The Top Ten
Regan MacNeil (The Exorcist) Regan Teresa MacNeil is a fictional character from William Peter Blatty's horror novel and film adaptation The Exorcist as a supporting character and its first sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic and the sequel television series, The Exorcist, as one of the main protagonists in season one. In both films,... read more

I still can't sleep every time I see that face. It creeps the hell outta me! I mean, in some parts of the movie, it's not that scary, but in many parts, it creeps me out. This movie is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.

I vividly remember, as a 10-year-old kid, when The Exorcist came out. Seeing the pictures of Regan in magazines and newspaper articles, she looked absolutely frightening to me then!

I saw her in Scary Maze, but her face was just her skin color changed to gray, as if the picture of her was colorized.

Michael Myers (Halloween) Michael Myers is a character from the Halloween series of slasher films. He first appears in John Carpenter's Halloween as a young boy who murders his older sister, then fifteen years later returns home to murder more teenagers... read more

It's something about the way it looks if he's looking directly at you. The solid black eye-holes and the unforgiving look really creep me out. Sometimes, I even have nightmares of him nearly killing me, and him just being unrelenting. You can't change my mind about Michael's mask being the scariest face in all of horror movies.

Sorry guys, but I'll have to vote for this one because of its genius originality of creep factor - an emotionless face. I praise this mask because of its iconic and memorable image, being more simple than many other masks like Leatherface or Jason, and scarier.

Pennywise the Clown (IT)

Come on, Jigsaw isn't scary. He's a lame puppet in a movie where the plot is so stupid and the characters so unbelievable that no one is scared - they're just grossed out. It's sad people these days can't tell the difference. Anyway, I voted for Pennywise because I remember, as a kid, walking past the movie at the video store and being too afraid to watch it just because the clown on the front was terrifying.

IT is a great movie, but Pennywise is really creepy. I was already scared of clowns, and after watching this movie, I'm totally freaked out by them.

Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Leatherface is a character in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror-film series and its spin-offs. He wears masks made of human skin and engages in murder and cannibalism, alongside his inbred family.

You may not see this inbred's face, but he would be extremely ugly! And that mask! It's made of human skin, dried from a freshly dead human. And he prances around in his skin/face mask. The scariest mask of his was the 1974 version. Good god, it looked so real... I can't stop thinking about it since I watched it at the beginning of summer!

He looks so dang gross. He has a mask made out of human skin. He looks even scarier than Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers.

The old version is so creepy you get nightmares just by looking at it. NOT THE 2003 ONE! That's not scary.

Freddy Krueger (Nightmare On Elm Street) Fred "Freddy" Krueger is the main antagonist of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. He first appeared in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

Well, I have a little story. I have something like a picture of him on my iPod. I set my alarm for about 6:00. Well, my iPod works so that it doesn't go to my alarm. It shows the picture. My iPod doesn't play music and video at the same time, but neither does anyone else's. So now, every morning, since I usually leave the picture on before I go to sleep, I wake up and see Krueger's face. Not the most fun thing to wake up to.

Freddy gives you nightmares, which, well, isn't the best thing to happen, right? I didn't think so.

Ghostface (Scream)

So scary that I can't sleep. When I wake up at night, I go sleep in my parents' bed. I didn't see the movie but think it's nice.

This is one of the most iconic masks in cinema history!

Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) Jason Voorhees is a character from the Friday the 13th series. He first appeared in Friday the 13th as the young son of camp cook-turned-murderer, Mrs. Voorhees.

You gotta be kidding me if he's not first. He wears the creepiest and most classic hockey mask cinema has ever known. Behind it, the most horrifying zombie face.

Jigsaw Puppet (Saw)

My biggest gripe about the Saw films is that they focused way too much on killing people with traps and not enough on the actual villain. Jigsaw is one scary mother even without his mask! If he actually went out and killed people face to face with a knife or something, I guarantee the popularity of the films would go through the roof.

I couldn't sleep for six years because of this face. Scariest thing I ever saw in my life. I had to secretly burn my parents' Saw movies just to get rid of that horrifying face on the cover.

Pazuzu (The Exorcist) Pazuzu is a fictional character who is the main antagonist in The Exorcist horror novels and film series, created by William Peter Blatty.

Why is this not higher? Out of all the horror movie faces that I have seen, none has disturbed and scarred me more than Pazuzu. It is no contest. This face made it hard for me to go to sleep, let alone stop haunting me through the night. I had trouble sleeping for weeks. Why is Ghostface higher than Pazuzu? His face seemed more funny than scary.

The face of the demon that appears for 3 frames during Father Karras' dream. Absolutely terrifying. It can't be unseen.

I would say this creepy white demon should be above Regan MacNeil for obvious reasons.

Chucky (Child's Play) Charles Lee Ray is a fictional character and the titular antagonist of the Child's Play horror film series.

The Newcomers

? Bughuul (Sinister)

This guy is cool looking. Is it just me, or does his face resemble the main character in Watchmen?

I was scared to death when I saw him for the first time.

? Bathsheba Sherman (The Conjuring)

When the witch is on top of the mom in bed! Super creepy-looking face and I think easily top 3 scariest faces in a movie. Then she proceeds to puke in her mouth, thus possessing her. Classic.

That part where the witch jumps from the top of the cupboard...

She scared me real good.

The Contenders
Samara Morgan (The Ring) Sadako Yamamura, also known as Park Eun-suh and Samara Morgan, is the central antagonist of Koji Suzuki's Ring novel series and the film franchise.

Oh my god. After you see this movie, you're like, Eh, that was pretty good. Later, you start seeing things...

When I actually watch this movie, I'm not scared. Thinking about it in bed... totally different story.

She doesn't really show her face, but she's very scary nevertheless.

Kayako Saeki (The Grudge)

The cracking sound she makes is even scarier than her face. Proves that the anticipation of a jumpscare can be much scarier than the jumpscare itself.

Don't anyone dare add a picture! I have a phobia of the creaking door sounds in my house, thanks to her! Please don't add a picture of her to the list. I'll be scared to touch my computer if that happens.

Kayako is terrifying on her own (close behind Samara Morgan), but the way they made her appear in the movies is what makes it bone-chilling. Girl with white skin, long black hair, and a white dress? Nope!

Smile Entity (Smile)
Annabelle (The Conjuring)

Super eerie. Makes me (and many others) feel uneasy.

Possessed Mia (Evil Dead)
Xenomorph (Alien) The Alien (also known as a Xenomorph XX121 or Internecivus raptus, or simply a xenomorph) is a fictional extraterrestrial species that serves as the title antagonist of the Alien film series.
The Skinamarink (Skinamarink)
Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal) Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a character in a series of suspense novels by Thomas Harris. Lecter was introduced in the 1981 thriller novel Red Dragon as a forensic psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer.

Anthony Hopkins is a great actor as well.

Lipstick-Face Demon (Insidious)

Not even the scariest creature in the movie, and it's still beyond horrifying.

Entity (Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum)
Malthus (The Conjuring)
Jack Torrance (The Shinning) John Daniel Edward "Jack" Torrance is the main antagonist of Stephen King's horror novel The Shining.

It's only when he says, "Here's Johnny!"

Frank Cotton (Hellraiser)
Annie/Paimon (Hereditary)
The Babadook (The Babadook)

This movie is so scary. I don't like it.
