The Top Ten Most Violent Sports
While yes, some sports may be more violent, that is their objective. The objective of hockey is to score, not hurt each other. However, it happens so often and so brutally, I truly feel like it deserves the number 1 spot.
I play hockey and I start fights one time the goalies went for a fight by there selfs
Hockey is way more brutal than any other sport. In almost every game, there is a pk shot up to 120 MPH at you. here has been several times where goalies have gotten their throat sliced, including Clint Malarchuk. Players have been impaled on nets before. There are fights almost every single game, hockey is the most violent and brutal sport in history.
In hockey you have a higher risk of getting a concussion and any form of injury. Your stopping time is slowed and it is harder to react to someone coming straight at you. You also go much faster on the ice then on land which makes the injuries and hits greater harder and harder to avoid. Many people have also been hit feom behind and recieved awful back injuries. People have messed up their backs, necks and shoulders from getting hit from behind. You can also take a shot from the puck and that can have the possibility to injure. People have also taken injuries like skates and pucks to the throat or neck. Several goalies have had sliced necks and almost died. There are also fights on the ice which the refs only stop once they fall or get to the ground. The fights can be brutal and sometimes involve the entire team. Ice hockey is the most violent sport.
Broken necks, backs, collar bones, noses, fingers, and toes are entirely too common in this game. Rucks and mauls have some serious potential to injure even the most physically strong and fit. Pro ruggers are freaks of nature, as they are all the size of defensive linemen, defensive ends, linebackers, fullbacks, and tight ends on an American football field, yet they move like the wide-receivers, CB's, safeties and tailbacks and run full-sprint for 80 straight minutes like soccer players. They are some scary individuals.
All the other big contact sports where pads and some sort of protection all you have in rugby is your gum sheild
Rugby is very brutal, the only thing you have to protect you is your muscle, and your speed. Many people get concussions and/or broken bones from just a head on collision, if you were to tackle someone with your head just barely too far to the inside you could break your neck or even die! I would consider the most dangerous team sport in the world.
Played rugby for many years incredibly violent, endured many injuries while I played. Only a scrum hat for protection and very easy to get stepped on when you are on the floor in a ruck. Worst injury I have seen was a broken collar bone when I was a kid. I played a prop and was at the front of everything which also means I was in every ruck, maul and scrum. On the bright side it is great fun and a great way to stay fit
This is a very brutal sport. Nearly every game their would be blood coming out of someone or even breaking bones. Its still weirdly entertaining and this sport has grown in its popularity the past 5 years.
The point of the sport is literally to hurt your opponent.. many sports are brutal but as in the current number one spot, hockey, you are covered in protective gear and number two spot, rugby, you are not trying to hurt your opponent and like most other sports if you become too tired or hurt you may switch out with another player, where as mma you either stay in or lose
The point of the sport is to hurt or score more points (typically by doing more damage) than your opponent. definitely more brutal. I would MUCH rather be tackled into grass or tripped while wearing pads than be punch in the face or even kicked anywhere..
First of all, none of the other spots include getting kicked, punched, slammed in the face, etc. This is a very VERY brutal sport.
American football is by far the most violent sport on the planet. Why? The pads. The evolution of American football has seen technologically advanced padding which professional football players have in turn used to their advantage in using themselves as weapons.
The speed of the game is insane, and when you look at the bulk of the padding, it's on their helmet and shoulders. Defensive players are now using themselves essentially as missiles, driving into chests, waists, and knees. Concussions are also super common, with players using their helmets to hit each other. No other game is full contact with "pads. " And padding makes the game much more fast, and violent.
I say that football is very violent because People are getting tackled constantly. Pads are suppose to protect people from serious injuries, but it's the over way around. The pads add weight to every player on the field making them heavier. When tackling other player, you add force to your weight and the added weight from the pads making the hit even harder which results in a concussion or broken bones.
Consider this when comparing violent sports. In American Football, the reason the players wear pads and a helmet is: if they didn't, someone would die or be permanently injured every game. The speed of the skill players is so extreme, the collisions are more violent than any sport on earth. And that is something that can't be argued.
I think that American football is the most violent sport because you are always getting hit, there is no way to not get hit no matter what position you play.
I play both hockey and lacrosse but...lacrosse is way more violent than hockey, especially box lacrosse. - Lacrosse17
It's only lower because its less known, being a lacrosse player, it's so much rougher than hockey
Should be far higher on the list, I guess it is lower because it is not amongst the most popular/well known sports.
In my opinion LAX is either the most dangerous team sport, or perhaps on a par with hockey, and probably the fastest team sport on foot. Can't think of any other sport where it is legal to take someone out with a 6 foot lump of titanium, and getting hit with a winded-up shot lacrosse ball at over 100mph (fastest shot ever currently stands at 116mph) sure can do some damage, even with pads, the balls are pretty dense. In addition to this, brawls are common.
Without pads, you would get deaths in this sport. That being said, it is so much fun to play!
I play lacrosse up here in Montana and every game is a brutal hack fest of illegal stick and body checks.
The most dangerous sport in my onion after wheelchair swimming
Most dangerous sport in my opinion after wheelchair swimming
This sport is flat out stupid
Most violent ever
This probably more violent then nhl probably more injuries them nhl - trains45
Since inception, you get annual deaths from the sport. Statistically it is the most dangerous.
It is the only sport were you see plenty of its participants develop slurred speech while still active. MMA is catching up though.
I would consider death the most serious injury. In hockey, in NHL history, only one player has died from an on-ice injury. 22 boxers died from their sport in 1953 alone. For frequency of traumatic head injuries, no major sport can match its unfortunate statistics.
I can tell you from experience that after playing this sport for awhile and after a broken nose, wrist, fingers, serious bruising and a few broken ribs it hurts a lot. Fun game though haha.
In my opinion I think that wrestling is a very violent and dangerous game or sport
it is harmful and injuries (physical injuries) like bruise, blood, breaking a bone and even brain damage I don't think wrestling is a great game or sport to play,a lot of people say that wrestling is fake... but is it?!
Very dangerous and can end someones career in any second. They are trained a lot to practice to not totally hurt the opponents.
Wrestling there is a point where your head will hit the mat many times and the head gear does not help and moves that can break any part of your body
Your all alone on the mat so everything that happens is your fault. As well as the hardest practice of any high school sport.
What makes Aussie rules so violent is that it is one of the only games (where the players aren't wearing protective guarding all over them) where players collide full speed from opposite directions. It's faster, though cleaner now than in the 80's in any case through most of the season most teams have 25-35% of their squads unavailable due to injury...
That is not how you spell AUSTRAILIAN it is Australian
Aussie rules footy should be in the top 3 if not number one, as it is a full contact sport without any pads or protective gear, with the exception of a mouth guard. If you watch any of the AFL hardest hits videos, it'll send a shiver down ya spine. they are running straight at each other at full speed and hip-and-shouldering each other. As you can get hit straight to the ground even if you aren't holding or having possession of the ball. personally I think it deserves a higher place over the likes of NFL where they go over the top with pads and it sonly about 5 seconds of action then they break.
Wow this should b first this is the hardest contact sport without protection watch some videos of bumps on youtube
People will drag you underwater by your cap strings, and if you do it to them, you can get punched without a foul being called. Anything goes underwater, as the ref can’t see it. Should be #1.
Very violent sport, I play at national level and the amount of injuries iv had due to rough play from not only boys but the girls too. Clawed and scratched... Punched and kicked, in places where it HURT'S (the nuts), also being hit in the throat makes it hard to breath and when you have great big men pushing and pulling you under it makes it so hard to play.
It is a very aggressive and violent sport where you can get kicked and beaten up withought the ref realising. It may seam like the water will stop kicks but it won't. In general it is a rough sport to play!
I play water polo and let me just say even though I this is my first year I have already almost broken 3 or 4 bones. Anything is fair game underwater and I mean anything, I've had been groped so and if you grope someone it gets you a good punch in the head. Even though all we wear is two pieces of plastic over our ears and our speedo. It is by far the most difficult sport I have ever done.
soccer should at least be in the top five I am only 10 and I have broken my knee 3 times and chiped it 2 and I broke a kids nose by slide tackling him in indoor
Not very violent on the field (in comparison to hockey and rugby) but off the field, there is so much violence surrounding the sport. People fight and sometimes even kill other people for simply supporting another team. In Egypt, fans bombed their own Football Association.
Soccer is about as violent as it gets without full body pads. You are constantly trying to do anything to get the ball. Not to mention most refs will allow elbows here and there, as they prefer to let the ga,e play out. As for those that say soccer is full of "floppers" they do not know how much it hurts to be bulled over by a person running full speed. Also soccer has the inherent risk of knee injury because of the constant stop go action. Most soccer players will blow out a knee sometime in their life.
Injury is common, but some players like Luis Suarez are very violent. Punching, biting, racial abuse is common.
I am a Muay Thai fighter and I know it is far more brutal than any other sport on this list as it said many have died in the ring
Muay tai is the most brutal violent sport by a long shot and many have died in the ring more then mma and boxing
Ice hockey us a joke compared to Muay Thai
The "science of 8 limbs", in Muay Thai the whole body is used to powerfully strike the opponent's body with bonecrushing techniques, is a combat sport like no other.
I'm afraid that anyone who doesn't think that hurling does not belong in the top three at least needs to watch it. The ball moves at 120mph, bodychecking is legal and concussions broken bones and serious body breaking tackles are the norm. Add to that the incredible skills and the fact that its played by amateurs who train harder than most professionals and you have the fastest hardest and most exciting sport in the world.
The ball is like a super-fast rock flying around, the sticks can break bones and, incredibly, next to no protection! Americans really need to watch this sport.
Hurling should be in the top 3 without a doubt like at any of the best takeouts and come back it is some much more violent than most of the ones above it
I cannot believe how hurling is no 12, it should be number 1. so dangerous, no protection and incredible speed
This list is definitely made by an American. Handball is way more violent than American Football. It's extremely fast and physical without wearing any protection, plus it has the most diverse injuries period (which it is often used in medical research projects).
Handball should be at least in the top 5. This game destroyed my complete body but I still love it.
Most violent ball game
Yup that is true
Calcio storico is a brutal sport, it is a sort of huge street fight mixed with a sort of soccer and rugby. it is played just once a year in florence and it isn't on top just because almost anyone knows it outside of Italy.
CALCIO STORICO has been played for over 500 years and there is no other sport on earth that is as violent as this. In every match several players get the teeth knocked off or broken bones.
Well I had to look this up online and it is basically a gang rumble with no weapons. Not much of a skill sport that is for sure. Hockey and Football are like ballet compared to this.
I was brought up playing and watching Australian rules football which is tough enough. Having watched Calcio Storico I can vouch it leaves Aussie rules in its shadow.
If you want a dangerous sport go field hockey. I once played a game and got hit in the shins 7 times. Not one free hit. If you fall over, just get up and deal with it.
If you want to be hit by a wooden stick or a ball that feels like concrete, field hockey is for you. We play with little to no gear,
The ball flies everywhere
It bloody hurts I tell yah
Basketball is a very violent sport has a lot of physical contact a lot of punching that might not be seen and causes serious injuries
Basketball is a non contact sport how is it violent
Basketball is a very high contact sport, pushing and muscling your way around (especially in the key)is allowed, without being excessive. Playing in college had much higher contact than high school.
One of the rudest sports because they get punched in the paint and also elbowed in the pain
Hurts so bad. You get pummeled and thrown and knocked down. Broken bones and bruises and fights are legal like hockey.
I am in Roller Derby. It is an amazing sport. Its fun and its about teamwork. I recommend this sport.
No one knows what this sport is
GREAT - Manlypants
Umm do you want to be thrown around and possibly mauled by an up to over 2000 pound animal with giant hooves and horns that could tear you to shreds? Its common for hands to get stuck in the wrap and arms to be dislocated or broken. this often leads to a mauling and its common to get broken bones, concussions, and knocked teeth. I know someone with a metal plate in his head because of this sport.
This should be at least number 3 if not number 1, some of the bull riders can be killed in less then 8 seconds
As a bull rider, I have to say the sport doesn't get the appreciation it deserves
This should be in the top 5
My grandma just died playing this. Very violent.
A video game? Is it fighting if you lose?
I died playing this game.
List of scary crashes:
Need I go on?
At least 330 Racers have been killed since Auto Racing started on April 28, 1887. This number goes up yearly. - Otaku2012
Violent when you crash... I fail to see why Rugby is the most violent... most dangerous team sport yes... but violent?
This should also be in the top 5
Crickets unusual in that it is completely allowed and expected for the bloke who is bowling to have a number of key intentions. If he's good at it he's throwing (Bowling) a rock hard ball at 90 + mph trying to hit the geezer with the bat on the body somewhere - head, toes, throat, testicles, fingers, all of them relatively vulnerable. It is one of two or three key intentions and everyone plays the game knowing and accepting that this is the case - he is trying to hurt you, if you stand there trying to stop him from hitting the stumps.
But, the same bowler whilst he is trying to hurt you, if you're good enough and fast enough you are completely within your rights to smack the ball back at the bowler with your bat with the intention of injuring him, sending he message... 'Mate if you want to try and hurt me, have some of this'. If you've got any doubts about the levels of aggression and violence find your self a cricket player and just play catch with them using a cricket ball. ...more
A cricket ball is extremely hard and dense and can easily break bones (and sometimes even kill) at speeds above 80 mph. Short pitched bowling is a legitimate tactic used to scare and intimidate the opposition batsmen. Sledging is mentally testing and considering the fact that one has to undergo a combination of physical and mental barrage for over 5 days, test cricket is one of the most brutal sports out there.
Test cricket sucks! And so does normal cricket
This should be higher in the list! Not many people can play the game or even knows what it is so they disregard it. The ball is hard as concrete. It will easily kill you. Maybe you played with a kiddy tennis ball or something so you don't understand. In soccer it is easy to use any part of the body without getting hurt. But... if a cricket ball hits you at high speed you will holler in pain.
This is one of the most rough sports because its mma, kickboxing, or boxing but in a metal cage where you are aloud to slam your opponent into the cold metal sides! Also it's just you and you opponents.
This sport is gaining fans and recognition worldwide. It's essentially like knights in armor in the Middle Ages fighting except they have made it a bit safer so they are no actual deaths by blunting the swords. The Eastern Europeans and particularly Russians have the strongest teams
Do you want to get hit in the eye bye 100 mile per hour ball to your face your life just flashed in front of you and think about your mic nuggets
100 mph ball coming at you with no protection... Injury waiting to happen.
Because there's noobs
It is not most violent but it is very dangerous and can be really painful
Not very violent, just dangerous. - SassyEquine
My sister tore her ACL doing this and I have hurt myself doing it too. Lots of people die doing this wonderful sport. How is it not first? - Horsesrlife
Very violent, you could trip will walking down to the green, and possibly even need a bandaid.
I always get scaried and close my eyes when they do that golf thing
IT IS SO ROUGH WHEN YOU GET IN THE ROUGH LMAOO
The point of the game is hit the other person with the ball the point of the game is to smack someone with a ball who came up with this
Most of the sports on this list are far more violent than cheerleading. Cheerleading is a pastime, not a sport and whatever sport or pastime one participates in, one does it at one's own risk.
And yes I am one. I'm a young flier that's 4 foot 3. We work harder then any soccer football lacrosse player I know. Oh and we don't play cheerleading because it's more important. Every time we go up in the air we are risking our lives. I'm a flier and I put so much trust on my bases to keep me alive. Oh and to all those weak football players that throw 2 pound balls when we throw 100 pound girls in the air, and we actually catch ours. Ok u still don't believe cheerleading is a sport. The definition of a sport is to have fun and get exercise.
Football players aren't weak. Don't disrespect us and we wont disrespect you. - SuperCharged
Hey each time a player shoots the goalie risks his life a dense ball that's hits your neck and crush your windpipe
It’s a little late to say “we won’t disrespect you” because people still think cheerleading isn’t a sport. It is because we do through actually people in the air. We do through ourselves in the air. And no we don’t just yell out and say things. We work as a team, together as one. Also, cheerleading isn’t just for girls. It is for girls and boys. The IOC declared cheerleading is a sport in December 2016. ESPN also holds a competition in Orlando, Florida every year. The best teams (levels 5 & 6) compete for first place. So anyone who says cheerleading isn’t a sport, do some research, rethink your statement or thought, and just educate yourself. Please.
Swimming is dangerous not violent your in seperate lanes there is no physical contact with anyone else
Ok, I know what your thinking. Vollyball is not violent. Except for the ball. It is so big and you wear no pads. If the ball hits you in the face, your doomed. Also, it could hurt your hands if you hit it the wrong way.
If you fall down you may not be able to get back up. If get to hill you can't handle never give up because likely chance you'll survive. Trust me I should know. But always be careful it will wipe you out when you least expect to.
So football is 29 but you break someone's bone with a well placed shoulder and he away with it. But in so car which is placed higher than both gaa sports you breath on someone they dive you get a red piss off
You can box someone kick them in the sore spot call them a F''en eijit box them again and get away with it
I have been at races were bikes have landed on top of other people, and races were people have to jump off the bike in mid-air to land.
1 time I eat so much cake I almost died
One word chocking
If you want to be hit by a full speed flying ball then this is your sport
Not many know about this, it was in the Ancient Greece Olympics and the entire point of it was to fight to the death or until your opponent bails out from pain.
Search it up, I speak the truth.
Very dangerous, a lot of long term injuries to the knees and ankles.
