Top 10 Bands That Need to Retire the Most in 2025

These are bands that, at one point, were pretty creative and had a lot to say but have now run their course. Whether due to corporate greed, vocal strain, a general lack of creativity, or sometimes all of the above, it's time for them to call it quits.

The Top Ten
  1. Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is an American pop and pop‑rock band formed in Los Angeles, California. The group originally came together in 1994 under the name Kara's Flowers, when Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick were still in high school. They self‑released a demo and a studio album before... read more

They had a decent start, but it didn't take long for Adam Levine to prioritize commercial profit over artistic integrity. They became one of the most overplayed artists of the 2010s.

Adam Levine's voice has also gotten more shrill and annoying over the years. I'm not sure how, but he doesn't sound even halfway as decent as he used to.

  2. Mötley Crüe

Mötley Crüe is an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, along with lead vocalist Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars. They are known for their hedonistic lifestyle and iconic albums such as Dr... read more

While I'm not the biggest fan of hair metal to begin with, you could tell they had some talent during their prime in the '80s. However, over time, this began to decline as Vince Neil's vocals worsened and their music became more generic.

I would've been fine with them stopping after Saints of Los Angeles, but the fact that they're still making singles and touring is something else.

  3. Linkin Park

Linkin Park is an American alternative rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The current members include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ), Emily Armstrong (vocals), and Colin Brittain (drums). Linkin Park... read more

  4. AC/DC

AC/DC is an Australian hard rock band founded in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Bon Scott was the lead singer until his death in 1980 from alcohol poisoning. He was succeeded by Brian Johnson.

The band is known for its blues-influenced rock sound and enduring hits such as Highway... read more

  5. Metallica

Metallica is an American heavy and thrash metal band formed in 1981. The original lineup included James Hetfield (vocals and rhythm guitar), Dave Mustaine (lead guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), and Ron McGovney (bass). They first gained mainstream fame with their 1991 self-titled album (The Black Album... read more

  6. Puddle of Mudd

Puddle of Mudd is an American post-grunge band that was formed in 1991 in Kansas City, Missouri. The band has sold over seven million albums and is widely recognized for their hit song "Blurry," which topped multiple rock charts. They have released seven major studio albums, with the most recent being... read more

I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, but at least their first two albums were solid enough attempts. You could tell they were at least trying.

After that, though, it was one colossal disaster after another. Wes Scantlin seems creatively spent, and his vocal cords are beyond damaged. This was illustrated in both that awful About a Girl cover and their newest albums.

  7. Green Day

Green Day are an American pop punk and punk rock band formed in East Bay, California, in 1987. The core members are Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), and Tré Cool (drums), with Jason White often performing live on guitar. They blend punk rock, pop punk, and alternative rock, drawing... read more

Father of All was given a 0/10 by Anthony Fantano, and that says a lot.

  8. Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi is a hard rock and pop rock band formed in 1983. The original lineup consisted of lead vocalist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora (who left in 2013), bassist Alec John Such (who left in 1994), keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres.... read more

Once upon a time, Jon Bon Jovi and his band were a major staple in the rock world, selling out arenas and writing some pretty catchy but repetitive hard rock in the 1980s.

Nowadays, they're a washed-up nostalgia act, and Jovi himself sounds strained and completely off. At this point, you have to question why they're still touring and making music when their prime has long passed.

His voice is not there anymore, and just like Maroon 5, they're trying to fit in with the outdated mainstream crap.

  9. Theory of a Deadman

Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian post-grunge band. Formed in 2001, the band is currently signed to Roadrunner Records as well as 604 Records. They were discovered by Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger. Theory of a Deadman has gone on to release eight studio albums. Their most well-known songs include... read more

Say what you will about Nickelback, but Chad Kroeger has more talent in his pinky finger than Tyler Connolly does.

After two decent enough first albums and a serviceable third album, this band's decline became increasingly noticeable. By the 2010s, they were writing some of the worst rock songs of all time, and their wannabe Imagine Dragons era was also insufferable.

Tyler had an okay voice on the debut, but you can tell that his voice has gotten a lot duller since.

  10. Train

Train is an American roots rock band from San Francisco that was formed in 1993. The current lineup includes lead vocalist Patrick Monahan, guitarist Jimmy Stafford, keyboardist Jerry Becker, guitarist Luis Maldonado, bassist Hector Maldonado, drummer Drew Shoals, and backing vocalists Nikita Houston... read more

This band has some of the oddest lyrical choices of all time and a singer who keeps sounding worse over time.

If given the choice to listen to Hey, Soul Sister or a Limp Bizkit song, I'll always take the Limp Bizkit song because at least they don't take themselves too seriously.

Also, they made one of the worst cover albums of all time with their Led Zeppelin tribute. Why do they still exist, aside from the fact that they want money?

They were never good. You thought that "Hey, Soul Sister" was bad? Their newest songs are worse.

  11. The Newcomers

    Nickelback

Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist, and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.... read more

Chad Kroeger has one of the worst voices in rock or music history. Why didn't he realize that from the start?

  13. ?

    Bowling for Soup

Bowling for Soup is an American rock band originally formed in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1994. The band currently consists of Jaret Reddick, Rob Felicetti, and Gary Wiseman. They are best known for their hit songs "1985", "Girl All the Bad Guys Want", "High School Never Ends", "Emily", "The Bh Song",... read more

They released their first album, 30 Seconds to Mars, in 2002. It was a self-titled album with... read more

Similar to Maroon 5, Thirty Seconds to Mars was once a legitimate band with a good sound and impressive vocal star power from Jared Leto.

After their third album, however, they became more and more dull. They're another band channeling Imagine Dragons and making some of the most boring pop music known to man.

  16. Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Provo, Utah, now based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band's lineup includes lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and touring drummer Andrew Tolman.... read more

If their drummer left, why can't they just disband as a whole?

  17. Coldplay

Coldplay is a British rock band formed in 1996. The group includes Chris Martin (lead vocals, piano), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Guy Berryman (bass), and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals). Their manager, Phil Harvey, is often referred to as the unofficial fifth member.... read more

If they said they would disband after releasing 12 albums, then why are they still together in 2025 when they still have two more albums left to release?

Coldplay announced that they would disband in 2025, but I think they should have disbanded in 2016 before collaborating with The Chainsmokers, who are terrible.

  18. Simple Plan

Simple Plan is a Canadian pop rock and pop punk band formed in Montreal, Quebec in 1999. The band consists of Pierre Bouvier, Chuck Comeau, Jeff Stinco, and Sébastien Lefebvre. They have released six studio albums, including Harder Than It Looks in 2022.

Lewis Capaldi was inspired by them, and that says a lot.

  19. Disturbed

Disturbed is an American alternative metal, nu-metal, and hard rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The band consists of vocalist David Draiman, bassist John Moyer, guitarist Dan Donegan, and drummer Mike Wengren.

Their cover of The Sound of Silence was trash.

  20. The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass), and Charlie Watts (drums).... read more

Nothing against their fans, but their newer music is honestly some of the most generic and dull material I've ever heard.

They're another nostalgia act that honestly should've retired decades ago. They seem creatively bankrupt and devoid of interesting ideas. They've got nothing left to say.

  21. System of a Down

System of a Down, formed in 1994, is an Armenian-American alternative metal band from Glendale, California. The band name is sometimes shortened to System or SOAD. They're known for their politically charged lyrics, often addressing topics such as genocide and war, in songs like Holy Mountains, Prison... read more

I'm being generous here and putting them at 10, but I'll elaborate on why.

First and foremost, I highly doubt a new album is coming anytime soon. Genocidal Humanoidz and Protect the Land are good songs, but Daron and Serj aren't going to agree on anything. I think it would help the band to throw in the towel at this point.

Daron Malakian himself seems disinterested in the idea of a sixth album, so the odds of another Scars on Broadway album seem higher.

  22. My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from Newark, New Jersey, formed in 2001. The lineup since 2019 includes lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Jarrod Alexander. Bob Bryar was the drummer from 2004 to 2010. The band has released critically... read more
