Top 10 Best Drug Movies

The Top Ten
1 Requiem For a Dream

Fear and Loathing and Half Baked are sure fun drug movies, but this movie could turn most people off dangerous drugs. What's really special is they include prescription medication in this story and make it look just as bad as heroin. That's something many people don't think about, that drugs your doctor gives you can be just as harmful.

This movie almost killed me. I just sat dazed for the next 10 minutes after the credits. Oh man! It made me realize that you don't need a ghost or some psycho to kick some serious nightmare and depression into you. I'm not exaggerating or overrating this movie.

2 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Requiem For a Dream is a movie that shows the dark side of being an addict, but this one takes you to another side of taking everything to the limit.

The movie is based on a book written by Hunter S. Thompson, and it's supposed to be true. To what level, I don't know.

Anyway, you are going to love it or hate it. Or maybe, you are going to understand it, or maybe not.

Crazy movie.

This film is both poetic in the internal monologue of the protagonist and hilarious for the same reasons. It shows the true excess of drug abuse while also remaining enjoyable to watch and makes you think about life pretty deeply (as well as making you want a tab or two yourself). Unlike many films, it gives a view that isn't exactly anti-drug but rather anti-excess.

3 Scarface

Scarface was a popular film that has to do with one thing: Drugs! That's the main theme other than sex and violence. Drug smuggling, drug use. It's a gangster film! One of the best that is! Needs to be #1!

What an actor, no one could have played his part and made it seem so real. This movie is the best.

Your womb is polluted. You can't even have a baby!
Favorite line from the movie.

4 Blow

If only there was a movie that didn't pretend all drug empires end with a collapse and fall. However, the acting quality in this movie is so powerful, you feel as if Pablo Escobar is in the same room. I'm not going to post any spoilers, go watch this masterpiece!

Blow is a very underrated movie! It has to be one of the best drug movies due to the fact it's based on a true story! It has depth in the story and shows cause and effect! Johnny Depp is a great actor and makes the movie better!

A well-detailed journey of George Jung's life throughout the ranks in the drug world. From user, distributor, dealer, and finally to supplier.

A must-see for ALL, especially the stoners/druggies.

5 Pulp Fiction

"Fear and Loathing" ahead of "Pulp Fiction?" Give me a break. Most people didn't "get" Loathing, and the critics blasted it. It's a great movie about Hunter Thompson and it was just as goofy, misunderstood, and off-the-wall as Hunter's life. (I'll never understand how Depp won an Oscar for that pirate movie, yet no one noticed his awesome portrayal of Thompson.) That being said, there's no way Loathing is a better drug movie than Pulp Fiction or Trainspotting, for too many reasons to try and list.

Where is Drugstore Cowboy and Panic in Needle Park?

6 GoodFellas

This movie was great. The best of De Niro. A must-watch for anybody.

7 Dazed and Confused

I went to a graduation Friday night. Well, after graduation, they started playing old classic rock songs. I thought of Dazed and Confused. When I was leaving, Free Bird was playing. It was great.

Love this movie. It's brilliant and captures a great feel for the 70's. I think it isn't really a drug movie as much as, say, The Basketball Diaries, which should be first on the list!

This movie is awesome. Nothing better than boys and girls getting high and drunk the whole movie.

8 Trainspotting

Hi, how are you doing? My name is Mike. Although I wouldn't disrespect the opinions of the people who have voted to make this top ten list - since they have a right to voice their opinions - I must say that I seriously doubt they have seen even a quarter of the movies that make up this category for comparison.

Please don't get me wrong. Requiem for a Dream is one of my all-time favorites. However, I am an enthusiast of drug and gangster-related movies. To get to the point, Trainspotting isn't something you come across in your everyday movie listings. Therefore, it is underappreciated.

I believe the first time I saw it, it was labeled as indie. If true enthusiasts like myself had voted for this list, Trainspotting would have come out on top. If you don't believe me, I only ask that you watch it twice, because you won't understand it the first time around - laugh out loud. It is, by far, the best heroin-based drug movie ever made, and I would still rank Requiem for a Dream as second because I love all the Wayans brothers.

In case you don't understand the true point I'm trying to make, I will leave you with this: Don't watch one movie and not the others. If you do, you're not allowing yourself the option to choose the best. You're only voting for the one movie that you did see. And if you did only see the one, you don't even have a real opinion, nor the right to state it.

9 How High

This movie still makes me laugh after watching it like 1000 times.
Shut up, and you might have some fun this semester! Haha.

10 Up in Smoke

Up in Smoke is a classic. How can it not be in the top 10?!

The Contenders
11 Friday

I know you don't smoke weed, I know this. But I'm gonna get you high today. 'Cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got stuff to do.

This was the funniest movie I've ever seen. Chris Tucker is funny. Every person from the 90's generation loves it!

They be going ham, though. They be rolling it up and smoking it up in their hood.

12 Party Monster

Club Kids. Drugs, drugs, and more drugs. I love this movie for so many reasons. Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin (not to mention Marilyn Manson as the acid-baked transsexual - "How do you like my UFO?"). A must-see. Based on the true story of the Club Kids - Drugs, a killer soundtrack, and a Big Bang Murder. Do not miss this. Should be in the top ten.

Best drug/club movie ever made. It made me start my own parties in town and work towards owning my own nightclub, where people never have to grow up and the party never ends!

13 Half Baked

Deserves to be top 10. Best comedy stoner movie ever off the top of my head, beats Cheech and Chong and How High, etc. If you don't love this movie, you couldn't be my friend back when I was a stoner.

This movie still has me rolling after the 100th time of viewing it!

This movie is so funny. It never gets old. Brings back good memories.

14 Pineapple Express

Man, it's the best stoner movie I have ever watched. I have seen this movie 20+ times, and even now it manages to make me laugh, which is not an easy task. It's a great comedy. Just give it a try. It should definitely be in the top ten. Come on, guys, vote for it.

First of all, you can't consider marijuana as a drug because it's a herb. It's an all-time favorite stoner movie with awesome scenes and dialogues. Plus, the climax fight in the movie is way too cool. Man, James Franco rocks!

Full of entertainment. Good drug movie. You will be laughing throughout the movie. Laugh out loud.

15 Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle

A hilarious film. Not the best, but against films like Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction, it's not surprising. Although I, myself, would not be disappointed being just one rank under Pulp Fiction, which will always have its place in the top movies ever! But overall, an absolutely hilarious movie had me laughing throughout the whole thing. I would advise for maximum pleasure to have a nice joint in your hand and plenty of munchies, and you're in for one hell of a movie experience.

The first two Harold and Kumar movies (White Castle and Guantanamo Bay) were great, but the third movie was absolute crap! (The Christmas one)

16 American Gangster

This should be in the top ten with Empire. Nothing sells like that blue magic.

17 Spun

The Director and Writer(s) of this film have definitely been down this road before. Most of the movie is spot on with how people carry themselves while abusing this certain substance. Amazing that some of us would do this to ourselves!

This film is really all-encompassing, surrounding the chaos and unpredictable nature of an addict and the complete war zone of a lifestyle they've spawned just from using a substance.

This movie should be near the top of the list. It's a great film with interesting cinematography. A+ to Brittany Murphy, Mickey Rourke, and Jason Schwartzman. 10/10

18 Candy

Love this movie! Love the scene where he shoots her up in the bathtub, and you can actually see blood gush into the needle.

Best, no words, so beautiful, made me cry. I see this as a window into my friends'/ex-lovers' life. I want to change this for him.

It made me cry - one of the best movies I've ever seen. Simply wonderful.

19 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

A movie within a movie! This was a great movie and made me and my friends laugh so hard we almost peed our pants.

20 The Salton Sea

I hate Val Kilmer in most movies, but his portrayal of Danny Parker/Tom VanAllen in this film should have been considered Oscar-worthy. The best modern film-noir creation since Memento.

A twisted story of a meth-filled reality from a man's point of view.

21 Layer Cake

Underrated. Should definitely be no. 3 at least.

22 Bad Boys II

It features an ecstasy racket and a cartel kingpin using drug money to move from Miami to Cuba. The only problem is that rats are eating his money.

One of the funniest drug parts of a movie. When he takes the pills and goes to the sergeant's house, it's pure comedy!

Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?
Whatcha gonna do when we come for you?

23 A Clockwork Orange

Don't need to be on drugs to enjoy this one. It is its own bad trip. Droogs are everywhere. One of Kubrick's finest.

24 Dude, Where's My Car?

Dunn Dunn Dunn! Funny and enjoyable.
