Top 10 Best Drug Movies

The Top Ten
1 Requiem For a Dream

Fear and Loathing and Half baked are sure fun drug movies, but this movie could turn most people off the dangerous drugs. What's really special is they include prescription medication in this story and make it look just as bad as heroin. That's something many people don't think about, that drugs your doctor gives you can be just as harmful.

This movie almost killed me... I just sat dazed for the next 10 mins after the credits... Oh man! It made me realize that you don't need a ghost or some psycho to kick some serious nightmare and depression into you. I ain't exaggerating or overrating this movie...

Not very realistic because there's no alternatives showing in the movie. I mean, if you're on a edge from heroine ( which is overact in this movie ) you can Always looking for help in free methadon programs.

This movie is brilliant... I cannot describe it. Many people say that it is not apropriate for teenagers, but when I saw it (and I'm a teenager) it really changed me! It's a movie everyone should watch! And I cried when I watched it.. A LOT...

2 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Requiem For a Dream take is a movie that show the dark side of being a addict, but this one take you to a other side of taking everything to the limit.

The movie is based on a book written by Hunter S. Thompson, and its supposed to be true. On what level, I don't know.

Anyway, you are going to love it or hate it. Or maybe, you are going to understand it or maybe not.

Crazy movie.

This film is both poetic in the internal monologue of the protagonist, and hilarious for the same reasons. It shows the true excess of drug abuse while also remaining enjoyable to watch, and makes you think about life pretty deeply (as well as making you want a tab or two yourself). Unlike many films, it gives a view that isn't exactly anti-drug, but rather anti-excess.

How is this not on that top ten list?
Seriously, who ever made that list has either never done a single illegal drug, or else has done way to many.

Fear and Loathing should be near or at the top of any "best drug movies of all time" list.

The funniest movie I have ever seen. There have been way to many time in my life where I have felt as awkward and tweaked out as the character Raoul. To any person who has not seen this movie, go out and get it tonight!

3 Scarface

Scarface was a popular-ass film that has to do with one thing: Drugs! That's the main theme other than Sex and Violence. Drug Smuggling, Drug Use. It's a gangster film! One of the best that is! Needs to be #1!

What a actor, no one could have played his part, and made it seem so real. This movie is the best.

Your womb is polluted you can't even have a baby!
Favourite line from the move..

Top drug movie period. Pacino cemented his legacy with this movie.

4 Blow

If only there was a movie which didn't pretend all drug empires end with a collapse and fall; however the acting quality in this movie is so powerful, you feel Pablo Escobar is in the same room. I ain't going to post any spoilers, go watch this master piece!

Blow is a very underrated movie! I has to be one of the best drug movies due to the fact its based on a true story! I has depth in the story and has cause and effect! Johnny Depp is a great actor and makes the movie better!

A well detailed journey of George Jung's life throughout the ranks in the drug world; from user, distributer, dealer and finally to supplier.

A must see for ALL, especially the stoners/druggies.

I agree this movie flew under the radar when it shouldn't have. The acting by Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp was dynamic pair. I loved it!

5 Pulp Fiction

"Fear and Loathing" ahead of "Pulp Fiction? " Give me a break. MOst people didn't "get" Loathing and the critics blasted it. It's a great movie about Hunter Thompson and it was just a goofy, misunderstood and off-the-wall as Hunter's life. (I"ll never understand how Depp won an oscar for that pirate movie, yet no one noticed his awesome portrayal of Thompson. ) That being said, there's no way Loathing is a better drug movie than Pulp Fiction or Trainspotting, for too many reasons to try and list.

Where is Drugstore Cowboy and Panic in Needle Park?

Jules' speech from Ezekiel 25:17:
'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon the. '

Pulp Fiction is a wonderful movie that I would not put above or below Fear and Loathing, because I would place it in a completely different category. Yes, they both deal with some aspects of the drug world, but the intent behind them is completely different. Also to Okami: She did not snort Brazilian Cocaine; it was heroin.

If you have a movie with Uma getting stabbed in the chest so she doesn't die from an overdose, that is a movie that should be in the top 3!

6 GoodFellas

This movie was great. Best of Deniro. A must watch for anybody.

7 Dazed and Confused

I went to a graduation friday night... Well, after graduation, they started playing old classic rock songs... I thought of dazed and confused... When I was leaving, FREE BIRD was playing... It was great

Love this movie its brilliant great feel for the 70's I think it isn't really a drug movie as much as say.. the basketball diaries which should be first on the list!

This movie is awesome... Nothing better then boys and girls getting high and drunk the whole move.

Thi is the best movie I ever watched, I swear I watched it more than 938393947939 times.. It absoultly amazing. They should make another one.

8 Trainspotting

Hi how ya doing! My names mike, and even though I wouldn't disrespect the opinions of the people who have voted to make this top ten list, only because they have a right to voice their opinions, I will say that I very seriously doubt they have seen a quarter of the movies that make up this category, to even compare them. Please don't get me wrong... Requiem for a dream is one of my all time favorites.. But even still I am an enthusiast of drug and gangster related movies... Well let me get to the point, Trainspotting isn't something you come across on your everyday movie listings... There for it is underappreciated... I believe the first time I saw it, it was labled under indie... If true enthusiasts like myself had voted for this list... Trainspotting would have come out on top... If you don't believe me, I only ask that you watch it 2 times, because you wont understand it the first time around laugh out loud. It is by far the best heroin based drug movie ever made and I would still ...more

This was truly a fantastic film in itself irregardless of the drug theme, acting, directing, characterisation, all of it superb. Having said that portrayal of drugs, particularly the problem in Scotland, is handled beautifully, humorously, shockingly, realisticaly and its conclusion that makes us feel the addiction of heroin is not insurmountable. Number one for me as a drug film and in my top 5 faves.

From brutally heart-wrenching to hilarious, from disgusting to brutally real in some parts, to obvious comedic exaggerations, these films also explore the creation of unreal scenes to convey a message. Examples include 'The Worst Toilet in Scotland' in Trainspotting and the part in Requiem for a Dream where the character ODs, sinks into the carpet, and then the scene flashes to Lou Reed softly playing in the background as his head thumps on each stair while being dragged out and dropped into a cab. I love both Requiem for a Dream and Trainspotting. When it comes to hard looks at addiction, especially heroin, these two films take the cake any day.

It's gritty and dirty and very real. The acting is superb, to the point where you're surprised that Ewan McGregor and Co. don't have a real addiction to drugs! It's under appreciated. However, I find it far superior to any other drug movie because of it's hyper realism.

9 How High

This movie still makes me laugh after watching it like 1000 times.
Shut up and you might have some fun this semester! haha

10 Up in Smoke

Up in Smoke is a classic, how can it not be in the top 10?!

The Contenders
11 Friday

I know you don't smoke weed, I know this. But Ima get you high today. Cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got st to do.

This was the funniest movie I ever seen. Chris Tucker Is Funny. Every Person Fron The 90's generation loves it!

Day be going ham doe. Day be rollin it up and smokin it up in day hood.

This is the funniest Hood movie of all time I love this so much, this should be in the top 5, because it's so funny

12 Party Monster

Club Kids. Drugs, drugs and more drugs. I love this movie for so many reasons. Seth Green and MacCauley Culkin (not to mention Marilyn Manson as the acid baked transsexual - "How do you like my UFO? "). A must see. Based on the true story of the Club Kids - Drugs, a killer soundtrack, and a Big Bang Murder. Do not miss this. Should be in the top ten.

Best drug/ club movie ever made. Made me start my own parties in town, and working towards owning my own night club, where people never have to grow up and the party never ends!

This is an amazingly fun movie. This deserves to rank higher on the list, at least it does on my too drug movie list.

13 Half Baked

Deserves to be top 10. Best comedy stoner movie ever off the top of my head, beats cheech and chong and how high, etc.. If you don't love this movie you couldn't be my friend back when I was a stoner.

This movie still has me rolling after the 100th time of viewing it!

This movie is so funny. It never gets old. Bring back good memories.

14 Pineapple Express

Man, it's the best stonner movie I have ever watched... I have seen this movie 20+ times and even now it manages to make me laugh which is not an easy task. It's a great comedy... just give a try. It should definitely be in top ten... Come on guys vote for it.

First of all you can't consider marijuana as a drug because it's a herb. It's a all time favourite stonner movie with awesome scenes and dialogues. Plus the climax fight in the movie is way too cool. Man, James franco rocks!

... Full of entertainment... Good drug movie... You will be laughing throughout d movie... Laugh out loud

Probably the funniest drug movie of all time. Definitely needs to be higher in the list

15 Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle

A hilarious film. Not the best but against films like train spotting and pulp fiction its not surprising altho me myself I would not be disappointed being just one rank under pulp fiction which will always have its place in the top movies ever! But over all an absolutely hilarious movie had me pissing myself through the whole thing. I would advise for maximum pleasure to have a nice join in your hand and plenty of munch and your in for one hell of a movie experience

The first two Harold and Kumar movies (white castle and Guantanamo bay) were great but the third movie was absolute crap! ( the Christmas one)

The Jamie Kennedy peeing on a bush scene was one of the most randomly funny scenes in movie history.

Laugh out loud I saw this movie on a plane to Vegas!

16 American Gangster

This should be in the top ten with Empire Nothing sells like that blue magic.

17 Spun

Not very realistic movie. They act like they are on cocaïne rather than methamphetamine.
When they take the drug, the movie shows an extreme constriction of the pupils. It should be the reverse ( amphetamines dilate the pupils as cocaïne does. Only heroin and some other opiates constrict the pupils ). As for the movie, at one point he buys in a store some ephedra pills ( wich contains ephedrine and pseudoephedrine a molecule that can easely converted to methamphetamine ) and his lab blows up? It can only blow up with other methods for making meth. Not from converting ephedrine and pseudoephedrine into methamphetamine. The conclusion is that despite the movie is good, there's a lack of realism.

The Director and Writer(s) of this film have definitely been down this road before. Most of the movie is spot on with how people carry themselves while abusing this certain substance... Amazing that some of us would do this to ourselves!

Really an all encompassing film surrounding the chaos and unpredictable nature of an addict and their complete war zone of a lifestyle they've spawned just from using a substance.

This movie should be near the top of the list. This is a great film with interesting cinematography. A+ to Brittany Murphy, Mickey Rourke, and Jason Schwatzman. 10/10

18 Candy

Love this movie! love the scene where he shoots her up in the bathtub and you can actually see blood gush into the needle.

Best, no words, so beautiful, made me cry, I see this as a window into my friends/ ex lovers life.. I want to change this for him,

It made me cry - one of the best movies I've ever seen. Simply wonderful

No words describe candy

19 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

A movie, within a movie! This was a great movie and made me and my friends laugh so hard we almost peed our pants.

20 The Salton Sea

I hate Val Kilmer in most movies, but his portrayal of Danny Parker/Tom VanAllen in this film should have been considered Oscar worthy. The best modern, film-noir creation since Memento.

A twisted story of a meth filled reality from a mans point of view.

This is one wild movie!

One of my favorites

21 Layer Cake

Underrated, should definitely be no.3 at least

22 Bad Boys II

It features an ecstacy racket and a cartel kingpin using the drug money to move from Miami to Cuba. The only problem is that rats are eating his money.

One of the funniest drug parts of a movie. When he takes the pills and goes to the sargents house its pure comedy!

Bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do?
Whatcha gonna do when we come for you?

Wil Smith and Martin Lawrence rule in this movie.

23 A Clockwork Orange

Don't need to be on drugs to enjoy this one. It is it's own bad trip. Droogs are everywhere. One of the Kubrick's finest

24 Dude, Where's My Car?
