Top 10 Best Nu-Metal Songs

The Top Ten
1 Chop Suey! - System of a Down

As much as I love Linkin Park, Slipknot, Korn, and RATM, System of a Down is the best nu-metal band! They are so good that people can't even call them nu-metal. They are one of the best bands of the 21st century! This is also the best song of the 21st century!

I'm a fan of Linkin Park. I'd always thought that my favorite song in nu-metal was one of LP's, like In the End, Numb, or One Step Closer. But when I first heard Chop Suey!, I fell in love with this song. My first thought was, "If I had heard Chop Suey! before some of LP's songs, I'd never have become a fan of LP."

2 In the End - Linkin Park

Best nu-metal song ever, if not the best song ever. The way LP shifts seamlessly between Chester and Mike over a backdrop of haunting keyboards and strong bass lines is just something no other band has ever achieved, or at least done well.

What the heck? This one is better than Twisted Transistor. This song has the best lyrics and the best combination of Mike's rapping and Chester's vocals.

This is an evergreen song. This song never feels like it's 19 years old. It's one of the greatest songs/nu-metal songs I've ever listened to.

3 Points of Authority - Linkin Park

I grew up listening to hip hop and reggae and was never really into rock or metal. A friend of mine let me listen to the Reanimation album, and I was like, Damn, this is some cool stuff. I became an instant fan of Linkin Park. Then I went back and heard the Hybrid Theory album and was blown away.

I find it so rare for me to actually like a majority, and in this case, all the songs on any album, let alone something out of my traditional genre of music. When I heard the original version of Points of Authority, I was simply blown away. The start of the song with the rap lyrics is cool, and then you feel the punch of the beat. It is instant bliss, no matter how many times I listen to it.

This album at least exposed a new genre of music to me. Although I am still very picky and have a limited number of songs on my playlist, I now have a better appreciation for this type of music. It also helps that hip hop music has turned to complete crap these days, pushing me to further explore other types of music. From everything I've heard, this song gets my vote, for whatever that is worth.

4 Duality - Slipknot

One of the best songs on the best album by the best metal band. This song has amazing drumming, an amazing guitar riff, and Corey Taylor's rapping is phenomenal. How he goes from singing to rapping to screaming and back to singing again is perfect.

In my opinion, the greatest nu-metal song by the greatest nu-metal band. Come on, people! Number 6!? People can easily relate to this song, and it was the very first Slipknot song I ever liked. Now I love every single one of them.

Just... Brilliant. I honestly think Slipknot is one of THE greatest nu-metal bands around. They have a depth and sheer awesomeness to their music that is nearly unmatched.

5 Freak on a Leash - Korn

I am a huge System of a Down fan, but this song is one of the only tracks that can compete or even beat System of a Down songs for me. I love the second part of the song.

I can't stop headbanging.

Freak on a Leash is great for its angsty and powerful lyrics, and most of all, that demonic beatboxing from Jonathan Davis. Korn started it all for nu-metal.

Freak on a Leash is the best nu-metal song of all time. This is original nu-metal. Chop Suey is stupid!

6 Blind - Korn

Are you guys serious? A Nu-Metal list, and 33 songs through, and there is still nothing from Korn's self-titled debut.

That was a groundbreaking debut and one of the only "Nu-Metal" albums I actually like.

Why is this so low? This is the debut song that pretty much paved the way for the other nu-metal bands to come!

What? It should be in first place! And why is Twisted Transistor ranked higher?

7 Down with the Sickness - Disturbed

I don't understand why "Down with the Sickness" is so low on the list. It should be sitting at no less than five, especially since half of the Linkin Park songs listed here are absolutely horrible.

This should definitely be in the top 3. I guess Linkin Park and Slipknot fanboys have infiltrated this place. Down with the Sickness is undoubtedly better than any Slipknot song. Let's get this in the top 3 at least.

Down with the Sickness is by far the most delightfully psychotic nu-metal song of all time. It probably has the best metal scream (O-WAH-AH-A-A!) as well.

8 Wait and Bleed - Slipknot

Impossible. No other nu-metal song can beat Wait and Bleed. This song deserves to be number 1, not number 32. Corey Taylor's melodic vocals and Mick Thompson's guitar riffs in this song are way better than any other nu-metal song.

For its great chorus harmony and beautifully obnoxious yelling-like vocals, Wait and Bleed is one of Slipknot's greatest masterpieces.

Slipknot was and is the best in the nu-metal field. This song is most likely their best.

9 Numb - Linkin Park

This is a damn joke... Linkin Park's Points of Authority at 2nd and their best (Numb) at 69. Seriously, has anyone here even heard this great song?

It deserves 1st position.

It should be ranked number one. Anything below that for Numb is like a bad practical joke.

It shows that the voting system here is a bit weird. Best song ever made.

10 Dig - Mudvayne

I didn't actually expect this to be on the list, considering there's no Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, or P.O.D. However, the intro to this song, the scream at the very start, is awe-inspiring.

This song is so metal compared to all the other stuff on this list. It's quite a shame that so many Linkin Park songs are so high. It shows what direction our youth is going in.

This needs to be in the Top 10. For a 2-minute or so song, it manages to toughen out the true nu-metal songs. Screaming vocals combined with rapping lyrics, a lurching guitar riff, not to mention a memorable bassline at the beginning, top it off with a more vocal-oriented breakdown. That's what makes a good nu-metal song.

The Contenders
11 Twisted Transistor - Korn

I don't think this is the best song by Korn. It must be Blind or Freak on a Leash, but I also like this one. I vote for it just because this song is the favorite song of the new Korn fan generation (I am the old generation of Korn fan), and that is my motivation.

Why is Linkin Park always considered the best in nu metal? Korn is number 1, so a Korn song must be number 1. All children of Korn, please stop voting for other Korn songs below. Just vote for this one to make at least one Korn song become the best nu metal song. Step by step: this song first, then the others next, and finally, we make this list the top 10 best Korn songs.

12 One Step Closer - Linkin Park

Why are Afterlife and Nightmare above One Step Closer? These songs are heavy metal. One Step Closer should be above these two songs. By the way, it is one of Linkin Park's most aggressive songs from their album Hybrid Theory and out of all their songs released on the radio.

WHAT?! This is simply the best song in the history of nu-metal. I feel ashamed when such good songs stay below the top 20.

One Step Closer is undoubtedly number one. I really can't believe this position. Shut up when Chester is talking to you.

13 Psychosocial - Slipknot

Oh my God, are you just joking with me? Take a look at this. This music is awesome. I listen to this song seven times a day.

I think this song is epic. You should rank this higher than 63.

You've got to be kidding me. It's one of the best nu-metal songs! Please vote this song to number 1. And where is Daddy by Korn?

Below Freak on a Leash? Whatever, Slipknot will always be better.

14 Bring Me to Life - Evanescence

Come on, man, Bring Me to Life rocks. This song should be in the top 10. Better voice (Amy Lee), better guitars (Ben Moody), better drums, and better feature (Paul McCoy).

Best Evanescence song and best nu-metal song. The music video is epic. Bring Me to Life rocks!

Corny as hell, both in the emo lyrics and overblown production, but it's nonetheless very enjoyable. A nice piano intro, great vocals by Amy Lee, and a surprisingly poppy and memorable chorus make this one of the few stomachable nu-metal songs in the early noughties.

15 Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine

Rage Against the Machine is so strong. Although I would not classify them only in Nu-Metal, they are definitely one of the best bands in metal!

Funk metal, but the best one!

How is this not number one? It's the best nu-metal song ever by the best nu-metal band ever (except maybe Linkin Park).

Come on, people, vote for Killing in the Name!

These guys kind of invented nu-metal, so you have to hand it to them.

16 Death Blooms - Mudvayne
17 My Own Summer - Deftones

This is alt-metal at its finest. Deftones were smart to rid themselves of the silly nu-metal label with the release of White Pony.

This song was in Around the Fur, not White Pony, and it is nu-metal. Deftones were one of the main pioneers of the genre.

Pretty good song for nu-metal standards (though not 100% nu).

I wouldn't call Deftones a nu-metal band overall.

18 Last Resort - Papa Roach

Thanks to Papa Roach, everyone in the world knows their life will be cut into pieces, and this is their last resort.

The opening is amazing and brings a whole new element to the genre.

19 Falling Away from Me - Korn

One of Korn's best songs deserves to be over Twisted Transistor in my opinion. Everything about this song is perfect.

20 7 Words - Deftones
21 Bodies - Drowning Pool

This song should be at least top ten and a lot higher than some of these other ones. Back when this album came out, this single was playing non-stop on the radio and used in every video. Still my favorite nu-metal song of all time.

Seriously? This one deserves a good spot at the top. After all, Dave Williams' legacy still lives on, even after his way-too-early passing.

22 B.Y.O.B. - System of a Down

I think (only out of the ten of these) this should be number 1. I love System of a Down, but I think B.Y.O.B. is better than Chop Suey! Also, I like Korn, but System of a Down is better. Slipknot is okay. I'm not going to say they suck because they don't. I don't listen to Disturbed very often. I'm not a huge fan of their music, and Linkin Park should be thrown out of this list forever.

Best System of a Down song... absolutely mental. The tune is extremely catchy, and the screamo is just fantastic!

Everybody's going to the party, have a really good time.

23 Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit

Hey, guys. I don't believe it. Please vote this higher. This one is powerful. Remember the Big Day Out and Woodstock '99 festivals.

This song caused a great riot and sexual assaults. It is the perfect angry song.

24 Give - Cold
25 Bawitdaba - Kid Rock
