Rush was a Canadian progressive rock band that was formed in 1968. The band has had an iconic lineup since 1975, which included Neil Peart (Drums, Percussion), Geddy Lee (Vocals, Bass, Keyboards), and the guitarist, Alex Lifeson. Peart passed away after a 3 year battle with brain cancer in January of 2020. Because of this, Lee says there are no plans to keep the band going, so Rush is most likely defunct.
The band has become one of the most well-known progressive rock bands in the world, with such albums as "2112", "Hemispheres" and "Moving Pictures". More than half of their albums have gone gold or platinum, as certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America).
You see, it's a late night for me, and I'm surfing the web. I click "Best Progressive Rock Bands Of All Time" and ok, Pink Floyd was 1st. But right after them, the actual best progressive rock band of all time.
And so, I scroll down to look for other lists, and apparently every single list that includes "Best" in its title has the rush logo. They have a huge fanbase. For a good reason. Good bands should have massive fanbases. And this one made "good" bad.
Best band ever in my opinion. There are a lot of great bands around for a period time. RUSH is a part of my life since 1976 and will be till I die, I think.
It is amazing that how different every album is from previous albums, music from RUSH always touches me. Makes me happy, sometimes a few tears. Always emotion. Great musicianship, nice guys, great fans! Made a few friends for life through RUSH. Thanks for that as well!
They kept putting out a much different but still impressive album over the decades. The bottom line is the "art for art's sake" concept and also honing their musical skills in order to make it come alive.
&&&& Also a lot of people including me were looking for someone to take on the subject matter that no one seemed to dare to take on. But here you got Peart doing it with the greatest of finesse. This is what makes them the ultimate counterstereotype of rock and roll.
To everyone who says Rush is not worthy of its loyal fan base, I have just two words to say to them: "Neil Peart". If this guy isn't a Rock n Roll god then there is no Heaven and the earth is indeed flat. Not only is he probably the best ever rock drummer, he also wrote or co-wrote most of Rush's songs and lyrics. Adding Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson to the mix is just pure icing on a huge and ever increasing cake. It's a marriage made in heaven - we love them and they love us. Good guys DO finish first!
