Top 10 Most Bipolar Songs

A lot of songs use metaphors, and my list highlights some of the best songs that can be interpreted as addressing bipolar disorder. These include songs that shift in mood or lyrics, transitioning from happy to sad, much like the emotional swings experienced by individuals with the disorder.

The Top Ten
  1. Liar - Rollins Band

This song is the poster child for bipolar in music. Rollins goes back and forth between being nice and evil, ultimately lying through his teeth without really knowing why. At the end, his mood changes, and he repeatedly says he will never lie to this person again, only to reveal he was lying the whole time. This is bipolar at its greatest.

  2. Lithium - Nirvana

The title explains it all. Lithium is one of the drugs prescribed to bipolar patients. It is well documented that Cobain went through many struggles, some of which are related to bipolar disorder.

  3. I Hate Everything About You - Three Days Grace

This song is the perfect bipolar song because the singer oscillates between I hate you and I still love you. With bipolar disorder, one minute you are happy and can change in a matter of seconds to very disgruntled.

This song describes how I feel about my bipolar 1 as well as how it makes me feel, particularly my mania.

This is one of my most played songs on my Spotify playlist. I absolutely love it, and I think it is very relatable.

  4. Perfect Insanity - Disturbed

In this song, the person is going insane but is happy about it. Insanity can sometimes be confused with bipolar disorder, especially if untreated.

  5. Secrets - Mary Lambert

At the beginning of the song, she says she has bipolar disorder, and the rest of the song she is declaring that she doesn't care if everyone knows her secrets.

  6. Kim - Eminem

Everyone knows the love/hate relationship between Eminem and Kim, but Eminem's feelings for her are always fluctuating, similar to bipolar disorder. In this song, he kills her but still wants her.

  7. Je$u$ Cri$i$ - Marilyn Manson

  8. Puppe - Rammstein

  9. Sober - Tool

The singer is struggling to stay sober and wishes he could quit but can't, and the addiction is screwing up his life. Substance abuse can be linked to bipolar disorder.

  10. Supremacy - Muse

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

Sugar - System of a Down

  13. ?

Mr. Jack - System of a Down

  14. The Contenders
  15. Battle Cry - Imagine Dragons

  16. A Place in the Dirt - Marilyn Manson

  17. Black Clouds - Papa Roach

This is a great song about bipolar disorder and one of my favorites, with "Black Clouds" being a metaphor for mental illness. Here's a sample of the lyrics:

    "My emotions are storming

And tears fall just like rain.

    Pain strikes like lightning.

    Despair is becoming my friend."

  18. The Reflecting God - Marilyn Manson

  19. One of My Turns - Pink Floyd

  20. My Hell - Oomph!

  21. Bad Day - Fuel

The person in the song is in a relationship with a girl who has a lot of highs and lows, and she is experiencing another bad day. She leaves a note explaining the situation. Bipolar patients have lots of highs and lows.

  22. Hurt - Johnny Cash

This is a very emotional song from Cash, which is a cover of Nine Inch Nails. Cash's version is very raw and explains a person who has gone through life hurting themselves and others, not because he wants to, but because he suffers from something he's not sure about.

I think a lot of people (other than bipolar sufferers) can relate to this song.

  23. King - XXXTENTACION

  24. Wiener Blut - Rammstein

  25. Humanity - Scorpions

  26. Becoming Insane - Infected Mushroom

A song about the process of entering into a manic state.

  27. Jerk It Out - Caesars

  28. Klavier - Rammstein

  29. Path of Glory - Demons & Wizards
