Best Video Game Mascots

The Top Ten
1 Mario Mario, originally named Jumpman, is the main character of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, created by the creative director and video game designer at Nintendo of Japan, Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario has appeared in almost every Mario game, including games in spin-off series as a playable character, with... read more

Screw Sonic, screw Mega Man, screw everybody! None of them compare to Mario! Sonic goes really fast, but Mario is the best mascot, with the best games, the best character, and the best everything! He saves a universe twice, while Sonic saves the world.

#Marioisthebest

Honestly, Mario and Sonic are my favorite game mascots, but considering the fact Sonic copied off Mario, Mario is my #1, and Sonic is #2, but still cool.

I love Mario and Sonic! But still, Mario for the win.

I love Mario, and thank you, Nintendo. Mario rules. And I figured out why you all treat Mario like a hypocrite - it's because you're Sonic fanboys (I don't hate Sonic, by the way).

2 Sonic Sonic the Hedgehog, trademarked Sonic The Hedgehog, is the title character and protagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series released by SEGA, as well as numerous spin-off comics, five animated shows, and an animated OVA.

No game took risks, especially when first created, and exploded into success and popularity like Sonic did. He has spawned a fandom worlds greater than any video game character in history and goes viral with ease.

To have a character with such dimension, lore, and history, and still be at the top after all these years - especially in the face of other longtime video game mascots with virtually no real character development or depth (much less voices) - is a feat, to say the least. I say well-deserved. It's phenomenal to do what Sonic's character has done and have it work so well.

Opinion on games aside, I think it's fair to say that he's the greatest video game mascot. We're talking about characters here, people, not games or companies.

3 Crash Crash Bandicoot is a video game franchise of platform video games. The series, originally exclusive to the Sony PlayStation, was created by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin during their tenure at Naughty Dog for Sony Computer Entertainment.

Crash is not only one of the best mascots ever but is my favorite video game character. Also, I don't care who's developing the next game - I just want a new Crash game.

And stop hating the mutant series just because it was different.

Crash was the original mascot for PlayStation. Sony needs to bring him back.

I grew up with Crash when I got my PS1, and he still is the best video game mascot of all time.

4 Spyro Spyro is a series of platform games which primarily features the protagonist Spyro the Dragon and his friend, Sparx the Dragonfly.

Spyro made the landscape more vivid with its platform skills ahead of its time. Even better than Mario 64. Crash is also cool too. He's just plain fun, Sonic-style!

Oh God, thank you to those who voted for Spyro! Definitely the PlayStation mascot!

Hmm, the PlayStation seems to be missing something... There seems to be no purple dragon, bandicoot, or famous duo in the PS4 lineup.

5 Link Link refers to several different incarnations of the same protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series.

Link should be third, if not second. Crash and Spyro can't compete with the Hero of Time. Which of these three managed to do the best financially, in terms of legendary battles, and all-out surviving enough to have games continue in their given franchise?

I mean, Sony is great, don't get me wrong, but if they wanted to make more games for these guys, they would've by now.

What's he doing at #10? He should be #3, not Spyro the Dragon, whose relevance has diminished since Skylanders.

He has the best game ever, in my opinion. Come on! He deserves to be first, and when he is first, please tell me.

6 Ratchet & Clank
7 Jak and Daxter
8 Mimigas (Cave Story) Mimiga is a species of rabbit-like creatures featured in the video game "Cave Story." They inhabit the game's underground world and play a central role in its storyline. Mimigas are known for their innocence and vulnerability, often targeted by the game's antagonist. The player's interactions with Mimiga... read more
9 Mega Man Mega Man, known as Rockman in Japan, is the title character and the protagonist of the Mega Man series by Capcom.
10 Banjo-Kazooie
The Contenders
11 Pac Man Pac-Man is the protagonist fictional character of the franchise of the same name by Namco, who was first introduced in the Japanese arcade game Pac-Man on May 22, 1980 in Japan, later released in the United States in October the same year.

Pac-Man, literally the Mario before Mario, without the personality. Those of you who lived in the arcade era would know crowds of people waiting in line to compete for the top score at a Pac-Man arcade machine.

Sure, his TV show may have ruined the Pac-Man we all know and love, but didn't Sonic and Mario do the same?

13 Luigi Luigi, originally a palette swap of Mario named Green Mario, is a major character featured in video games and related media released by Nintendo. Created by prominent game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Luigi is portrayed as the slightly younger, taller fraternal twin brother of Nintendo's unofficial mascot... read more

Where would player one be without his player two? Luigi may not be as recognizable in the games as Mario, but a large majority of Mario fans prefer Luigi over Mario.

Luigi may have started out as just a palette swap, but in the end, he became a man of his own. He learned from a dinosaur how to stay in the air a little longer (scuttle jump). He is a coward, though it just adds to his general badassery.

At least put him around number 5.

Mario is fat, short, slow, and evil. Luigi is none of those. He is fast, agile, and can leap over everyone's head. He is awesome in every game he is in, which is pretty much every Mario game for 30 years.

14 Sly Cooper Sly Cooper is the title character of the Sly Cooper video game series, developed by Sucker Punch Productions and Sanzaru Games for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita consoles.

What game mascot beats Sly Cooper?! Sucker Punch's games are all amazingly fun and addictive! The games are all fun and one of the best PS3 game franchises ever made (franchises that started on PS)!

15 Donkey Kong Donkey Kong is an arcade game released by Nintendo in 1981. It is an early example of the platform game genre, as the gameplay focuses on maneuvering the main character across a series of platforms while dodging and jumping over obstacles.

In my heart, he is a great mascot, but he is only number 10 because his games were not as great as people say. A lot of people may disagree, but sorry, this is my opinion. I am entitled to it.

16 Shovel Knight
17 Pikachu Pikachu (Japanese: ピカチュウ) are a species of Pokémon, fictional creatures that appear in an assortment of video games, animated television shows and movies, trading card games, and comic books licensed by The Pokémon Company, a Japanese corporation. A mascot of the Pokemon franchise, it's... read more

Why isn't Pikachu up here until now?! Come on, most people don't even know who 2-9 are, and I know a lot of people that don't know Sonic that well.

Yeah, Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man I get, but the others have never been seen! Everyone knows Pikachu!

18 Gex Gex is the main character of the "Gex" video game series. He is a wisecracking gecko with a passion for television and pop culture references. Gex's adventures take him through various worlds inspired by different genres of TV shows. His humor and love for media make him a unique and entertaining protagonist... read more
19 Wario Wario is a character in Nintendo's Mario series who was originally designed as an antagonist to Mario. His motives are driven by greed and he will take the side of whoever will give him the most pay. Although he may seem like just a mean man with no heart, he does have a very tragic past.
20 Lara Croft Lara Croft is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Square Enix video game franchise Tomb Raider.
21 Rayman
22 Creeper (Minecraft)
23 Vault Boy
24 Mr. Game & Watch Mr. Game & Watch is a 2D generic stick figure-styled silhouette character, created by Nintendo and an amalgamation of the Game & Watch handheld consoles.
