Best Male Frontmen

There will never be another Rock & Roll Singer/ Songwriter/ Musician/ Showman plus 24-7 (Larger than Life) Personality ever again like Freddie Mercury. He was a once in a lifetime combination of Talent, Energy, Drive, Self Confidence & Self Doubt all rolled into one Extra Ordinary Man, who had the inigmatic ability (through his Music) to use his Musical Genius to touch the world with the introspection of the Contradictions that WERE Freddie Mercury. He was like a Shooting Star, who's lifespan is cut short by the sheer force of his journey. He was a Soul never to be repeated & the world is a lesser place without him!
Freddie Mercury was a remarkable phaenomenon. He sang in various octaves using all his effort. He had a falsetto which could make a deaf person able to hear again. He performed in a unique way using all possible space on stage, making crowds of thousands attendants staring at him for hours. He gained the fans with his personality and despite the fact that he was homosexual he lead a rock band (a classic str8 dream) in such a success that never ever found in other "str8" frontmen. And that says a lot about who deserves the title.
The greatest frontman who has walked the Earth, period. Being a prolific songwriter who was not scared to explore different music genres, Freddie Mercury just stands higher on the latter than anyone else. His feats include singing with opera diva, Moncerat Caballe, for which he wrote a full opera album! As if this wasn't enough, Freddie sang both Moncerat's and his parts in the songs and then sent them to her for approval... Mercury's stage presence was second to none, which was officially recognized and documented in history after Queen's performance on the '85 Live Aid. His ability to command a crowd have been compared to that of the late Nazzi leader, Adolf Hitler, but in a positive way! Some of the most memorable songs Freddie wrote include Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are The Champions - both having been voted best song ever written in various polls. Even though Mercury passed in 1999, his music keeps inspiring new generations of fans and musicians to this day - a true testament to ...more
Why is this guy not at the top? He had more stage presence in one hair of his iconic moustache than Jon and the rest of Bon Jovi has combined (and I happen to like Bon Jovi)! His voice and the way it just blended with the instruments of the other band members, the songwriting, the stage theatrics... it all combined to make one heck of a frontman. If you need proof that he's better than Gackt (and I like him/Malice Mizer too) and Jon Bon Jovi, watch Queen's performance at Live Aid.

When he was with Zeppelin he had it all, his stage presence was incredible, his voice so unique and so dam sexy. Robert and Jimmy had this 6th sense thing going on, hell the whole band did, they would stretch a song to 20 minutes with melodies and all meet back to the original song at the same time, it was awesome to watch, nobody did that. Robert Plant knows how to capture the audience like no other and his music since Zep has been awesome. Number 1 frontman.
There's no way Freddie outdoes Robert. Robert Plant is such a spectacle to watch live, his motions work with the dynamic of the song, and even when he isn't moving he has such a stage presence. Not to mention he's such a great singer. Freddie always sounded so bouncy and flamboyant and never quite reached the level of intensity of emotion that Robert could reach, even in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Robert is definitely the best frontman of all time. With his beautiful, unique voice, his charisma and his undeniable ability to put on a wonderful show and interpret the Led Zeppelin songs with such passion that you would think he's singing them for the very first time, he is truly a ROCK GOD.
He is definitelly the best rock frontman to ever walk the Earth! His mind-blowing voice has no equals, as well as his amazing style of performing and his unearthly beauty... He's my ideal and number 1 for EVER!

Jagger is the frontman that trancsends culture - his influence still electrifys and is at the core of music now (musically, stage-craft-wise, vocally and fashion-wise too). Without Jagger's inspiration we wouldn't have so many of the names on this list. He is also one of the greatest songwriters ever, to top it all off (while music is subjective this is mostly considered fact now).
On another note how isn't James Brown on this list?
Yes! Definitely! Mick was very fit! He was also a very good singer! I think the Maroon 5 song is bias and a lie! Adam Levine says he can move like Jagger! Ha! I'd like to see that! Let's face it, the only one who moves like Jagger is Mick Jagger himself!
I think Jagger should be number 1. I know others wouldn't agree because some prefer Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, James Brown etc and that's understandable. But Mick is still surely top 5 in that scenario. But Jared Leto? Come on people!
Who even is he?
Mick Jagger was incredible! And the reason James Brown isn't on here, is because it's called Best FRONTMEN! Lead singer of a band! James was a solo artist

Agreed! Hetfield should be number one! He is a Legend of thrash unlike anyone else on the list... Except freddie to a legend.. But anyway
How is he 8? And behind all these people? Like who is the number one? And bon jovi sucks! And people vote jackson, why? Right he died! If he didn't he wouldn't be in that spot, or in the top ten.
Hetfield is number 6 and some Lauri Ylonen is in front of him? That's insane. James should be number One. Okay, maybe number Two behind Freddie. But that's that. And besides, Freddie was (mainly) only a singer. James is a awesome guitarist!
He sings like a beast! but also he is the best rhythm guitarist in the whole world! Not too many people can do that, and nobody can do that as good as Jamie! Metallica is one of the best bands in history thanks to him.
Why isn't James #1? He has the loudest strongest metal voice out of anyone(listen to... And Justice for all). He can do soft rock like its what he's been doing for ever(listen to nothing else matters). And he can do all this while doing some off the Fastest and greatest rifts know to any man.

I just don't understand how it is even possible that Bruce Dickinson, James Hetfield and Axl Rose are behind Michael Jackson.
Has one of the greatest and most powerful voices in rock n' roll history, and he still has it even in his later years.
Agreed. This list is bogus. It;s all about popularity. Saw him live, he was jumpin all over the place. Put on a truly awesome show
His energy on stage is unmatched.

because it is an excellent songwriter and singer! has one of the most privileged voices and talent fills the air. He has lent his voice to other groups successfully and even composed for a movie. One of the personalities who earns more money in Finland and that has contributed most to the Finnish econimia. Definitely deserves this job!
I love him! He is the best! I like so much his voice, I am waiting for the new album of The Rasmus, which will be surely amazing. I love THE RASMUS!
We did it! He wins 'cause he deserves it...
THE RASMUS is a flawless band, every member is awesome, and Lauri is the best singer of all time
Oh, this is such a guilty indulgence. I love this man to bits. I promise I'll go fangirl somewhere else now.

You'd think it would be hard to get noticed on stage when the lead guitarist is doing windmills, destroying his guitar and dancing around, while the drummer is an animal and the bassist is commanding bass notes like they are pitbulls.
But Roger's voice, swinging microphone and presence don't lead us forget he's the front man.
How the hell is this man ranked so low? I cannot believe many of the names ahead of him.
Roger was the first 'proper' rock frontman, along with Mick Jagger. Fellow great frontmen like Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury were influenced by him (Plant especially).
What puts Roger above the lot of them, for me, is how he shared the stage with two legendary rock showmen with massive stage presence in Pete Townshend and Keith Moon.
The likes of Jagger, Plant and Mercury never had such fearsome competition from within their own bands for attention on stage. Roger did. And he more often than not won.
Roger pioneered the appearance of the frontman. Without him, greats such as Robert Plant and Jim Morrison wouldn't have had the blueprints for their stage act. Today at 72, he still performs as extravagantly and athletically as he did back in the 60's and 70's. With his bare chest and golden hair, accompanied by a tambourine and the brutal swinging of a microphone that he sings into with his powerful voice, he countinues to put the audience in a state of awe and excitement.
Are you kidding me? Almost every single other person above Daltrey wouldn't even be around if Daltrey, Jagger, and Plant hadn't co invented the rock god persona. They all deserve top 10 spots. Daltrey this low is a crime

Most influential and he's legendary because of his controversy and music. Though his music isn't the hardest, they were hard in their time and was nevertheless great. He's awesome and he did point out several things that changed rock history forever: legends come to an end and rock is about sex and drugs. I believe all rock stars got the idea about sex, drugs and rock and roll from Jim Morrison, being among the first. He's got a wild personality and a great singing voice. He could also come up with the best lyrics and meanings to songs. He's a legend!
The original bad boy of rock and roll. Jagger changed his whole persona after seeing Morrison. I remember the Stones on Ed Sullivan in their little sailor suits. This is where Jagger didn't have the balls to sing the original lyrics to a Rolling Stones song. "Let's spend some time together? " That was great Mick.
Should be #1. Without Jim Morrison and his perfectly crafted persona there would be no long haired, leather pant wearing, demon screaming rock star image. No Robert Plant, No David Lee Roth, No Axl Rose, No rockstar frontman. Totally, exclusively created everything there was or needed to be in a rock star archetype. Rock and Roll Shaman.
The original. Often copied, never equalled. As far as frontmen go, there's before Jim Morrison and after Jim Morrison. Nothing contrived here. Jim Morrison had lots of fire in his soul and was the first not affraid to show it. As a vocalist he set the tone too with his bestial screams from deep within the soul. Game changer.

Kurt Cobain had something that so many others try to imitate. As I type this he is placed at #18, but will always be #1 to me. Love you forever Kurt xo
R.I. p mr cobain grunge will live forever we all miss you and we know your watching dave from heaven
Curt Cobain was and still is awesome, an icon & legend of the music world. He deserves to be placed higher on this list
Kurt Cobain was such a talented frontman and person in general so how come he's at rank 17? He put on amazing shows which often involved the smashing of guitars at the end. Rest In Peace My Angel, You are Sorely Missed :'(

Axl Rose is the frontman of the most dangerous band in the world. He sings, plays piano, rant about what is happening in his life, he controls the audience to see if there is somebody that will get hurt. Many people think that he is dumb, but they are just hypocrites unlike Axl who is very real in his action and words. He didn't fake any single thing that he did.
There are better frontmen than him. But he needs to go up. That's why I vote for him Laurie Yolnem I can't even spell his name, Jared Leto Villie Valo. Who are they. Shut up. Axl rose should be 5.
1. Freddie Mercury
2. Robert Plant
3. Mick Jagger
4. Kurt Cobain
5. Axl Rose
6. Bruce Dickinson
7. Ozzy Osbourne
8. Jim Morrison
9. James Hetfield
10. John Lennon And Paul McCartney
This has to be a joke. Axl is at least in the top 5 best frontman. His stage presence is incredible and he's got a one of a kind vocal range and voice that no one can imitate but himself. The fact that he's not even in the top 10 infuriates me
The best hard rock band guns n roses is lead by an awesome front man Axl Rose. He's just so awesome.
The list should be:
1.Freddie Mercury
2.Robert plant
3.Mick Jagger
4.Bruce Dickinson
5.Axl Rose
6.Steven Tyler
7.Jim Morrison
8.Roger Daltrey
9.Kurt Cobain
10.James Hetfield

He was extremely charismatic. He wasn't the greatest singer, but could captivate an audience. I will give a nod to Freddie Mercury and Paul Stanley. But both Paul and Freddie were better singers than Diamond Dave. With low vocal ability Dave could captivate an audience like the other two could not have done without the voices.
One of the greatest frontmen and entertainers of all time, no one can do a show as 'Diamond' David Lee Roth! Split leaps, kicks, and his one and only voice is what a real Heavy metal frontman is made of! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the originall, the one and only: David Lee Roth!
I was going to vote for Freddie Mercury, but when I saw David Lee Roth at number 23, I had no choice. He had everything needed to be an exceptional frontman. Why so low? Let's get him in the top ten please, where he rightfully belongs.
David Lee Roth got the crowd going evertime he put on a live show doing high flying ariel spin kicks doing and split leap off the drum stage.
This man is legendary when it comes to performance live.

Beautiful man, beautiful singer/songwriter and the man is intelligent which is very refreshing in a lead singer of a band. He knows what he wants and wont compromise on his standards. VERY underestimated songwriter, his songs can bring me to tears, make me scream and smile, and his music is the only thing that gets me through the day at times when I need something that will bring me out of my depths of despair cause he has been there too, its like he senses what us fans feel too. Hey I could go on forever praising this wonderful man, but unless you listen to him and HIM yourself you will never understand what I'm talking about... In our eyes he is NUMBER ONE!
Ville Valo is witty, charismatic and just someone who you can relate to on one level or another. He bears his heart and feelings in his music and lyrics and allows you to peer into the deep ends of his soul in the songs. His voice is magnificent in the range that it can cover, and he is a rare talent that you get very very rarely specially in these times.
Ville Valo's ability to be the best at everything that the lead singer and songwriter should be he can provoke the emotion of the song with his gestures and mannerisms on stage and in music videos. Ville's vocal range is also one of his many talents he mainly is a baritone singer but he can hit high notes as well which is an amazing feat to accomplice.
He's got one of the most beautiful voices ever. He can sing low, he can sing high... It's almost unbelieveable that one inconspicuous finnish man can make sounds like that. Oh, and I forgot to mention that his music's saved my life once! So, yeah, he's the best for me since I was only 8 year old and he'll stay the best in my eyes forever.

Tom's one of the best nowadays Frontmen! For me he's unique! He's a brilliant singer, with such a powerful and stunning vocal range. His Live performances are awesome and magical, his voice sounds exactly as on the records, perhaps even more amazing, as he sings with so much passion and gives his all heart & soul on stage. He's genuine and so very sincere, doesn't hide any emotion and creates with the crowd such an unique bond of complicity and also something even more rare, I believe - a bond of love! Not forgetting that he can sing with the same flawlessness an energetic rock tune or a heavenly ballad - his voice comes directly from heaven, for sure!
Tom is an extraordinary talent. His vocal control with regard to intonation and phrasing is remarkable at minimum. Tom is able to take on not only the repertoire of his own ensemble and elevate it to the level of high art, but he has proven that the is able to do this with the band's covers of a number of other standards in the rock repertoire, such as U2s "With or Without You, " a cover that transcends even Bono's original. His vocal range is rare for any frontman, and the clarity of his vocal timbre is unheard of, particularly in his upper tessitura. Certainly, he is the best frontman of our time.
Tom's voice is one of the most beautiful, pure and powerful I've ever heard. He is able to brilliantly sing all kinds of songs, to reach the hardes notes, to sound even better live that on records, which is TRULY something nowadays, and to sing for a whole room without even needing a microphone. As if that wasn't enough, he has an incredible stage presence and an amazing way of really connecting with the crowd and of making you feel that you are an important part of the moment.
The greatest voice in the music industry at the moment, in large stadiums or on small acoustic sets it draws you into the very heart of the song and makes that song special just for you, and you can also make out the words which isn't always the case for many singers! His stage presence is fantastic, taking control of the stage without taking away from the other band members, it always shows that they are a team.

Easily #1. The greatest frontman of all time. Powerful, fun, humble and a great guy. Talk about a great lyricist? Listen to Powerage.
What is this? Come on he should be number one. He can front a band better then anyone that has ever been born. He could sing and write like a god, he is god. Just like the other guy wrote, Bon is the reason why I love rock. Salute
He gave 100% - 100% of the time!
If he had lived, can you imagine? Too bad these ratings are nothing more than an opinion, because he really did give his performances everything he had making him the best front man of all time! This confirmed even by other Rock n Roll artists!
(And if they're not Rock?! ---Who cares what they say! )
He was also a good guy, just see what his wife and people who knew him say about him.
Bon Scott is the best frontman, he had a great voice, he brought plenty of energy, and he put on a show. Some of these singers just stand there at the microphone and shake their ass.

Should be at number one, this is absolutely ridiculous, jared leto? Whats with the obsession of him? Jonathan davis? Influential on metal but not for his stage presence, at 64 steven tyler is still enertaining crowds, look at videos of him in the 80's and he was in his late 30's early 40's, without him there is no axl rose or energetic glam frontmen, he knows how to enertain a crowd, plus aerosmith is amazing, so stoked to see them on tour this summer
One voice and crazy ass flips and jumps on stage that will never be forgotten!
He is the king, his voice is from heaven. He should be at least in top 3.

It is really strange that people I have never heard of are ahead of this legend and his awesome band. Will people 500 years from now remember Tom Chaplin and Villegas Valo? Bono is arguably number one. Top five is indisputable.
He is awesome, not only does he have a great voice but also he has done loads of work regarding Africa and peace in Ireland.
Epicness pervades his every character, from his voice to his stage presence.
17?! Are you kidding me? Definitely top 5 all time. No doubt.

He deserves the first place!
If you have ever seen one of their concerts you now what I'm talking about.
He is inspiration for many echelons around the world, not only him also Tomo and Shannon.
And his voice? Well just two words can describe it pure perfection same kind of voice on the records an in concerts.. He just deserves to win because he does there is no other way
He is insanely talented you have no idea what this man is capable of. He cares about the echelon an the environment, animals, less-fortunate people. He is more than just a pretty face.
One amazingly talented individual. He seriously has no competition with these others. His vibe, energy and overall compassion for music is flawless.
I love him!
Nobody is better then him!
Love him forever
I love his songs for example Kings and Queens, Closer to the edge, This is war, From yesterday.

Steve Perry is the most amazing singer I have ever heard, and he is responsible for co-writing many timeless hits. Journey is well known for their long and strenuous tours. Perry was able to not only sing every night, but each night he reached heights which most singers can only dream of. Along with his seemingly endless range, Steve Perry was capable of singing with such emotion so as to give life to each song. He raised the bar for live performances, singing each song with near perfection, and usually better than the studio versions. To not appreciate what Perry has done is a sad thing.
I have been a huge fan of Journey for so many years and I don't think Steve is appreciated enough. He will always be my favorite singer and his voice is second to none.
Ok I am going to say right now, any spot other than top 3 is a plain insult to this guy. There are few frontman that have ever lived that had as much vocal range as Perry. The guy was an amazing vocalist to say the least.
Stellar vocals and so sexy! He can kill any song.

He is a legend, and in my opinion should be much higher. We are always going to have people like Freddie Mercury, Axl Rose, Mick Jagger, Kurt Cobain, etc. above him, but in the end Ozzy is a straight up legend.
Number 15? Have you seen this guy? Sure Freddie, Mick, and Robert will always be the top three frontmen, but have you seriously seen this guy? He is a very, interesting frontman that needs to be higher up
Ozzy is arguabley the greatest and Eddie Vedder, chester from linkin park, sting, and jon bon jovi are ahead of him? Ugh that makes my stomach hurt knowing theres people who believe that
Shoots water guns and throws water guns on the crowd, treats the stage as the gym, and to top it off bites the head off of animals

I love Corey Taylor! Slipknot Stonesour. Two hit bands at the same time. Talk about not wasting your talent. He busts his ASS to make his music. One of the front men of all time.

He is the best.. He is unique and has got own style.. His voice is like legendry and he puts his 100% in every stage performance..
Chester is simply amazing in all ways! His voice is a true reflection of this...Rock on!
Theres no competing with Chester's screaming and singing, truly the best.
Should be above that overrated Jared Leto...

Jon is the best frontman ever! He rocks the stadium with 70.000 fans and all have a great party. And he make that you think he is singing only for you. He is amazing!
When you think of lead singers, Jon Bon Jovi "Always" comes to mind. Don't hate my opinions because "It's my Life".
Jon has it all.He is a true talent. I have followed this incredible man since 1983.I have seen him perform live twice his performances are spectacular. I have tremendous respect for the man.He just has so much drive and faith.Keep rocking Jon!
He is the best frontman ever. Jon knows the best how to entertain the audience and put on an excellent show.

The best child/male frontman ever.. all because when you see him with his band called the jackson 5, it always send you smiling with fascination and adoration... all because he is so young and so cute but he can pull up a voice that's so far from his age, he dances like an expert even at 7... he can already groove like that of James Brown's and many other influences by just merely looking and observing them plus with an age not more than 10
His voice is just unique and make me feel loved when I was alone. Many people don't understand him and judge because they believe everything they read in magazines. He was an amazing artist and person, and also have a really special place in my heart
I'll never forget you Mike
Michael Jackson... oh ya... The best frontman... he knew how to get a crowd interested in what he had to offer... his sex appeal, his genuine love for the stage and giving his 100 effort in every show. He was a leader and a genius showman for sure... RIP love xo him forever
I was going to vote for Ville Valo (HIM) because his voice is so unique, amazing and awesome but Michael Jackson is my life long idol and I love him to pieces!

Morten is the best male voice on earth, he deserves the first place. He gives wings to a song. Let one of the vocalist in the list here sing an a-ha song, maybe "Summer Moved On" or "Hunting High And Low", I'm sure they all will fail. A-ha songs are so difficult and complicated to sing and Morten is so perfect in giving this songs a soul
He was, is and will always be the number 1. He is the best male voice on earth. Freddie Mercury and Morten should be number 1 in this list because both have an amazing vocal range and so much emotion in their voices. By the way, Morten is also the most beautiful men/singer.
The best front man in the history of Rock. This guy has the look, the confidence, creativity and most important of all the voice.
Morten is a great entertainer his beautiful voice not only blows you away it touches you deeply and is purely captivating. Number 1 without a doubt

Come on how is fred durst ahead of this man? Halford has more talent in his pinky than durst has in his entire body!
Halford is the man!
