Zinogre
This fanged wyvern charges itself with lightning using endemic thunderbugs, entering a supercharged state that enhances its attacks. It is recognized for its agile combat style and electric-based strikes.
He is one of the easier monsters in the games compared to, say, Elder Dragons, but he can still give a good fight even if you have great gear. I personally feel that the fight is the most fun out of all the monsters. It also is always on the ground, giving you a good chance to attack it. This is one of the few problems I have with Rathalos and Rathian.
I have always loved this monster - its design, its fight, its armor and weapons, and its music. I love the little touches, like him cracking his neck before a fight or the rare Super Saiyan 2 mode. He is a blast to fight and is most certainly my favorite monster, with Mizutsune as a close second.
-
Lagiacrus
A leviathan-type monster adapted for aquatic and terrestrial combat, Lagiacrus discharges electricity from its body to stun prey. It is commonly found in watery environments such as flooded forests and underwater caves.
When you're faced with a monster that even Deviljho would rather avoid confrontation with, you know you're in for something big. The king of the seas lives up to the name, both in and out of the water. A grand design that appears imposing on land and powerfully graceful underwater, paired with unmatched thunder abilities, Lagiacrus is without a doubt my favorite monster in the series.
I love him. His armor and design are cool and the fight is easy yet challenging at the same time.
Lightning crocodile monster type thing, I guess, but it is very cool.
-
Shagaru Magala
This elder dragon is the mature form of Gore Magala and spreads the Frenzy Virus in a more potent form. Its radiant golden appearance contrasts with its devastating area-of-effect attacks.
Shagaru Magala was a big obstacle but also a significant milestone in my Monster Hunter experience. As the first Elder Dragon I ever fought, this golden dragon was the most defining of all monsters I ever hunted, even when it took less time than fighting Gore Magala.
The transformation you see, the tone of the battle, its unique threat to the MH universe with the frenzy virus, and its enjoyable battle even after the fifth time in a row set it apart from creatures like Zinogre, Nerscylla, and newcomers like Nergigante and Zorah.
Also, in my personal opinion, if I could have any creature from Monster Hunter as a pet, I would choose Shagaru Magala every time. Both in design and personal experience, no creature from the series can knock this golden god out of my favorite spot.
-
Dalamadur
A massive Elder Dragon with rock-like scales, Dalamadur coils around mountains and attacks with powerful body slams and laser-like beams. It resides at the Speartip Crag within Heaven's Mount. Holding the title of the largest monster in the main series, this colossal beast spans nearly a quarter of a mile in length.
I adore serpent-like monsters, especially big ones. For a monster that in legend 'drew the horizon with its body,' Dalamadur most certainly looks the part. One of, if not the largest monster species in the series, he's one to take many an inexperienced hunter by surprise.
His presence is menacing, and his beam attack has to be one of the most 'oh my god' moments in Monster Hunter.
One of my favorites. Being one, if not the largest, Monster Hunter monster, it's a giant mountain snake! What more could you ask for?
-
Tigrex
A highly aggressive flying wyvern with immense physical strength, Tigrex uses its powerful limbs and jaws to charge and bite. Its roars are so intense they can temporarily stagger nearby opponents.
Tigrex is powerful, a fast and strong attacker. The fact that its roar can knock you down and do damage is impressive. #Tigrex4Life
I can't really explain this one that well, I just really love how chaotic his fight is.
My personal favorite as it has the best everything. My favorite part is the roar.
-
Seregios
A flying wyvern covered in bladed scales, Seregios can launch its scales as projectiles and cause Bleeding status. It exhibits erratic flight patterns and relies on quick, aggressive strikes.
One of my favorite monsters in the series. It has a fun fight and stays on the ground a reasonable amount of time. It also has a great fight theme, creating a great atmosphere. Another thing I like is the weapons and armor and their gimmick.
My favorite monster. Everything from the weapons, to the design, the music, the armor, everything about Seregios is awesome!
This demon is a beast and his weapons have the roll-to-sharpen feature. His design and fight are really cool.
-
Xeno'jiiva
A newborn elder dragon with bioluminescent features, Xeno'jiiva absorbs energy from its surroundings to fuel its attacks. It fires powerful beam attacks and causes explosive shockwaves in combat.
A very difficult fight the first time, but as you get more accustomed to it and when you see the armor, you will find yourself looking for an SOS flare.
Literally has the best design and his fight is really cool for being the final boss of World.
Really good design, great late/endgame monster.
-
Valstrax
Known as the Sky Comet Dragon, this Elder Dragon uses its jet-propelled wings to perform high-speed aerial maneuvers. It can inflict Dragonblight and performs dive attacks from extreme altitudes. Valstrax releases dragon energy from its wings to fly at supersonic speeds, allowing it to traverse different zones instantly.
A literal rocket-powered Elder Dragon, what else could you possibly want? Shoots up in the sky like a comet, comes crashing down on any unsuspecting hunter, can flip his wings into different stances... and its orchestral theme is one of the very best the series has ever experienced. We need this back in World!
I fully applaud whoever at Capcom decided that a rocket-powered monster would be a good idea, and by all means, it was! Not only is his biology fascinating, but his concept is unique and exciting. He's fast. He looks fast. He fights fast. He lives fast. A design like this isn't hard to pick out from a crowd.
-
Agnaktor
A lava-adapted leviathan with a hardened outer shell, Agnaktor can tunnel through molten rock and uses heat-based attacks. Its body becomes more flexible after heating, allowing greater mobility.
Also known as fire-pike wyverns, Agnaktor uses their tough beaks and great strength to burrow through rock. However, their hardened-lava armor becomes soft when they burrow underground or are attacked with fire or explosives.
I'll be honest, I have a massive leviathan bias. Agnaktor clicks... or rather, CLACKS with me on a particularly high level. His design feels dangerous, it looks sharp. He's a monster perfectly designed for barreling through ground and magma alike. The clack clack clack gimmick is an iconic trait and one of the most easily recognizable sound effects in the series.
-
Barioth
This saber-toothed flying wyvern inhabits icy regions and uses wind and ice-based attacks. It relies on mobility and can perform rapid lunges and tail swipes to control space.
Wyverns that rule the eternally frozen tundra. Barioth use their huge tusks and spiked scales to move freely atop the slippery ice. This ability makes them very difficult to keep up with.
The saber-toothed tiger aesthetic is too good to deny.
Best design... a mix of a reptilian and a feline.
-
Brachydios
A brute wyvern known for its explosive slime-covered fists, Brachydios uses punches and headbutts to spread its volatile secretion. The slime detonates after a short delay, creating area-of-effect damage.
In a world of monsters that use fancy claws, jaws, and elemental madness, it's hard to simply pass by a monster who resorts to punching the everloving daylights out of its contenders. Obsidian hide makes it difficult to put down, surprising agility makes it hard to hit, and above all, he hits like a bus.
Raging Brachydios turns the heat up to eleven. Rightfully so, Brachydios stands as one of the strongest non-Elder Dragon monsters in the series.
It's truly a beast and looks amazing in every way. The perk given from its armor allows you to become stronger as the beasts you fight become stronger. All in all, its beauty, explosive and high-damage attacks, and coloration design make for what I think is the best of all "normal" monsters.
-
Rathalos
Often called the "King of the Skies," this flying wyvern uses fire-based attacks and can inflict poison with its claws. It is the male counterpart to Rathian and is commonly found in forested regions.
A kind and compassionate monster that spews out raging balls of fire to provide warmth to orphans and kittens so they don't die in the cold of winter.
King of the skies and the emblem of Monster Hunter. It has been in every Monster Hunter game since 2004.
It's the almighty king of the skies.
