Mario
Mario, originally named Jumpman, is the main character of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, created by Nintendo of Japan's game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario appears in nearly every game in the series, including many spin-off titles, with few exceptions such as New Super Luigi U, the Luigi's Mansion... read more Screw Sonic, screw Mega Man, screw everybody! None of them compare to Mario! Sonic goes really fast, but Mario is the best mascot, with the best games, the best character, and the best everything! He saves a universe twice, while Sonic saves the world.
#Marioisthebest
Honestly, Mario and Sonic are my favorite game mascots, but considering the fact Sonic copied off Mario, Mario is my #1, and Sonic is #2, but still cool.
I love Mario and Sonic! But still, Mario for the win.
I love Mario, and thank you, Nintendo. Mario rules. And I figured out why you all treat Mario like a hypocrite - it's because you're Sonic fanboys (I don't hate Sonic, by the way).
Sonic
Sonic the Hedgehog, trademarked as Sonic the Hedgehog, is the title character and protagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series released by SEGA.
He has since appeared in numerous spin-off comics, seven television shows, an animated OVA, and a live-action movie trilogy. No game took risks, especially when first created, and exploded into success and popularity like Sonic did. He has spawned a fandom worlds greater than any video game character in history and goes viral with ease.
To have a character with such dimension, lore, and history, and still be at the top after all these years - especially in the face of other longtime video game mascots with virtually no real character development or depth (much less voices) - is a feat, to say the least. I say well-deserved. It's phenomenal to do what Sonic's character has done and have it work so well.
Opinion on games aside, I think it's fair to say that he's the greatest video game mascot. We're talking about characters here, people, not games or companies.
Crash

The series was developed by Naughty Dog for Sony Computer Entertainment and debuted as a PlayStation exclusive in 1996... read more Crash is not only one of the best mascots ever but is my favorite video game character. Also, I don't care who's developing the next game - I just want a new Crash game.
And stop hating the mutant series just because it was different.
Crash was the original mascot for PlayStation. Sony needs to bring him back.
I grew up with Crash when I got my PS1, and he still is the best video game mascot of all time.
Spyro
Spyro is a series of platform video games that primarily features Spyro the Dragon and his companion Sparx the Dragonfly. The series debuted in 1998 on the PlayStation console. It has since expanded to include remakes and sequels across multiple gaming platforms. Spyro made the landscape more vivid with its platform skills ahead of its time. Even better than Mario 64. Crash is also cool too. He's just plain fun, Sonic-style!
Oh God, thank you to those who voted for Spyro! Definitely the PlayStation mascot!
Hmm, the PlayStation seems to be missing something... There seems to be no purple dragon, bandicoot, or famous duo in the PS4 lineup.
Link
Link refers to several different incarnations of the same protagonist in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. Each incarnation of Link is typically chosen by the gods to protect the land of Hyrule from evil forces, often wielding the Master Sword and bearing the Triforce of Courage. His main goal... read more Link should be third, if not second. Crash and Spyro can't compete with the Hero of Time. Which of these three managed to do the best financially, in terms of legendary battles, and all-out surviving enough to have games continue in their given franchise?
I mean, Sony is great, don't get me wrong, but if they wanted to make more games for these guys, they would've by now.
What's he doing at #10? He should be #3, not Spyro the Dragon, whose relevance has diminished since Skylanders.
He has the best game ever, in my opinion. Come on! He deserves to be first, and when he is first, please tell me.

Those of you who lived in the arcade era would know crowds of people waiting in line to compete for the top score at a Pac-Man arcade machine.
Sure, his TV show may have ruined the Pac-Man we all know and love, but didn't Sonic and Mario do the same?

Luigi may not be as recognizable in the games as Mario, but a large majority of Mario fans prefer Luigi over Mario.
Luigi may have started out as just a palette swap, but in the end, he became a man of his own. He learned from a dinosaur how to stay in the air a little longer (scuttle jump). He is a coward, though it just adds to his general badassery.
At least put him around number 5.
Mario is fat, short, slow, and evil. Luigi is none of those. He is fast, agile, and can leap over everyone's head. He is awesome in every game he is in, which is pretty much every Mario game for 30 years.
