venom, or the Venom Symbiote, is an alias used by several fictional characters in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with Spider-Man. The symbiote is a sentient alien organism that bonds with human hosts, the most famous being Eddie Brock. Venom has appeared... read more

Venom is off the chain. I especially like Flash Thompson as Venom.

Venom is so cool. He is one of the most iconic villains ever.

    Just my favorite Marvel character.

  8. Ghost Rider

One of the coolest and strongest characters in Marvel! Thor, Hulk, and Doctor Strange are nothing compared to the power of the Rider.

Ghost Rider can beat anyone in a fight with his fire.

  9. Thor

Thor Odinson is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character, based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name, is the Asgardian god of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which grants him the ability of flight and weather manipulation... read more

Undeniably one of the greatest Marvel characters ever. The Avengers would be barely anything without at least some version of Thor, whether Jane Foster or Odinson.

The concept of not being able to lift his hammer, Mjolnir, unless you're worthy, is one of the best twists for a superhero and allows character development for others besides Thor him/herself.

This hero deserves a spot in the top 5. Come on, my people. You're seriously going to let DEADPOOL take a higher position than THOR?!

We are talking about strength, and Spider-Man does not deserve any of that. Thor is definitely the one, unless One Above All just destroys him from all his comics. Thor wields one of the strongest weapons in the universe, a hammer called Mjolnir.

  10. Daredevil

Daredevil is a fictional superhero featured in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, with additional creative input from Jack Kirby.

The character made his first live-action appearance in the 1989 television movie The... read more

The Netflix series is amazing. His origin is. I mean, you're talking about the hero who teamed up with Spidey many times, took part in Civil War, Avengers vs. X-Men, and a bunch more epic Marvel events, and even fought the Punisher!

With radar sense, Batman-like fighting styles, and legendary foes such as the Kingpin, this is definitely one of my favorite superheroes and deserves a spot on the top ten list, without question!

This is unbelievable. How does Daredevil not even appear in the top tens? Let's go, guys! This guy is legendary! There is no way that Venom should get the 8th spot and Daredevil is only in the Honorable Mentions.

    Colossus

Colossus is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is commonly associated with the X-Men. Colossus, whose real name is Piotr Peter Nikolayevich Rasputin, has the ability to transform his body into organic steel.

The Green Goblin is the alias of several fictional supervillains from American comic books published by Marvel Comics. These characters are best known for being adversaries of Spider-Man. The original Green Goblin first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #14.... read more

Best villain in history, surpassing Darth Vader easily in my opinion. If there is a Spider-Man movie in the DVD shops, cinemas, or a video game dedicated to Spider-Man, it is all out there thanks to good old Norman Osborn.

I have read almost 500 old Amazing Spider-Man comics and about at least 600 characters in the Marvel universe, but none was as impressive as Green Goblin and his genius.

  16. Dr. Doom

Doctor Doom is a supervillain appearing in Marvel Comics. He first appeared in The Fantastic Four #5, which was published in July 1962. Doctor Doom is the ruler of the fictional country Latveria and is known as one of the most iconic adversaries of the Fantastic Four.

Possibly the best fictional character ever created. Every true Marvel fan knows about DOOM.

Best villain of all time. I have all the comic books that include him.

  17. Silver Surfer

The Silver Surfer is a fictional superhero featured in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Born Norrin Radd, he gained his powers from Galactus and became the Silver Surfer through the Power Cosmic.

  19. Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler is a member of the X-Men. His main power is teleportation. He appears in many video games, movies, and TV shows featuring the X-Men, and is known for his blue skin, agility, and devout Catholic faith.

The charming BAMFing devil. He's as good-natured and well-mannered as he is deadly. The guy actually teleported from a mission briefing and gave Kitty a Nightcrawler soft toy to play with as she was too young to go with the X-Men to fight. How can you not put someone like that in the top 10?

  20. Magneto

Magneto is a fictional character in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is most often associated with the X‑Men franchise. Magneto is a powerful mutant with the ability to generate and manipulate magnetic fields.

The best. Either him, Mystique, Professor X, Storm, Captain America, or Bucky.

  21. Loki

Loki Laufeyson, also known as Loki Odinson, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is the adoptive brother and archenemy of Thor and is known as the "God of Mischief." In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character is portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.

Loki is awesome in every way possible in the films. I mean, he's played by a great actor, has amazing lines, and can do anything, really.

Okay, so Loki is cool, but I don't get why people like Thor so much when Loki is so much better.

Loki can't be below any villain on this list. He just can't!

  22. Carnage

Carnage (Cletus Kasady) is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, usually as an enemy of Spider-Man. Garth Ennis's run is one of the best runs I have ever read. Mother Russia is probably the best storyline in that run, but it's hard to choose among so many good arcs (Barracuda, Long Cold Dark, In the Beginning, etc.).

Frank Castle is the most underrated character in Marvel. He is smart, good with a gun, can tolerate an enormous amount of pain, and has the most honor out of anyone in comics. Semper Fi!

  25. Black Widow

Natalia Alianovna Romanova, more commonly known as Natasha Romanoff or the Black Widow, is a fictional superhero featured in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
