Top 10 Hardest Missions in Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

The Jak and Daxter franchise's original main installment is often considered the easiest game in the entire series. As a result, making a list like this is ironically difficult, given how little challenge the game itself generally presents.

So please don't blame me for having a differing opinion on the difficulty of certain levels. I am trying my best to narrow down the 10 hardest missions from what is widely regarded as the easiest game in the series, for the sake of submitting this community list to the public.

A list of missions can be found in the Jak and Daxter Wiki article titled "The Precursor Legacy missions."

The Top Ten
  1. Defeat Gol and Maia - Gol and Maia's citadel

This is it. Your final mission after completing all the others, and the only one that is free of a Power Cell. Because of that, it is also the only mission with no official name, so I gave it one.

This boss fight consists of several phases where your only hope, for all but one of them, is Yellow Eco to deal damage to the bosses. Afterward, you have to escape before everything blows up using the power of Blue Eco. It is heavy on platforming, dodging, enemy combat, and frantic escapes. Naughty Dog really gave it everything for the final taste of this game's gameplay once completion hits 100 percent. It fully earns the idea of a "hard" mission and definitely deserves the top spot, with or without a Power Cell as the reward.

  2. Defeat Klaww - Mountain Pass

Definitely the hardest parts of the entire video game are the bosses, specifically the last two of them. That is perfectly fitting, since they are the bosses of the easiest game in the entire Jak and Daxter franchise, and boss fights get harder and harder with each encounter.

In this mission, you have to jump between platforms to avoid oncoming boulders targeting you. Later on, you can knock Klaww with his own large boulder using Yellow Eco power, and then run away from it. This single phase of the boss fight gets harder with every success you make throughout the mission, which makes it one of the closest missions to truly becoming hard.

  3. Explore the dark cave - Spider Cave

This mission sends you into a dark cave completely devoid of light. Your only way to see is by hitting crystals that temporarily brighten the surrounding area.

The light does not last long, which is why this mission earns its place on the list. You have to move quickly before the light fades so you can reach the Power Cell waiting at the end.

  4. Navigate the spider tunnel - Spider Cave

Similar to the "Survive the lurker-infested cave" mission, this one has you enter a tunnel filled with resting spiders after activating the Yellow Eco Vent Switch in Snowy Mountain.

You enter the tunnel to obtain a Power Cell, but there are plenty of spiders attacking you along the way. With the Yellow Eco vent being the first thing you encounter, you can get fully charged and prepare to shoot countless spiders as you push forward. Even then, you will very likely take damage in the process, so a bit of luck is definitely needed.

  5. Protect Farthy's snacks - Boggy Swamp

Aside from the last two bosses, the minigames are the hardest part of the video game, especially this one. You have to protect the snacks, which appear to be cupcakes, belonging to Boggy Billy's pet Farthy by using only your goggles.

If even one rat Lurker reaches the snacks, the mission fails. Each round of the invasion gets harder, and the enemies are scattered all over the area, so you need to be fast if you want to earn that Power Cell from Boggy.

  6. Launch to the poles - Spider Cave

This mission involves jumping from one pole to another in sequence. Failing to press the jump button at the right moment while swinging can easily happen.

Because of that, good timing is essential if you want to clear this challenge.

  7. Free seven scout flies - Snowy Mountain

Out of all the Scout Fly missions in the game, this one easily takes the cake as the hardest. The snow covers many of the objects where the Scout Flies are hidden, making them much harder to spot.

Because of that, searching for all seven can be frustrating, so good luck with this one.

  8. Survive the lurker-infested cave - Snowy Mountain

The small lurkers are some of the most challenging enemies to deal with, especially when many of them swarm you at once. They can easily overwhelm you and add difficulty to their missions like no other enemies before them.

This level is entirely focused on fighting them. Even using Red Eco will not reliably prevent you from taking damage, so your main objective becomes beating them down and running to the end as fast as possible.

  9. Get through the lurker fort - Snowy Mountain

This mission is platforming and enemy combat at its best. You unlock it after completing another mission involving opening the fort.

You make your way along the edge of the fort with slippery floors and enemies throughout. There is a checkpoint on a wooden pillar that you can activate by stomping on its button, which helps reduce the mission's difficulty. There are also a few possible ways to shorten the mission as well.

  10. Find the hidden power cell - Volcanic Crater

This is a simple, short mission that can still take several tries to complete. There is a strong box stuck in the rocks right behind you when facing the entrance to Spider Cave.

The area is full of Yellow Eco vents, so you need to go there and fully charge up. However, those vents are in higher places away from the entrance you used. You need to rush back to the strong box before your Yellow Eco runs out so you can shoot it with enough power to make it drop the Power Cell.
