Movies That Didn't Win Oscars But Should Have
-
12 Angry Men
-
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
This definitely should have gotten an award! This movie was amazing!
-
A Clockwork Orange
-
The Shawshank Redemption
The only reason this movie didn't win Oscars is that it had the unfortunate coincidence of coming out in the same year as "Forrest Gump."
I think the film should have won Best Picture at the Oscars instead of Forrest Gump.
Clearly one of the best of all time and a strong fan favorite!

Fight Club
Fight Club is a great film that is not only very stylish and has great acting, but also serves as an intelligent critique of both capitalism and its alternatives. It holds up nicely and should have been nominated for a few more of the big awards. But no. Instead, tosh like American Beauty won, and this film wasn't fully appreciated until years later. Such a shame.
It is a great movie that will make you think. But if you are a punk head, for sure you will never like it. Thank you both, Pitt and Norton.

Psycho (1960)
One of my favorite horror films of all time! It really deserved it!
-
Alien 3
Yes, it was not as good as Alien or Aliens, but in 1992, Alien 3 was the best sci-fi movie with unique visual effects.
-
The Shining
This is a movie whose greatness is overlooked because it's a horror film. I personally believe it is also a fantasy film, with a stunning performance by Jack Nicholson and a very underrated one by Shelley Duvall. That combination makes this my favorite movie.
I believe it should have been nominated for the 1981 Oscars and won Best Picture and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Nicholson.
It's a shame that this movie didn't win an Oscar. It should have won Best Picture, Best Actor (Jack Nicholson), and Best Soundtrack. Come on! Jack was at his best in this movie, and the soundtrack was like nothing ever heard before. How could they ignore that back then?
It's also sad to see movies like Twilight and Pirates of the Caribbean come before The Shining. What a shame!

The Green Mile
-
It's a Wonderful Life
-
?
Edward Scissorhands
At the very least, it should've been nominated for Best Original Score and Production Design.
-
?
Vertigo
-
Remember the Titans
This Denzel Washington performance was AMAZING! I cried for ten minutes after the movie. It was so sad.
-
A League of Their Own
-
American History X
-
Seven
I came here intending to add Seven to the list. It's good to see someone else beat me to it.
How Seven wasn't considered for Oscar nods is beyond me. (They usually ignore creepy films, though.) Brad Pitt's best performance ever. Morgan Freeman's best since Shawshank. Fincher made a movie that was completely original. I've never seen anything like it before or since, and I think the story is as good as it gets.
The acting, art direction, editing, and screenplay were all superb. The screenplay! How could it have been better? It was as good as cinema gets. The story had the best twist-ending of a movie ever.
Twilight at #4? Really? This list just lost all credibility. Se7en is one of the greatest films of all time.

Twilight
Well, it won some awards at least, although MTV Movie Awards and Razzies are hardly impressive.
-
Taxi Driver
-
The Good The Bad & The Ugly
-
Hollow Man
-
The Truman Show
Rightfully nominated for Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Ed Harris), and Best Original Screenplay. It should have also been nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor (Jim Carrey).
Nominated for three, it should have won Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay.
-
Stand By Me
-
Casino Royale
-
Ghostbusters
-
Toy Story
-
Singin' in the Rain
-
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
It won Best Original Screenplay, and Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress. However, Jim Carrey and the film itself should have been nominated as well.
I know it won Best Original Screenplay, but it should have won Best Picture. It wasn't even nominated!
