Top 10 Best Metal Bands from Montreal, Canada
Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec and the second largest in Canada after Toronto.
Cryptopsy is the heaviest Canadian export - brutal technical death metal. They are the metal pride of my home city and one of Canada's most acclaimed metal bands.

A death metal band - they call their musical style "northern hyperblast," referring to the extremely fast blast beats that Kataklysm's former drummer, Max Duhamel, fused into the music.

They play a rare metal subgenre - technical melodic death metal. I definitely like them.
Songs: Silence Calls the Storm, Point of No Return: Mute Requiem, Break the Cycle, On the Shores of Ithaka.Q

Basically a thrash band. Subgenres - Technical/progressive thrash metal, Thrash metal, Speed metal, Crossover thrash. Some of their songs sound like Thrash meets Pink Floyd and I find it interesting.
I like them a lot (for more details and song samples visit my list "Top 10 Dead Brain Cells Songs").

The Newcomers
Avant-garde metal, formed in 1996 and disbanded in 2015.
They play a unique amalgamation of different metal subgenres like progressive, technical death, black and melodic heavy metal, and of other styles of music including classical, dark cabaret, opera, jazz, funk, electro, ambient, noise, and circus music. The band's debut album was called Utopia.

Female-fronted melodic death metal band.

Technical death metal, avant-garde metal. Formed in 1994 and disbanded in 2010.
Death metal, Viking metal. Albums: Caligvla, Romulus.
Ex Deo was formed in 2008 and is a side project of Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono, based on the history of the Roman Empire. In 2014 they put the band on indefinite hold and said a third album is unlikely.
UPDATE: Third album comes out in February 2017 (The Immortal Wars). Judging by some samples, it's going to be very good.
