Top 10 Best Power Metal Albums
Power metal does not do subtle. It grabs you by the collar with soaring vocals, racing riffs, giant choruses, and enough heroic flair to make your daily commute feel like the opening scene of a fantasy war. When you love this style, you are not just hearing songs, you are chasing that rush that hits when melody, speed, and drama all lock together.
The best albums give you more than volume and double bass. They pull you into grand stories, sharpen every hook to a blade's edge, and leave you wanting one more track even after the grand finale crashes down.

Nightfall in Middle-Earth - Blind Guardian
My favorites are, in no particular order:
Nightfall in Middle-Earth by Blind Guardian
Land of the Free by Gamma Ray
Sonic Firestorm by DragonForce
Virus by Heavenly (not really sure if that's progressive or power, though)
-
Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part II - Helloween
I think it is the best metal album from here to eternity!
Best power metal album. Nice vocals by Kiske.
-
Horror Show - Iced Earth
This is my second-favorite power metal album and my favorite Iced Earth album. Wolf, Damien, Dracula, Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, and Phantom of the Opera Ghost are awesome.
-
Somewhere Far Beyond - Blind Guardian
-
Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I - Helloween
I love the second part, but the first one is pure gold. It needs to be number one.
Great album. Master Kiske in best form.
More serious than Part II.
-
Land of the Free - Gamma Ray
-
A Night at the Opera - Blind Guardian
-
The Black Halo - Kamelot
This album, combined with its predecessor, Epica, is an awesome journey in an epic modern tale resembling Goethe's Faust.
-
Walls of Jericho - Helloween
Maybe the best album of all time. It really deserves #1.
Thank you, Helloween, and thank you, god of power metal, Kai Hansen.
The quintessential power metal album. Victim of Fate has absolutely amazing guitar work.
-
Wintersun - Wintersun
Inspirational.

Theater of Salvation - Edguy
I'm not a power metal fanatic, but out of all the albums that I had listened to from the genre, this one stood out by quite a margin. The overall feel of the music is very dreamy, mainly on the title track, but there is also balanced aggression on thrashy songs like Babylon and The Unbeliever. The album also features some exquisite keyboard passages. The stuff here is varied, and I can't recommend it enough.

Plagues of Babylon - Iced Earth
-
The Metal Opera - Avantasia
A masterpiece by one of the greatest power metal projects. Farewell is beautiful.
-
Burnt Offerings - Iced Earth
-
Ecliptica - Sonata Arctica
Every single song on this album is fantastic! The vocals are top notch. The guitar solos are well made, and the drumming is epic! Some of the songs on this album are remakes of demos they worked on for many years, and the effort invested matches the product.
My favorite power metal album without question.
Best album by Sonata Arctica.
-
Oceanborn - Nightwish
-
As the World Bleeds - Theocracy
-
Sonic Firestorm - DragonForce
-
Something Wicked This Way Comes - Iced Earth
-
Anima Mundi - Dionysus
-
Mandrake - Edguy
-
Beyond the Red Mirror - Blind Guardian
-
Demons & Wizards - Demons & Wizards
-
Imaginations from the Other Side - Blind Guardian
Why is this amazing album so far below the likes of A Night at the Opera and At the Edge of Time? Both of those albums are among the worst albums in Blind Guardian's catalogue.
I'm surprised this is so low on the list. In my opinion, this is the best of BG's albums, definitely the most balanced. Literally every track on here is good.
Why is this album so low on this list?

Temple of Shadows - Angra
-
The Scarecrow - Avantasia
-
Dawn of Victory - Rhapsody
