Top 10 Best Metal Albums of 2025

Here, you can vote for the best albums and EPs released in 2025 within the metal genre of music.
The Top Ten
Parasomnia - Dream Theater

The new album by legendary prog metallers Dream Theater is the first to feature original drummer Mike Portnoy again in more than ten years. It's entertaining from start to finish, even considering a few weaknesses.

Prophet Ilja - Patriarkh

Beautiful atmospheric black metal blended with Eastern European Orthodox folk.

This concept album is amazing from start to finish and clearly deserves to be mentioned among the best releases of the year so far.

Dethmask 3 - Darko

After a rather static release like Starfire, this EP shows further evolution for the band. It leans even more toward electronic influences, incorporating a visual aesthetic that blends dystopia, grotesque imagery, and anime culture.

Original and great to listen to.

Sleepless Empire - Lacuna Coil
Amidst the Ruins - Saor

Atmospheric black metal band Saor comes back with another enchanting spiritual trip across Scottish folklore.

The instrumentals are so well-layered and written, with cellos and flutes enriching the final output. Really good album.

March of the Unheard - The Halo Effect
Scorched Earth - Harakiri for the Sky

This album is amazingly good, as it embodies all the nuances of modern and post-black metal styles. There are shoegaze elements, post-hardcore vocals, black metal blast beats, and doom metal rhythms, even touching on some lyrical themes of DSBM.

It's a long listen, but completely worth it.

Ascension - Mirar

Experimental djent project Mirar already caught attention in 2024 with their splendid EP entitled Mare.

This album continues to develop their groundbreaking blend of industrial and djent, adding more influences from classical music. Soft piano interludes appear between crushing guitar riffs, creating an apocalyptic atmosphere.

Duél - Jinjer

Complex, intricate, and exquisitely progressive. Jinjer's new studio album is powerful, raging, and full of nuances. It requires multiple listens to be fully understood.

Roses from the Deep - Marko Hietala

The Newcomers

? This Consequence - Killswitch Engage
? Tsunami Sea - Spiritbox
The Contenders
The End Will Show Us How - Tremonti
Antifragile - All That Remains
Amphibians - Septicflesh

This EP was a pleasant surprise. After all, there are only two originals and two orchestral versions on it, but the new original songs are definitely among the best I have heard this year, especially the title track.

With Blood Comes Cleansing - With Blood Comes Cleansing
The Sky, the Earth & All Between - Architects
Hymns in Dissonance - Whitechapel
Nine - Bleeding Through

A good comeback from a solid band.

This record maintains the quality expected from Bleeding Through, neither exceeding nor disappointing expectations. Their signature blend of symphonic black metal and metalcore still works well, making for an enjoyable listen.

Descent Into Madness - Enterprise Earth

Good EP with some fillers but also some amazing ideas. III and VI are incredible tracks, dark and majestic.
