Top 10 Best Cover Songs by Death Metal Bands
Death metal bands have covered both metal and non-metal songs. Some death metal covers are seen as controversial.
This list is the place to say what you think about these types of covers.
-
Painkiller - Death
Excellent Judas Priest cover. But I know some Judas Priest fans don't like it, mostly for the death growls.
I knew this would be number one.
-
Circle of the Tyrants - Opeth
Celtic Frost cover. Possibly the best Celtic Frost cover.
-
Black Metal - Vader
A great Venom cover, in my opinion.
-
Aces High - Children of Bodom
Iron Maiden cover. This is one of the fastest and most aggressive Iron Maiden songs. I think Children of Bodom's cover developed the original to its logical and natural direction, but I know some Iron Maiden fans don't like the cover.
-
Fight Fire with Fire - Vader
Metallica cover (the original is probably the heaviest Metallica song).
-
Oops!... I Did It Again - Children of Bodom
Britney Spears death metal cover, LOL.
-
Cold Sweat - Kalmah
Excellent Thin Lizzy cover. Many metal bands love Thin Lizzy and made covers - Metallica, Megadeth, Vader, Gamma Ray, Mastodon, and many more.
-
Balls to the Wall - Amon Amarth
Originally by Accept. Transition to death growls sounds natural to me in this cover.
-
Would? - Opeth
A song originally by Alice in Chains.
-
Somebody Put Something in My Drink - Children of Bodom
The Ramones cover.
-
?
Disciples of Hell - Vital Remains
-
?
Valhalla - Numenor
-
Black Night - Deicide
Deep Purple brutal cover. I kind of like it, but I know it's a controversial cover and many people don't like it. I guess I am just more open to such experiments.
-
Valhalla - Heaven Shall Burn
Blind Guardian went extreme. The result sounds like melodic death metal. Original singer Hansi Kürsch was invited to provide additional clean vocals. Besides, Hansi performed three really brutal screams - actually more brutal and ear-raping than the death growls.
I am a massive Blind Guardian fan and I am OK with this cover. I mean, I wouldn't say they ruined the original (usually fanboys/fangirls of any band say "they ruined the original"). I am more tolerant of experiments in music. This cover, in particular, explored the potential of the original to be made in a different style (extreme genre).
-
Circle of the Tyrants - Obituary
This cover is just so amazing!
Celtic Frost cover (the original is one of my favourite songs by Celtic Frost).
-
God of Thunder - Death
-
Concerto - Obscura
Cacophony cover (originally a neo-classical metal instrumental by Cacophony, i.e. Marty Friedman and Jason Becker).
-
No Remorse - Cannibal Corpse
-
Soldier of Fortune - Opeth
Deep Purple cover. It's a ballad I love a lot.
-
Roundabout - Allegaeon
-
Raining Blood - Vader
Vader are one of the best metal bands for covers.
-
Zero the Hero - Cannibal Corpse
-
The Exorcist - Cannibal Corpse
-
No Commands - Children of Bodom
-
Lookin' Out My Back Door - Children of Bodom
Creedence Clearwater Revival cover. Children of Bodom were just having some fun.
-
Bed of Nails - Children of Bodom
Originally by Alice Cooper.
-
Talk Dirty to Me - Children of Bodom
Haha, you know the original by Poison, right? Enjoy this cover version.
