Top 10 Best Video Games of 2001

In 2001, you could explore massive 3D worlds, battle your friends in chaotic multiplayer matches, and experience cinematic adventures that pushed gaming hardware to its limits. The PlayStation 2 was hitting its stride, Nintendo introduced the GameCube, and Microsoft entered the console wars with the original Xbox. With developers experimenting with new gameplay mechanics, improved graphics, and more ambitious storytelling, you had plenty of reasons to keep your controller within reach.

The Top Ten

  1. Grand Theft Auto III

    This game was the best.

    One word: EPIC.

  2. Super Smash Bros. Melee

Compared to 2000, 2001 didn't offer me much personally. Emphasis on me, since I didn't play a lot of the games that came out this year. That being said, I have played Smash Melee, and it is very good. I mean, it's Smash! How can you go wrong with it?

    Needs to be number 1.

    Amazing gameplay.

  3. Halo: Combat Evolved

This game revolutionized twin-stick first-person shooters and still holds up well today. The game includes lots of go-to features present in most FPSs, including a limited weapon count, regenerating shields, and an equally strong focus on good single-player and multiplayer experiences. Had it been released a little later, it would have certainly been an important pioneer in online gaming with Xbox Live.

  4. Luigi's Mansion

Nintendo tried something slightly different with this one, and it worked. Great game that is almost impossible to switch off.

  5. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

-Colonel, we've managed to avoid drowning!

    -GOOD job, Raiden!

    LOL
