Top 10 Strongest Undertale Characters

So you've played Undertale. Maybe you cried a little. Maybe you laughed a lot. Maybe you restarted five times because you couldn't live with yourself after what you did to Toriel. No judgment. But once you've made your way through the Ruins, braved the CORE, and stared death (and probably a bone joke) in the face, one question is bound to cross your mind: who's actually the strongest character in this game?

Not strongest as in best hug-giver or most emotionally devastating monologue. We're talking raw, game-breaking, soul-shattering strength. The kind that turns a fight into a bullet-hell ballet or flips the game's rules on their head. You've seen characters one-shot you without breaking a sweat. Others make you dodge attacks like you're training for the Olympics. And then there are those whose power isn't just in their stats, but in the way they manipulate timelines, emotions, or the fourth wall.

The Top Ten
  1. Sans

Sans, or Sans the Skeleton, is a character in the 2015 RPG Undertale, created by Toby Fox. He is a lazy, pun-loving skeleton who serves as a supporting protagonist in the "Pacifist" and "Neutral" routes of the game, and a heroic antagonist and final boss in the "Genocide" route. Sans is known for his... read more

Sans, in my opinion, is basically the hardest boss to encounter in the game. Before skipping this, I have something to say. Yes, sure, True Pacifist bosses are really strong (Omega Flowey and Asriel Dreemurr, for example), and Chara can basically kill you anytime they want, but in-game, Sans is the hardest in all means.

In Omega Flowey's fight, you have checkpoints with the help of the six souls. Asriel Dreemurr's fight basically blocks inevitable deaths, meaning you cannot die. Sans' fight doesn't do that. There are no checkpoints or no-death policies in his fight.

Although Sans is basically the weakest character in-game (less than Monster Kid), he uses Karmic Retribution (or whatever it's called) and basically poisons you throughout his fight, bringing a bit more stress to the player. Even in the menu, you're not safe from his attacks, with you still getting KR damage (I'm going off-topic here) which no other boss fight does.

Honestly, I'll keep this brief. Although Chara is the true #1, or the Protagonist, whichever one you prefer, Sans is the boss-fight that kills you (possibly) more than bosses such as Omega or Asriel in-game. Sure, I do agree other bosses have their amazing amounts of strength, such as Flowey almost killing you in one hit in the beginning before Toriel saves you or Chara at the end of a Genocide run if you decline their offer of the erasing of the world, but in technical terms, my vote goes to Sans.

  2. Asriel Dreemurr

Asriel Dreemurr is a character in the 2015 video game Undertale, created by Toby Fox.

He is the biological child of King Asgore Dreemurr and Queen Toriel, but he was believed to have died before the game's events. In the True Pacifist Route, where the player spares every character, Asriel's backstory... read more

Overall, Asriel Dreemurr is the most powerful character in all of Undertale.

Why you ask? Well, let's start off with the fact that Flowey had consumed six human souls to become a being of unimaginable power. Now let's add all the monsters in the underground's souls, and you have a being that has infinite attack and defense.

Asriel can use every monster in the underground against the player but not to their full extent. Sure, Sans has his Gaster Blasters and his powerful abilities, but the people only consider him to be a hard boss. Sans would be the hardest to fight because Asriel Dreemurr is impossible to destroy.

All in all, Asriel is the most powerful character in Undertale due to having six souls and all the monster souls.

  3. Chara

Chara is a character in the game Undertale by Toby Fox and is one of the seven humans to fall into the Underground before the protagonist. The name Chara is chosen by the player at the start, though it is later revealed that this name actually belongs to the first fallen human. During the Genocide Route... read more

Chara can erase the world. To add on, she is a demon in a body, making her twice as strong. This is because she says that she is the demon in the player's soul and she wants to get rid of the world (Earth and the underworld). So all in all, Chara is the strongest character in Undertale.

Frisk can defeat all monsters at LV 1 and easily defeat them in the genocide route. At LV 20, Frisk can easily kill Flowey. In fact, Flowey knows he's no match and is so afraid of you that he even knows his Omega/Photoshop form is no use.

Chara… they overpower Frisk's choice when they say "Do not (erase everything)." Frisk can't even bring everything back if they want and have to strike a deal with Chara to do so. Even with max LV, Chara obliterates Frisk with infinite damage and surpasses any defense Frisk has. It's a huge mistake bringing out this kid.

  4. Frisk

Frisk is the main protagonist in the 2015 RPG Undertale, created by Toby Fox. They are the eighth human to fall into the Underground and serve as the player's character throughout the game. Frisk's name is revealed near the end of the True Pacifist Route.

Frisk can be killed and often is killed, but Frisk never truly dies. They just come back and try again, over and over. Frisk can reset everything, so Sans stands no chance. Chara can only erase the world with Frisk's guidance, and Asriel does not seem to have full power over the timeline. If so, why wouldn't he just reset instantly? He has to kill Frisk over and over to make everyone forget Frisk before he can!

Before someone hates me, this is my opinion. All of the characters above Frisk have their own reasons which are completely valid. I am just showing my opinion.

    Thanks!

After Chara, Frisk is the strongest. They can respawn and just dodge all monster attacks. Only one they can't do a thing against is Chara. Chara can overpower their decision to erase the world and stands no chance against them. Frisk is unable to dodge infinite damage Chara does to them.

Frisk cannot undo Chara's erasing and has to strike a deal or forever stay in the void.

  5. Undyne

Undyne is a main character in Toby Fox's 2015 RPG Undertale. She is the fish-like, armor-clad captain of the Royal Guard, devoted to protecting the monsters of the Underground. Her name is a pun on the word "Undying" and a reference to the mythical water spirit, "Undine."... read more

Undyne is proven stronger than Sans because Sans is just learning his patterns and can only do one damage. Undyne has more health and is accurate. Sans can only dodge so well because you hit in the same place every time you attack him in Undertale.

Also, Frisk's being able to erase the world doesn't count. I only admit that Asriel is stronger because he can control time. Therefore, he is stronger.

Undyne the Undying is literally the hardest and the most unpredictable enemy (second only to Sans). Still, she is very hard in general. Also, she is the only monster to overcome determination (Alphys did say monster souls can't contain determination, but I guess Undyne's was too strong, even stronger than death).

  6. Asgore Dreemurr

We never saw his true power and he was most likely holding back while fighting Frisk. But, he did destroy the mercy button, which is very impressive. He also fought in the war between humans and monsters (probably).

Asgore took me days to finish. I couldn't finish him because I didn't even have butterscotch pie or a single healing item, so I quit. You fight him in every route except pacifist.

He can spew fire everywhere, and he can rapidly change the color of his trident to almost always hit you with it. This makes him very powerful.

  7. Toriel

Toriel is a goat-like monster who is a secondary major character in Toby Fox's 2015 RPG, Undertale. She saves the protagonist from Flowey and guides them through the Ruins, of which she is the self-proclaimed caretaker. She is the ex-wife of Asgore, the mother of Asriel Dreemurr, the adoptive mother... read more

Same as Papyrus, she's actually pretty powerful and would be a really hard boss battle if you could die, but you can't because she's just so caring.

Okay, I think this is fair because she doesn't actually kill you. She backs off on like her third attack.

If Toriel didn't stop attacking us, she would be a pretty hard boss.

  8. Mettaton

Mettaton is a character in the popular 2015 RPG game, Undertale. He is a robot with a soul built by Dr. Alphys and is the only television star in the Underground. Mettaton is a popular character within the fanbase, known for his flamboyant personality and dramatic flair. His notable features include... read more

Mettaton NEO is essentially on a quad shot espresso with so much cream he's on a sugar high. Even though you kill him in one move, he's got the third-strongest attack level in the game. Also, he has 30,000 HP. He is raging mad. There's also an argument to be made for Mettaton EX being just incredibly cracked.

He is stronger than Undyne because of three reasons. 1. He can dance on you and make you have to dodge tons of legs. 2. He has mini versions of himself to help protect him. 3. His standard form is indestructible, and his EX form has lots of tricks like bombs thrown at you, legs kicked at you, mini Mettatons thrown at you, and even his own power source.

I think Undyne is strong, but Mettaton is slightly stronger. I think she should go here, and Mettaton should go at number 8. Asgore would go to 7.

  9. Papyrus

Papyrus is a character from the 2015 game Undertale, created by Toby Fox. He is the younger brother of Sans the Skeleton, a Royal Guard in training, and a sentry in the town of Snowdin. Unlike his brother, Papyrus is energetic, loud, and somewhat full of himself, but in an endearing and earnest way.... read more

Papyrus has 680 HP. Also, he likely holds back and has a lot of control over his attacks and powers, as unlike other monsters he intentionally doesn't kill you and only captures you.

Papyrus is an awesome dude, and if I use the theory that Gaster was Papyrus' father, then Gaster must have taught him at least the basic attack moves that he used. Although Papyrus was using his easy attacks in the game, he's just too cinnamon rolly for the world and uses kindness to make sure Frisk/Chara doesn't get hurt.

Though they aren't truly canon, Disbelief and Revenge imply that Papyrus' true capabilities are stronger than we could ever imagine. He's just too kind to try to kill Frisk.

  10. Alphys

Alphys is a lab-coat-wearing, bespectacled, yellow-skinned lizard scientist who resides in her lab in Hotland in the critically acclaimed RPG Undertale. She watches large amounts of anime and is responsible for major plot developments, including the creation of the robot Mettaton. Alphys also harbors... read more

Alphys is just great. She always tries to impress the player in the pacifist route. She is very kind and weird in her own way.

She only attacks you once, and it's while she's a lost soul. It ends up being a little bit of Mettaton's attacks.

She has created Mettaton. Give her time for more powerful monsters. P.S. she made Undyne so powerful.
