Top 10 Reasons Ralph Breaks the Internet Is Better Than the First Movie
You did not walk into Ralph Breaks the Internet looking for smaller stakes or safer jokes. You wanted bigger worlds, sharper laughs, and more heart, and this sequel knows how to give you all three without losing the charm that made you care in the first place.
The first movie was fun, but the sequel feels bolder and way more alive. It gives your favorite characters more room to grow, throws them into a setting packed with energy, and finds smart new ways to be funny. By the time it is over, you are not just thinking about cute references or flashy scenes. You are thinking about why this movie felt like a stronger, fuller ride.
-
Better Character Development
I love how they developed the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope.
-
Better Use of Its Setting/Environment
One of the things I found disappointing about the first film was how little they actually did with the video game concept. This film really took advantage of the internet setting.
-
Better Humor
I'm not gonna lie, some of the humor is pretty dated. However, there are some really funny jokes in this movie, and I honestly find it funnier than the first movie overall.
-
Vanellope's Musical Number (A Place Called Slaughter Race)
I actually think the first movie could have benefited from being a musical. This movie only has one musical number, but it is really funny and catchy. However, it also helps show the struggles that Vanellope is facing.
Vanellope's song about going Turbo.
-
Better Cameos
The first movie had some cool cameos, but the appearances in this movie are downright insane! This movie is a must-watch for any Disney fan just for that reason.
-
Vanellope Is More Likable and Relatable
I feel like a lot of people will disagree with me on this one. I like Vanellope overall in the first film, but she can be rather annoying at times. In this film, I find her motivation much more understandable. She is relatable in both her anxiety and her desire for greater fulfillment in her life.
-
More Drama
The first movie definitely has some serious moments, but I felt this movie really took it up a notch, especially toward the end of the film. The fight between Ralph and Vanellope is really well done and becomes really emotional in light of the events of the first film.
-
Ralph's Loneliness and Insecurity Are Further Explored
At least he learns something, unlike that jerk Vanellope, who only cares about herself and never learns anything from her misbehavior.
-
The Ending Is More Bittersweet
I generally do prefer downright happy endings, but the fairly sad ending makes this movie more powerful, in my opinion. I actually think it makes the first movie more emotional, considering how that movie ends. It essentially negates the first movie's ending, but I think it works well because it shows how friendships change and drift apart over time.
-
Better Side Characters
Several of the side characters in the first film are fairly annoying or just plain unlikable.
Shank basically replaces Calhoun.
